Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

It’s a really nice place to live, only a 10-15 min walk to town centre. Staff are really nice and super helpful when there’s an issue it’s fixed as soon as possible. The social space is good however it’s sometimes locked which is inconvenient when there’s no staff to open it. And occasionally the WiFi isn’t as good as it could be in the rooms but that’s an issue that can be solved contacting glide. Overall it’s a good accommodation.
First place I've lived after family home, the receptionist are lovely and appliances provided work well. Very nice xx
Wonderful staff , very friendly and welcoming! Good facilities, good atmosphere. Very awesome & cool! :D
Staff are friendly, welcoming and organised. They resolve any concerns and issues very timely including administrative problems or physical problems with the property equipment. I cannot fault the staff by any means. The location is adequate; 20 minute walk from city centre including train station and bus station. The building and rooms are very secure. However, the building facilities itself, although cleanly, are very minimalistic therefore I deem the accommodation to be significantly overpriced especially considering my rent is increasing by 10% next year. Laundry facilities are notably overpriced as-well at £5.50 per wash and dry for students.
everything is amazing minus the wifi. It’s SOO SLOW
Really good accommodation in Newcastle! Definitely recommend! Both the rooms and kitchens are really nice and good value for money. The rooms have everything you need as do the kitchens and are both spacious. All the staff are so nice and are always happy to help with any problems and get them sorted!
Paying close to the highest rate of any accomodation in newcastle, the experience is an absolute disgrace. £145 rent per week for a place I wouldn't pay over £90 for. Kitchen hob is disfunctional - only 2 of the 4 rings actually heat up enough to be usable. Rooms don't have doors on the wardrobe - its just bare to see. No drawers in the room, crap heating, electricity connected to your door key so you can't leave your computer on in your room while outside, can't charge your phone while outside. And the worst offence- they still charge you for laundry, £5.50 to wash and dry a load.
Stayed here for 3 years running, the staff are excellent and the amount you get for the money is amazing. The on suite is sizeable and the whole room area has plenty space and storage. The kitchen is spacious with plenty cupboards and bench space. It is close enough to town and Northumbria Uni where you can walk with no issue, the accom faces the quayside. Overall, a positive place to live with many benefits.
Best accommodation in Newcastle, the rooms and kitchens are perfect and amazing quality for price, Rachael, Louisa and Phil are so lovely and are available to help with any issues wouldn’t recommend any other place to stay!
Canny place good views n that aye
Mansion Tyne offers the best welcoming stay! Receptionists both managed my queries well! Louisa helps a lot through everyday issues I experience I feel like home and so at peace living here. Whenever I have an issue louisa always rectifies this in no problem whatsoever
Deluxe studios are very spacious, including wardrobe space and storage. Staff are lovely and cleaners do an amazing job. I wasn't aware some studios are within shared flats. Been living here as a 3rd year student looking for some peace to focus on my final year, the surrounding flats were all occupied by 1st years who were loud until 4/5am (didn't want to spoil their fun so stuck my headphones on to sleep/study, but something to consider if you want somewhere quiet). Never known a fire alarm to go off as much as it has, but other than that, decent location - next to Quayside, close to university and city centre.
Although the accomodation is acceptable in terms of price and product there are various aspects that are poorly attended. Customer service is bad, upon arrival they don't care to show you the flat themselves, they just give you a key. They rely on the student wardens for most duties and when you go to management with a genuine question, it will be hard to get a good answer. It is very far from uni, like 20 minutes walking from the main Northumbria campus and 35 minutes from Newcastle uni. Upon termination of the contract they don't even care to get the key they gave you at the beginning. When I suggested extending my stay they gave me the inflated price of 120 ppp starting this September "a price that was already fixated and won't be changed" however on the web they promote their accomodation for less than 110ppp. Would not recommend if you are a first year or an international student.
Amazing accomodation with amazing staff!
a nice accommodation the staff are lovely and it’s surrounded by shops and it’s close to town
mansion tyne is a unreal accom, it has a very welcoming atmosphere with all the staff being so friendly and caring. the location is ideal, its a 10 min walk from uni and 5 mins away from the quayside so most rooms have an unreal view which is nice. its also really cheap compared to the other accoms which is good as the rooms are massive and it has a nice social space. its just a lovely accommodation which keeps all the students safe and happy.
Unreal place to live really nice people and Rachel is just so lovely, she looks after all of us like a big family, love her and louisa to bits👍🏼 The staff is great and I would recommend this to anyone
Fantastic location near the quayside as well as the town centre and the Ousborne too. The place and facilities are all basically new and had no problems in using them. Excellent price for the value.
staff and members very helpful and friendly
Mansion Tyne is the best student accommodation I have ever stayed in! Not only is it right by the quayside with beautiful views, but the staff are also so helpful and accommodating. In comparison to the previous accommodation I have stayed in this is like a 5 star hotel!!! The staff are more like friends and go out of their way to get to know you. 1000% recommend xxxx
Great accommodation, extremely lovely staff who do the most to make sure students are happy and enjoying themselves. Buildings always full of energy with very friendly students, social areas are always kept clean. Cinema room is great and can even be used as a recording studio. Internet can unreliable sometimes but that’s an issue with glide and the fire alarms can get annoying. Lived here 2 years now and will be booking for a third.
hands down one of the best accommodations i’ve been at. i will be rebooking for next year because it’s in a beautiful location right next to the quayside, it has the most friendly staff and i’ve meant some genuine nice people here. would 100% recommend to anyone looking to have a great first year or even any year at uni.
Amazing place to live!! Staff are excellent
Excellent place to live for students. Nice and friendly reception staff.
Rachel and Louisa are one of the best student accommodation staff I’ve ever met. they’re care for the students and always want the best for them, even when we do things we shouldn’t. The accommodation is well looked after by Phil the other cleaning staff. Throughly enjoyed my time here and I’m glad I chose this accommodation
Such a great place to live everyone is so friendly and respectful staff are very caring and attentive overall an amazing uni experience despite the lockdown etc! Highly recommended
Good value for money based on location and en-suite, location is great walking distance from uni and Tesco’s. Receptionists are helpful and fair. Corridors and social spaces are usually clean but the hand gel holders during COVID were never filled up. Social spaces are good with pool table and cinema room. Internet is very bad making uni work hard and only 1 out of the 2 Ethernet ports work in most rooms
Without a doubt, the greatest place to stay in Newcastle as a student. All of the staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at ease. The facilities are fantastic, and you'll have everything you need to excel at university. I would really suggest it!
Can’t fault the value for money, it’s absolutely superb and the staff are unrivalled. Stayed here for the last 3 years and wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. Couldn’t have asked for a better university experience.
The location is spot on, 10 minute walk down to the quayside and 15 minutes into the city centre; staff are all amazing and are willing to help with any problems, Phil is a very good handy man and all round 10/10 guy and Rachel&Louisa always make sure you are cared for and looked after.
It’s a good accomadation with perfect location for walk into uni aswell as distance to town being ideal! Wifi is not the best and could deffo be improved!
Staff are so friendly and caring in many ways. Bedrooms and kitchens here are spacious perfectly suitable for international students. Apart from Wifi network issues mansion tyne is a perfect place to stay.
Perfect accommodation suited to all. Close to all local amenities and is a 15minute walk from central station. 10mins to northumbria and 15/20 mins to Newcastle. Rooms are the perfect size with a double shower en-suite!!🤩 kitchens are modern and are huge compared to many other accoms. Bills also being included in price makes it a bargain! Staff and management ( Rachael and Louisa) are amazing at what they do and will always do their best to sort your problems the same day (they have great craic if you ever want someone to talk too)!! The only downside is the wifi can be slow but this is the same provider as everything other accom🤷♀️
Very good place to live away from home. I'm an international student living at this place for almost two years now. Very helpful hospitality team responds to every issue at any point of time. Maintained the place very well during pandemic like never even bothered of infection here. Worth for the cost paid. Great place overall !!!
Lovely staff all friendly and caring -Louisa & Rachel. Always on hand to help wherever possible great value for money and great location.
Great place to live as a student, Couldn’t ask for better staff, Rachel and Louisa are so lovely and genuine, they’ll do the their best to help you in any situation. Bills being also included in the rent gives you peace of mind.
One of the best places I've stayed in all my 5 years of university
This accommodation is ideally suited just a short walk from the quayside, the town and local amenities such as Morrisons. All of the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly especially Rachel who manages the accommodation. The social facilities are warm and inviting including a cinema room and a pool table. The cleaning is second to none and there is plenty of opportunity to get to know fellow students here. The facilities are more than adequate in both the kitchen and a large bedroom. I wished I had found the accommodation earlier!
The accommodation is in an ideal location close to the quayside and a short walk from town. The rooms are really nice and spacious for such a cheap price. The reception are lovely and always super helpful whenever I need anything! I have already booked to stay here again next year.
Very impressed with this gorgeously located student accommodation. Staff always respond promptly to my emails and are happy to help when needed. I've been a resident for two years and have just renewed my contract for the final year of my PhD.
Spacious bedrooms and kitchen/living room area, and good value for your money only downside is the Wi-Fi being quite slow
Very spacious rooms and ensuites as well as big kitchens and livings areas in each flat. The property management is great with things being fixed within the day or next. The social spaces are good with a ping pong table, cinema room and pool table. I have had a very good experience socially and all of the neighbouring flats were very friendly. The only downside is the wifi it is useable but not as great as at home.
Good place to live but wifi isn’t the best
Amazing and friendly staff, they always make you feel part of the family. Best addition to my student experience!
such good value for money, best views of the quayside and 10 min walk from town
