middle of a pandemic right now so very limited experiences
Graphic Design and Illustration course is led by tutors who are heavily biased and bully students that they dislike. It creates a course culture of enabling bad behaviour, and no one is ever held to account for harassment. The tutors pick one or two students whose work they like, and put all the time and opportunities into those few who fit their house style. God forbid you produce work slightly different to those around you; prepare for the tutors to try and make you fit their mould and produce work exactly like everyone else. Poor, poor mental health care from the uni as a result. Avoid.
All in all a very good university and depending on which department you are placed in the staff are extremely friendly and helpful
Tried to get comms over postragrd courses, no reply or acknowldgement and sent the following complaint by email: Dear DMU, I have to say I am quite appalled at the lack of communication despite filling in several eforms, email correspondence and even an application for postgraduate study. I have had no feedback at all, and the postgrad open day is today. Just give me reasons why I should even contemplate study with you now, if this is the poor standard set? Kind regards
Great campus vibe with loads of study areas as well as areas to socialise. Inclusive atmosphere and lecturers and other members of staff are kind and helpful.
Nice place! Lectures are great and lots of support.
como serán las cases de la universidad durante el primer semestre
DMU is a very diverse university, ranging from the subjects taught to the people on campus - I've interacted with a lot of people on campus ranging from various walks of life to technical strengths and all of them have one thing in common; doing the absolute best they can in their studies and personal time. All of my lecturers are superb at what they teach and will almost move heaven and earth to assist you - even if it's not directly related to your course. The campus is clean and modern, and the facilities are some of the best when comparing to other universities I've seen (such as the 24/7/365 library). Being a computing student, I found that there were a lack of societies for people like me (apart from course-related societies such as the DMU Hackers, Robotics Club etc.). Another issue I found is that the careers service isn't always great at best, but I have a feeling that this may change over time. All in all, DMU is an excellent university and I'm glad that I had picked it.
Good courses, friendly staff. Amazing societies everyone was friendly. The library has great facilities as well as learning services which are really helpful
I made an enquiry CIPD (level 7) accredited Master’s program in late 2019. Last date of application was May 2020. Due to Covid related over-occupation, I dropped the idea of taking a course this year. One fine day, DMU franchisee contacted me and insisted I submit a late application if I'm still interested. I asked them a lot of pre-application questions, including the expected travel in 2nd Semester/Q1 of 2020. We had 6-7 email exchanges and they also called 2-3 times. I felt very motivated, changed my mind and I submitted a late application. Till date my application has not been replied, despite reminders. Few days back I got an email with access info to DMU library, and yesterday I got invitation to a webinar - the webinar is scheduled for 29 June and invitation comes on 2 July. I'm ignoring the recent emails (it could be spam). However, I'm disappointed with the process I went through with DMU contacts for the admission.
I am doing a part time GDL here distance learning over two years. It is good value for money and the study weekends are very good. The quality of the teaching is very high as is the study materials. There are some IT problems but they worked hard to resolve them. In relation to COVID19 the university I feel has been fair to everyone allowing online assessment which I have just completed this week. Given I have health issues, my health and well being is very important. I think the university have been fair and to be honest why would you want to sue them as others have said on here because it's a Force Majeure it's not their fault. 5 Star teaching. It may not be London or hip. It may not be a crème de la crème university but they have a fab law team here.
DMU has great facilities for design courses, the building is really nice. the workshop there is too small for the size of the university though. But their lecturers are very helpful
COVID 19 handled bad by lecturers with strikes how unfortunate our fees are not valued.
everything is perfect ,tutors are very passionate and friendly
Good university with great facilities, teaching is good. Nothing was really poor. Overall happy experience.
I was apprehensive about attending DMU as it was chosen through clearing for me , however my experience at the university has been pleasant so far.
Very good uni with great support
Really good university with good facilities. Offers load of support if you need it.
I'm suing De Montfort University for selling me a Mickey Mouse postgraduate Course not accredited not recognised as a teaching qualification. Comments welcome in Twitter syaa02
Its an amazing university in every aspect! I love the campus and my lecturers.
Love De Montfort! Super cultural and always has new experiences on offer
My uni is great. Offers great teaching, services and opportunities! The teaching and studying spaces are good, too.
Amazing so far! Apart from 3 weeks of lecturer strikes that held back out learning, everything has been good
Good uni not some work still need to be done but yh
They refused to give part-refunds after the coronovirus. Selfish, frustrating and unwilling to compromise. Everyone is struggling with the virus and they're not accomodating whatsoever.
Friendly staffs and beautiful campus.
Nice campus, everything is very close and together, Also relatively close to the city centre.
The university isn’t bad it’s just the accommodation (Ben Russell) the worst!
Love my open campus with beautiful architecture.
Great university facilities at hand
University is the best. Theres so much to offer. The staff are nice and friendly.
Great uni with broad range of facilities and staff which are passionate about their work
Good university and very diverse
WiFi is a bit picky at times, sometimes doesn't work. The physical aspect of DMU is great, but it doesn't help that they keep cutting funding to courses that aren't math/science/English because, as stereotypical views go, creative courses don't bring in money, which couldn't be more wrong. Get the funding aspect right and DMU would be a great university.
Not too bad, some areas need upgrading
While I'm not able to compare this University to others, I will say it is the best possible choice I could've made by coming here. I have enjoyed almost every minute of being here and I know that if I ever come to an issue I will be able to rely on staff and students to aid me.
Great experience, friendly atmosphere, lovely campus.
I enjoy university here at dmu
Upon coming to dmu, I have enjoyed my time, especially with getting involved with the DMU Jazz Band and being part of the committee, helping run the band and being able to play music as well.
Great experience and facilities. Could have better clubs and societies
Great WiFi lecturers are very knowledgeable and helpful
DMU is an excellent university with incredible teachers and lecturers. They treat all students fairly and equally and are very helpful when you feel the stress of studying. There are plenty of study spaces and lots of communities to join. It is a bit of a pain to connect to their internet but I'm not sure if it's them or my laptop (Or that I'm just useless with computers!). Overall DMU is a great establishment and would recommend to anyone that wishes to go into higher education.
Hardly get told of any social spaces or activities available
Unorganised university which is more interested on making things look pretty rather than improving services. I have had botched assessments, been assigned the wrong modules, to name the lease.
I’m not enjoying myself at all
Pretty good uni lecturers are helpful
There's many societies to join and if you can't find what you're looking for you can create your own! The only improvement I'd make is varying the employers brought in for careers fairs as when I went most of the employers were looking for law or finance students for internships/apprenticeships which isn't great if you study something else
Love the campus and the facilities available to get on with my various assignments. Most lecturers are friendly and keep lecture interesting. Don't personally use the union as I find drinks to be expensive when they do events and music to be generic r n b Lots of societies available
Everything I expected from the university experience just do not feel their is enough support for students
Not bad wouldn't exactly shout about it
The uni is very modern and has very good facilities.
the mentors and welfare have been great. However the wait times are really long and make it hard to manage work and mental health when there is a 14week wait for counciling. the course itself the facilities are really good and the workshops are well organised with knowledgeable staff
University has been a great experience and I have enjoyed my course as well as the social aspect.
Great campus and facilities accessible more often than needed. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Enjoying the uni so far, good social life, course is very interesting and the staff are very good.
DMU is an amazing university. The best staff and courses!
De Montfort is very good, if you want a studio. Do yourself a favour and go to code. Same rooms, cheaper and has better facilities
is a very good experience really enjoy it, but the student union is there but no actual use the su club isn't the best. there is a job centre for part-time or placement, but the centre isn't the best as it didn't really give a clear direction to what and how the centre work
i like it, there is nothing that i do not like at the moment,
Very good! I’m enjoying my time there.
The campus has all the facilities you'll ever need, from art stores, dining halls, to a 24hr Library plenty of computers and graphic tablets to use. There are a range of clubs and societies to choose. The SU always keep you up to date with the university, as well as the city itself. There is always help when you need it, especially when it comes to your career. The Wifi is very good, you have access to it throughout the whole campus; including gyms and youth centres.
Can’t get onto the WiFi and it’s slow, limited amount of societies there is nothing art based there for art and design students. Facilities are good for the building I study in. Students union can be helpful but in my class they aren’t, they don’t want to do or say anything in case of upsetting lecturers. Careers service from what I’ve experienced is great, there is a whole department for every course to go to and use, careers fairs, guidance they couldn’t be more helpful.
I don't attend any of the societies to know what they are like. The Student Union are hard to get ahold of, and don't seem to to anything. They have no sense of presence (not necessarily a bad thing, I hate unions) Everything else is decent.
I am an alumnus and i suggest, Never go for this university.
I entered the university as a student from a underrepresented and disadvantaged background, and I believe the university needs to develop an approach for identifying and reporting bullying. Some lecturers have been known to disregard or distort the negative impact of harmful behaviour, and blame or dehumanize the victim -- I was excluded from participating in the university as a whole during the first day.
I've never used the SU or careers service so can't comment on those. The clubs and societies don't feel very inclusive to new people (or at least the ones I tried), but that's a bit beyond the universities control really. Campus is nice, internat is incredible (hitting about 350mbps in the games labs)
Amazing universe, there are so many services and opportunities!
Good university but they were in the mid of building new areas which effected studying. Good course and student union was good, if not sticky underfoot.
Well specified uni, but more needs to be done to support students academically.
It’s really really really really good I recommend it to everyone I do!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic uni. Loved every minute and if I am ever in Leicester I always return and it feels like home.
Not good if u r a brown or black skin.Nobody takes intesrest.worst University pl don't go n fall in a mess
The reception open my parcel without permission today, which really annoyed me
If you need a degree I guess you could go here wouldn’t advise it though lol
As an adult autistic student in was encouraged by the reviews. However I have had to take the finance department to the 3rd stage of a complaint just to get an correct invoice. I have spent more time in the last year trying to get help from their 'disabilities ' service then I have on the actual work I have ment to be doing. And they dont even take the complaints seriously. Its sickening way to treat autistic people. Avoid.
the big tv in the middle is very cool
The university has great facilities and the tutors are very supportive and flexible with you r final project. The course content is very varied and covers all topics in psychology.
the campus itself is always very clean and looks good
Nice campus, enjoyed spend afternoon in cafe doing works.
lovely campus, everyone is freindly
Don't get too hung up on university rankings because they really don't matter. As long as it's good for your course then it's good. There's a thing called DMU Global where you get the chance to experience international opportunities and learn new languages. 24 hour library which is so so useful. You can also hire laptops to use if you don't have your own. There's a cafe and vending machines in the library in case you get hungry. Standard Eduroam wifi which is good, you may have to search for how to log in and stuff though. There are lots of sports clubs and societies which you will learn more about during the freshers fair. Overall it's not a bad uni.
Amazing university, providing best facilities for students all over the world
Everyone here is very open and friendly. There's always an approachable person to help fix whatever problem you have.
Societies seem quite disorganised and lack publicity
The campus is really close to my accommodation and everything is close together. Its also in the city centre which is great.
one of the best university ...
Im fresher so i dont have a clear opinion yet so..
The worst University ever. It seems to have a flashy new building but no a lot else. Students who cannot get into any other University will be welcomed here. The best thing is the nursing course. However, when it comes to entry requirements it's more overseas students that native speaker. The courses/grades and marking system are all adapted so if your English is well below par you'll still receive high grades and qualifications. In other words a degree from this University is worth nothing. The teaching staff are not academics. Avoid applying to this University.
Terrible service. Slow admission. I am an international student and there's alot of stuffs need to be done before studying abroad. They said that they only received my application form 2 days ago while i submitted it 3 weeks ago, and still haven't gotten any feedbacks. Worst uni ever. Wouldn't even rate them if its possible.
Do not make what could be the biggest mistake of your life, the absolute worst university in Leicester alone, not to mention the country. Poor university that promote themselves on TV. Desperate and tragic.
The university is very social especially with the SU and constant events and parties.
Good for sports opportunity’s and travelling abroad. Many opportunity’s presenter throughout the year.
Fantastic opportunities with DMU global. Excellent facilities including a 24/7 library and computer labs.
An Amazing university for a variety of courses which welcomes and caters for all walks of life. With amazing society’s and sports teams there’s always a way to have fun and make friends outside of your degree !!
Uni has amazing WiFi connection throughout campus and many sporting societies for a variety of different people. The uni has loads of opertunities abroad and during holidays like DMU Global and other trips and placements
Amazing facilities and a brilliant city. Lively and great nightlife scene backed up by a thriving culture and good infrastructure. The uni campus is wonderful and the teaching is 1st class
Most wonderful experience, supportive team, could not be happier
A very looking forward University for employment and offering opportunities to its students. Great communication between the tiers of members of staff from the Vice Chancellor to Lecturers and Student Union Elected Officers
I’ve absolutely loved the whole experience of uni- my Foundation Degree with Leicester College was so interesting and provided me with knowledge that I doubt I’d have been able to get anywhere else; the facilities I was able to access at De Montfort were instrumental to passing my course (the library was to die for, the support I had access to was always a safety net for me if I ever needed to access it); and I’ve really grown as a person (as cheesy as that sounds) thanks to the placements that I’ve been on for my course (most recently at a Special Needs school for children) and being about to join the amazing DSU Game of Thrones Society; the WiFi on campus was excellent; the staff at the DSU have always been so lovely to talk to and helpful with the issues that I needed their help with. Coming to De Montfort University, and taking my Foundation Degree, going on my placements, and joining the Game of Thrones society have all been some of the best things I’ve ever done with my life.
De Montfort is a very average university that sells itself to be something it’s not. Although investing a lot of money recently, the reparations haven’t seem to have done much good. The student union was closed all throughout my first year, and after it’s ‘grand’ opening, apparently it had changed very little from before. One of the reasons I chose DMU was because it offered one of the best rates of getting a placement year, although the placement year seem to be next to useless. In a meeting where I wanted assistance with applications I was essentially told just to apply to everything and good luck. Most of my enjoyment from university has come from the people I have lived with, and that could happen anywhere in the world.
