All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

My experience has been very good at this accommodation. Desmond and Hugo have gone out of their way to make this year wonderful and I greatly appreciate it. Last year I was in other private accommodation and did not enjoy myself but this year with Unite Students has been brilliant. With the team at Cross Court, I always felt safe and comfortable in a way I didn't in my previous accommodation.

The property is value for money. And Desmond is very friendly and helpful.
Thank you!
live here for two weeks. Always lack of hot water during busy times in evening (20:00-24:00) and this is in summer. Daytime hot water supply is normal, but still be careful when you want to live here outside of summer or you are a cold shower enjoyer then thats fine. There is East central house which is better in its location for transportation and shopping daliy necessities
Hello, Sorry to hear about the hot water issues you have experienced while living in Cross Court House.
Only just arrived so some of the stars I can’t give higher than 3 or 4
Thank you. We hope you settled in well!
My stay at Cross Court has been the perfect way to settle into London. The rooms are a nice size and the bed really comfy. Amazing location, so close to Angel, the city center, and Kings Cross The staff at reception have been exceptionally welcoming, friendly, and attentive, especially Barbara and Hugo. I would definitely recommend staying here!
Hi, Thank you for leaving your review with us - so happy to see that you enjoyed your accommodation and staff was helpful and friendly.
The staff were so helpful throughout my time there they were very friendly and tried to accommodate as best as possible. The female receptionist Barbara in particular was very welcoming and made me feel at ease during my time there.
Hello, Thank you for sharing your experience while living at Cross Court House. We are so happy to hear that staff was kind and helpful!
Not a good student accom but not the worst either. Started construction work right before exams and continued throughout exam season. No regard for students with dust allergies. 4th floor was dirty throughout stay. Management is great though. Especially Barbara, she’s a gem. Helpful and attentive
Hi, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We will endeavour to be better in the future!
The reception- literally all the staff - are so so so lovely and welcoming, I think this is what topped off the whole experience, they’re very helpful, and I really enjoyed everything, I would definitely recommend this accom to first years as it really encompasses what a uni hall/uni life should be. Nothing bad to say :)
Hi! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We are very pleased to hear that staff has been a huge part in making your stay at Cross Court House pleasant and comfortable.
Cross court house has a very friendly/kind staff who work at the the reception desk. Specifically Barbara, she’s very kind and always ready to help with anything or answer any questions I might have. The service here is delivered in a fantastic way to help students feel like it’s home.
Hello, Thank you very much for sharing your experience while living at Cross Court House. We are please to hear that Barbara has been a huge support during this time.
Cross court house is an excellent accommodation to live along with the amazing staff
Hello, thank you so much :)
Location: 7 minutes walk away from school, which is very convenient. Food stores like Bagci (opens 24/7) and Co-op are just one corner away, saviours of urgent needs. Angels, where the nearest tube station, farmers market, and collection of groceries stores are at, is just 15-20 minutes away from this place. Service: Receptionists are incredibly friendly and thoughtful. They greet you everyday, keep an eye on your parcels, respond to any complaints or requests almost instantly. Cleanliness: The cross court team has monthly kitchen inspections and they clean the hallway from time to time. However you should pray that you have responsible flatmates when u get here. Safety: Late night walks are not encouraged as there has been criminal activities happening nearby. Receptionists limit visitors number to control noise disturbances and safety for us. Facilities: Lift has been broken for months. smh. But there is stable supply of hot water, wifi, heater. Recommended.
Hi, thank you for leaving a review for us. We are sure that it will be helpful for future students.
A place with really good facilities and great location near “Angel” underground station, which is really convenient, especially for students
Thank you!
Receptionist is generally very friendly and willing to help out whenever you need something. Kitchens are well-equipped but the walls between the rooms can be quite thin, so I don’t recommend you making too much noise because it can be distracting for your flatmates, but all in all it’s close to the uni and very convenient in terms of places to grocery shop, restaurants and pubs :)
Thank you for leaving your review :)
It was a good place location was good Security is good too Making friends is easy due to the flat system

Thank you very much!
Friendly and helpful staff Nice place to live
Thank you :)
The people working here are very friendly and hard working also a very safe area with no issues.
Thank you!
Hello friends chai peelo It’s a shame how these rooms are orange in colour. It gives me depression every day I wake up and never have I ever felt this homesick because of this toilet. It’s funny how my kitchen sticks sooooooooooooOooOoOooOo much. Plus my flatmates all of them stink so how do you expect me to have a clean kitchen. Secondly the laundry room is also stinky and it’s quite haunted tbh. How do you expect us 18 years old children to be brave enough to go to the basement alone when our friends are not willing to go with us. As I entere the building there is a diffrent smell everywhere till I reach my room Yet you guys do nothing about it. Noise complains, I am always getting. It’s actually depressing maintain our noises when my friends are over maybe you guys should have thought about making the walls a little thick so my stupid neighbour does not have to complain everyday. Even he stinks btw. Thanks friends peace
Hello, thank you for sharing this information. We are sorry to hear about your experience while living with us. Please could you approach us at the reception or email us to see if there is anything we could do to improve the situation? We also hope that current guest policy has improved the noise levels in the building. Thank you!
The build it self is okay, the receptionists are extremely friendly, nice and helpful any problems or issues I have they try their best to help and they always give a nice greeting when I see them
Thank you!
The accommodation is a nice place. The location is nice and safe. The rooms are compact but great. The staff are fantastic and very friendly.
Thank you :)
Excellent student accommodation for first year students to make good connections with a wide range of people with different backgrounds.
Hi! Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to hear it has been a good one! Cross Court House Team
All city University students will love the accommodations at Cross Court House. I had spent the previous year living in Newcastle and I was very unhappy because the accommodation was dreadful . I was first afraid when I moved to London because I believed it would be horrific, much like Newcastle. I was wrong ! I was stunned shortly after I had moved in . It immediately felt like home . The employees helped me with my bags, gave me a warm greeting, and showed me around. The employees at Cross Court are really helpful and polite. Congratulations to the staff Dan and Barbara, I love them both . Their upbeat attitude brightens the atmosphere at Cross Court. The description of my room before I moved in was accurate. Extremely clean, quite roomy, and I had a window that looked out over the canal. Social life was wonderful ( we had out secret parties ). Location was super close to uni . Overall, Cross Court was a wonderful experience for me, and I hope I can return the following year.
Hello, we are so happy to hear about your experience living at Cross Court House and that it exceeded your expectations. Wish you all the best!
I got ALL MY MONEY STOLEN, all my belongings had been moved or touched and my toilette had been used and left very dirty, on the same day that the staff came into my room to bring something in. When trying to solve the situation with the management I personally found them unwilling to help. For legal reasons, I have to say that I have no evidence it was the staff, and therefore I am not accusing them, but I am clearly stating that this event took place on the same day they they went into my room.
PROS: - Internet/Wifi is free (you can add multiple devices) & good quality - The location is fantastic (walking distance to work, Angel tube & Shoreditch and beautiful canal nearby) - Comfortable bed CONS: - The bathroom and kitchen are poorly maintained (yellow stains in shower, dirt in corners of the floor). - The common room has no opening windows(just glass bricks) so no ventilation so it's like a stuffy sweatbox). - Same for kitchen - no ventilation because no windows/extractor. - The building design is very poor. On the fourth floor you exit the lift, go up three stairs and then down 6 stairs to access the rooms. Doesn't make sense. - CIRCUIT LAUNDRY - terrible service as the app often stops working so you can't use the machines. The machines don't wash your clothes/etc properly and often they come out dirty AND the location of the laundry room is so far away it's too far to carry large loads of clothes. - when reporting any maintenence issues - bad service
Its very expensive for what you get. The en-suits aren't brilliant for socialising so I would recommend talking to others on a social networking site before moving in.
