In terms of what you should be getting the cost wasn't too bad at £115 pounds for a studio. However, it's nice to have a room where the light wasn't out for 3 weeks. In terms of my specific room, there's a fairly sizable hole in the wall that was there since I moved in. The thin walls mean that if you are to have someone spending all night in the social room that's all you'll be able to hear if drug users and drunks aren't screaming and harassing people outside all night. The location itself isn't an ugly area now that it is done up but again because of the year long work and the lack of soundproofing it became hard to sleep especially on the ground floor due to the drills and the streetlight that was connected to a generator. Peeling paint was left behind the cupboard when I arrived and the management apart from a few members of staff are mostly useless.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The agency in charge rarely actually repair or deal with any issues, unless it effects the building and thus their bottom line, i've got paint peeling from the ceiling onto my stuff and my bed which they were aware of and refuse to fix, furthermore i've got more issues than can be counted but here is a few - unable to access bins due to builders blocking them off, agency simply said oh ask them to move their stuff, frankly i work and don't have time to deal with that given I pay £130 a week which is almost as much as other better places. - heater hasn't worked all year they were informed and haven't dealt with it - sink in bathroom has not worked properly since the start, it neither works with the plug it or out it drains extremely slowly even when I myself unclogged the pipes after getting tired of their 2 - the area is full of drunks and drug users harrassing people entering the building avoid at all costs 3 - one washer and 3 small bins to share which are always full
