All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The staff here are fantastic! In particular, Matt from the maintenance team went above and beyond to retrieve my veneer from the sink trap after it accidentally fell down the bathroom sink. He was incredibly patient and understanding, taking my distress seriously. Not once was he dismissive or frustrated, even though the job was unpleasant, to say the least. I truly can’t thank him enough!! Sam, the manager, is always affable, welcoming, and ready to help. He also went out of his way to find a clean room for me in a flat with fewer people, even though I had initially been allocated a different room, and helped me move all my heavy luggage in. I nearly pestered him with my panic about when maintenance would arrive after I lost my veneer, but he remained kind and reassuring in response throughout and even came up to check if everything was okay afterwards. You can really tell that the staff genuinely care about the students, and their dedication makes this place worth it.
I almost died in the lift and then we had no working lifts for 2-3 months and I lived on the 8th floor, there was a major ant infestation in my flat for 8 weeks. The location is good and if you didn’t have those issues it would be fine but alas it was not.
The staff are very friendly especially Sam, so helpful and lovely.
Sam helped me extend my stay. Great service
Great place to live , Sam has been so helpful

Sam at reception has been so excellent, caring and always has time for me and my friends. I see him always working hard and I think he needs a rest!!
Samuel is an amazing receptionist. He aways makes my day and i love his endless care for the flat
The location is very convenient. Staff Sam is being very supportive and friendly.
Lovely place in a very good location in london. The staff( Ken, night shift staff and co) are always there to provide assistance with anything u may need.
Lovely staff really helpful special shoutout to Ken for going out of his way to help
Staff are incredibly friendly, and very quick to to resolve issues within the flat
I had a lovely time at Romano. The rooms were bigger than expected, the shared bathrooms wasn’t bad,the reception team are really good and nice. Ken helped with packages and effective communication whenever I needed help. helped when I had an argument with a flatmate and Romano told me I had to change flat even though I never signed up for it and it was someone else that put me up for a flat swap. He adviced me on how to handle it so the situation wouldn’t be heated again
many problems with flat whether it be lights not working, bathroom toilet messing up and the constant non working lift it was very frustrating. However I did see a change in management and quickness on getting stuff fixed once Kenneth joined. He is super friendly and it was always nice to walk into accom and be more or less greeted with a smile
Everyone at the front desk is incredibly helpful and kind!!
Place is adequate and upto standard with the staffe being really helpful. For example, Ken has helped resolved some issues and other members helping out also.
it was really good. receptionists are so nice, especially sam ken and sophie

The staff has been excellent. They have been very helpful, and were always great to be around. I can see that they genuinely tried their best to give us a good experience here, and I am thankful for it.
The staff, particularly Sophie, Kenneth and co are so so friendly and supportive. I’m really grateful to see their friendly faces at the starts and ends of my days. The building cleaning lady, Jo, is just lovely and really kind. The rooms themselves are good and the WiFi is excellent too.
Great place! Special thanks to Sam and Kenny for being very helpful with everything from parcels to questions about the area.
This building is extremely poorly managed. We have two lifts, both of which are broken at the moment. One has been broken since January, the other was broken when we moved in and was only fixed in December, and is now broken again. Who knows when we’ll have a working lift again. How are people who live on floors 6, 7, 8 supposed to carry groceries, laundry and bin bags up and down the stairs? The staff are 50/50. Some are genuinely kind and helpful, others unnecessarily rude and extremely lazy. Every flat had something missing when we all moved in- a mop, a kettle, a bin, etc. The fridge space? Abysmal. 4-5 people are expected to share one mini fridge and one mini freezer (one tiny shelf each). Toilets are constantly not flushing or overflowing, the washing machines often don’t start and the dryers leave your clothes wet. Not to mention it’s over £6 to wash and dry one load. For the location yes it is good value for money, but in every other aspect this accommodation is a scam.
Night team sleeps through shift
Romano Court has been an excellent accommodation to live in! As an international student experiencing London for the first time, I could not have imagined a better living space! The staff is lovely as well. I have to give a special shoutout to Sam at the front desk as his banter and conversations always brightens my day. Additionally, his responsiveness and proactively in resolving any issues is greatly appreciated by my flatmates.
Sam very helpful!, helped fix bathroom.
The porters are really nice and kind especially Sam he helped me out a lot, even with some personal stuff.
Sam helped me out a lot with finding everything around, really friendly staff that works here
Leaving a review for Matt S from maintenance, who kindly retrieved my necklace from my sink! Very efficient maintenance service at Romano Court :)
Hi, Glad to hear that!
I stayed at Romano for two summers, and it’s the best experience given the staff, facilities, and location! This year, I had booked until mid September and then had to leave early July, but yeah they still helped to cancel my contract so that I didn’t have to pay an extra 1400 quid! Really generous and kind staff (thanks Diana and Joe, and Sophie and others). Great location with Farringdon too. Highly recommend!
Hi, Thank you for sharing this. So happy to have returning customers!!!
For your first year of university, I highly recommend it. Very easy to meet people, very nice area (has everything around you and Farringdon station has lots of lines), close to university:
Hello, Thank you! Glad to hear you have been enjoying Romano Court and the neighbourhood!
Romano court is a good place to live in your first year of uni you get too meet a lot of people that you would probably not meet if not for student living. It’s fun close to uni in a very good location near the station so it is a nice place to socialise and engage in.
Hi! Thank you for leaving your review with us - we appreciate to hear you had a good experience!
My fave thing is the location, you’re so close to everything, especially the city uni and farringdon, however it would be great to have a better social area!! It’s good for what you’re paying and the kitchens are a good size which you share with 4 or 5 people.
hello, thanks for sharing your experience wit others while living in Romano Court!
It has been a great one and I wish I could return
Hello, thank you very much! Check out our website for summer stays or booking for 23/24! Romano Court Team
I stayed here for a couple months as a study abroad student. The digusting staff at unite student romano ct left me to roast at 30 degrees constantly as they refused to fix the radiator even after calling 4 times. These dirty dirty people have absolute no respect for their tenants and hate me.
All acceptable if you can afford it
Its student accomodation cant really say much about it
Had a great 9 months staying here, met some great people and the all the staff were great,
very good location and good value for money compared to other places
Very nice hall overall ! It looks brand new, the bedrooms are good (double bed, lot of space), the bathrooms are okay and the kitchen is well laid-out.
It would be very nice with a common room or social area where people could get together and stuff.
Met the most amazing people in halls that I was able to socialise (pre drink) with most nights with occasional interruptions from security who were very moderate if we were being too loud
