All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Edson is an good manger he help me lot ,and i feel happy in here
would recommend in terms of facilities, location and management however not the best place to meet people if important. Cleanliness entirely dependent on flatmates which would be the only down side.
Very good reception Edson. I enjoy living in this place.
I think it is a good place for people to live, and the reception team is really good, especially Edson ! Around here there are a lot of shop and the bus to UCL (which is 205) is near too!
East central house is a nice accommodation, yet has some drawbacks. The staff is really attentive and helpful. My room (suite) is sufficient enough for my needs, satisfies everything you would expect from an accommodation. However for its price, the room had some problems that affected my experience. First of all, the pest problem in my floor took a long time to get rid of. Second of all, the freezer was not working properly for the first couple of weeks, and the sink was, and is, running slow and get blocked too often. Another thing I personally did not like was the design of the shower area. There is no wall or curtain to separate the shower from the rest of the toilet, which I found unpleasant. Except these, I really enjoyed my stay. Most significant element is the location. East central house is located between barbican and angel, which is 10 minutes walk from my University.
In three words this place is fun, exciting and homely
Very conveniently located near City, University of London.

I had a wonderful short stay at East Central House this summer, and I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the management team. I encountered a minor issue with my room key card when I first checked in, and the management team members displayed exceptional patience and efficiency in resolving it promptly. Their dedication to providing excellent service was evident. Besides, I always found someone at the reception desk whenever I needed assistance, which gave me peace of mind during my stay. I want to give a special shout-out to Edson, who not only warmly introduced this apartment to me on my first day here, but also went above and beyond to make my check-out process smooth and convenient based on my future travel plans. He is truly an exceptional individual, and I am grateful for his assistance. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Edson and the entire management team for making my stay memorable. I recommend here to anyone looking for a welcoming accommodation.

Hi, Thanks a lor for your comment! we are really happy that you are having a great stay with us!! ECH team
I’m having a good time at East central house, staff is very friendly and helpful. Very close to City university and the shopping markets and the tube is about 10 minute walk which is very convenient. I had a problem with booking a room through unite student, went to reception and Aida helped me out for the booking process, which I’m very thankful for.
Thanks for your comment, we do care about all of you!!! ECH team
Everything is fantastic and I really enjoy living here! Everyone is nice and helpful, especially Aida Jaskuniene! She is really amazing
Thanks a lot, we are always happy to help and support! ECH Team
The accomodation and it's staff is great!
Thanks! ECH team
The stuff in general is friendly and helpful. Especially Aida Jaskuniene. I like that the accommodation is quite close to Barbican and Shoreditch. The accommodation is not very social (maybe also because there is no separate common room) which might be good for more stay-in people.
Very nice to live here, workers are kind, especially for Aida, helped me a lot, thanks
Thanks a lot, we are always happy to help! ECH team
Staffs are nice and friendly. Aida is really helpful and so kind to talk to!
Thanks a lot!
The staff are pretty helpful and nice (especially Aida!). It is far from my uni in Bloomsbury, but location-wise it is close to Old Street, Shoreditch, and Angel which is nice in terms of activities, daily needs, food, and drinks. The downside is that the cleanliness of the hallways is not that great and there are rats in the accommodation kitchens. It's also very expensive considering I still have to travel to school. Also, you need a key card to get into everywhere, including your own kitchen in your flat which is slightly inconvenient.
First of all, thanks a lot for your review. We are happy that you find our staff nice and helpful. Regarding the cleanliness of hallways and kitchens, it is students responsability to maintain those areas clean, we do 2 inspections per month and advise, and if cleaning is not up to standards we do take further actions. For the communal areas we do have a full time cleaner and they are all very well maintained up to standards. I have passed your concerns to the Facilities team and they are looking onto this with immediate effect. As per safety, every student who lives in our buildings will need a key card to access to flats and other areas. Thanks a lot Regards ECH Team
Here I met the most lovely receptionist in the world, Aida Jaskuniene, who helps me whenever I need her and is always available to resolve issues.
Good to hear this!!! Thanks ECH team
Aida at reception has been extremely helpful!
Thanks! ECH team
Nice reception, good cleans, and prefect satefy!
Nice to hear this! Thanks ECH team
good service, kind stuff, great to live here!
Fairly good and very welcomed staffs, plus very convenient of shopping groceries since there are Argos, Coop, MS, Aldi and super drug (even a gym) on old street. There are also Tesco and Sainsbury’s on other locations nearby as well. But as living in en-suite, roommates are also key elements for how enjoyable the life can be. That isn’t going so well so maybe Unite Students can modify the Terms & Cons to make it easier when something not good happened such as roommate keep stealing things without putting back and use mental problems as shield. Yes that what I mean. The thing can’t be solved because it’s related to psychological problem. And maybe the Unite Students can ask tenants to clarify any circumstances that may affect other tenants while signing the contract, so the accommodation can fit their conditions easier or if they are not reported their difficulties before, accommodation has no responsibility of solving their problems but just simply terminate the contract.
Paying 11k for a small ish bedroom. Think it could be cheaper
Hi, We are really sorry that you aren't happy with the cost, however we set our prices in accordance with the actual London market. Thanks, ECH team
This place is not worth your money. It is very expensive compared to other halls. There has been mice in several kitchens and reception in fact are blaming it on us saying that we do not keep the kitchen clean but that is not the case! As it is their fault for leaving gaps when refurbishing. They have yet not filled the gaps where the mice are coming in from. They are aware of this issue and have delayed resolving this issue for a very long time. Internet is very slow and maintenance repairs are poor.
There have been hundreds of mice since I moved in here and I’m a 1st year student . It’s completely ruined my experience , currently I am trying to get out to my tennancy agreement to move back home but management are trying to tie to being liable when multiple flats have seen mice in this building not only me. I can’t sleep because I’m so scared , I seen a mouse in my room before . The kitchen has multiple mouse droppings me and all my flat mates have seen a mouse At least once . Other kitchens have also had this issue .
My experience for the year I was allocated this student accommodation was simply horrible.
definitely not recommend this hall extremely bad service for the maintenance. Can't fix a thing for the entire month. spend lots of time contacting to the emergency line and the maintenance team, but no progress.
Way too expensive.compared to other student halls. Not worth it. Especially when you first move in and you sweat non stop because of how hot it is. There's no air conditioning and very little ventilation. Also there have been many rat problems.
I would definitely not recommend this place.
