My first time in student accommodation and it’s been great! On site staff help quickly and are so kind, they’ve fixed the one issue we had the same day! My flatmates are great and thanks to the lovely social space, we hang out a lot! The public transport is very useful too!

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Helloo! My experience of living at West Park Flats has been great up till now. The Standard rooms are not too small; for the cupboard, big desk and Small double bed they accommodate, there is comfortable space and a tiny en-suite bathroom for one. There are shelves and drawers in the desk to keep your things. The heating throughout the flat was perfect for the first week I was here. Our building had heating issues for the next week. However, the staff was very prompt in resolving it and provided radiators in the meantime. The kitchen is big, has a microwave, an oven, an induction stove, and a spacious countertop. It has a lot of storage space for your utensils. There are 2 fridges, with more freezer compartments than normal ones. The flat is cleaned by the students using the mop (with a bucket), broom and hoover provided. My flatmates and I have a rota for the same along with taking the trash out. Bin-liners for food waste and general waste have to be bought by the residents. 😊
Hi I am pleased you are enjoying your experience while living at West Park. I am glad the site team are looking after the residents. Enjoy the remainder of your stay with us :)
There was one washing machine that would break every time you used it
If there are any issues with the washing machines Circuit who manage the laundries are very quick to attend and repair any faults. Thanks for your review :)
West Park is a generally quiet area since it’s further out from the city, which has been nice! Downside is it does take a while to get from your accommodation to the university campus, but it’s a fine walk. The flats aren’t perfect and my flat specifically had a damp patch in the wall, but I found it had everything I needed/the other accommodation placements had without the extra cost.
Thanks for your review. The flats are a little worn but planned for an uplift this Summer. I'm glad you enjoyed the walk :)
West park flats is alright if you study medicine or are just looking for cheap accommodation but there is no cleaning services and hardly any social bits of the building but if ur just looking a place to stay then it’s perfect assuming you get alone with your flat mates
Thank you for your review. The re3sidents in the flats are free to use the common room and study rooms in the villas as a social space.
Kitchen/ living space is very homey. Bedrooms are comfy.
thanks for your review!
We’ve had a few issues with things breaking around the flat, the oven broke twice, one window didn’t close, the shower drains weren’t working, etc. However, Steve, who came to fix all the issues with the flat is absolutely lovely and deserves a pay rise! Other than that, flat is lovely :)
I am glad Steve was on hand to fix the issues! Thanks for the review :)
The distance to the uni is the main reason I regret choosing this accommodation, sometimes the buses won't come and you end up rushing to lectures. It's also quite inconvenient that the closest shops for groceries are about 25 minutes away. The rooms themselves are quite nice, there is enough space and it's very comfortable. It is also unfortunate that there aren't any common rooms to meet other people in your building, only the space in the kitchen.
Thanks for your review

Thanks for your review, I am glad you are enjoying student life!
Nice accommodation but the location is not the best. You also have to pay for laundry
Thanks for your review
overall, a very good experience.
Thanks for your review
Staff are nice and friendly but don't seem to deal with some enquiries or problems with the room as well as I expected them to.
Thanks for your review
West Park Flats is a nice accommodation and I enjoy living here. I would only suggest improvements in the kitchen area, because the oven is not really that good, it takes a lot more time to cook sth sometimes. And hoovers need replacement as well. They work alright but they stink. Apart from that everything's cool. And the location is not a massive problem. It's not that far and encourages you to walk.
Thanks for your review
Really good experience in the west park flats with the rooms having exceptional WiFi and a good kitchen to share between 6
Thanks for your review
Decent comfortable accommodation, not too over-the-top but also not terrible. All issues with the flats are wuickly resolved so that's a huge advantage.
Glad to hear the accommodation was comfortable and issues were quickly resolved
It was ok. It is quite far from university and City Centre compared to the other university accommodation. It's safe and noise levels aren't too bad.
Thank you for your review. As West Park is located 1km from the main campus, we are able to provide parking and more spacious grounds.
The management and staff are excellent. However, West Park Flats is let down by the location and old decor. Wifi was also poor - constantly cutting out.
Thank you for your positive feedback re our team. We are sorry you had issues with the WiFi. Any issues with the connection can be reported to the University via Help4U@dundee.ac.uk
West park flats was a good experience and was a good place to live in my first year of university. I would definitely recommend to any first year on their first time away from home
thank you for your kind review - we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your reommendation!
The flat was lovely however I think for being quite far away from the uni it should’ve been cheaper
Thank you for your review and comments. The University has taken the location of West Park into consideration and this is reflected in the cost compared to the accommodation nearer the main campus. West Park has the added benefit of having parking available, spacious grounds and being closer to the Ninewells campus.
It’s been a good stay, good experience and place to stay when starting uni! have made a lot of friends in accomodation
thank you for your kind review - we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and made lots of friends!
West Park Flats was the best place to meet other students and to stay while studying. I have met some of my very closest friends staying here.
Thank you for your review. Its great to read that you have made close friend during your stay at West Park Flats
It was good value for money. Nice quiet location except far from all amenities like groceries. Normally safe
HI , Thanks for your review.
Do not accept a place here Too far from all the buzz of campus Absolutely nothing going on Spent a fortune on taxis- union bus not very reliable Was just so depressing- not a place for first year students trying to establish friendships and social life Shops miles away , whereas if ur on campus there is a shop on site plus several shops nearby and the union is always good for a meal- stuck out in west park there is none of that Can’t believe the uni just let u vegetate out there and don’t put a single thing on to make u feel included Sort it out dundee
Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry you felt that West Park was too far from the buzz of campus for you. The University's ResLife team and the accommodation staff are working on engagement with all residents for support and inclusion
Before moving to west park the reviews made it appear terrible. However I found it far from it! Although basic, the rooms & kitchen areas are very clean upon arrival and of decent size too. Although it's a good 25 minute walk to campus, west park is based in the nicest area of Dundee. In the west end there are some truly amazing buildings, and you are right next to the magdalen green, as well as the botanical gardens. Also for someone like me who just loves to put in earphones and go for a good stroll, this walk is perfect! And as for the social life in my opinion it was far more exciting than that of the campus halls- it has its own little community. In fact I knew of several people who would trek all the way up here for pres! I met the most amazing people here and made memories that I'll never ever forget. I know next year I'll miss West Park and I'm so glad I spent my first year there and I urge anyone reading these reviews to know that it's really not as bad as people make it out.
Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay are West Park and the community spirit that you and your fellow residents created! Glad to hear that you took advantage of the surrounding area and enjoyed your commute into Uni! Thanks again for your review - this will be a great help to other residents.
West park was an experience within itself great fun a little removed from Dundee but within the west end so further removed from true scumdee so really a great time
Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased you enjoyed the experience of living at West Park and in the picturesque west end of the city
Location is terrible, cba going to lectures cause it took half an hour to walk to, nearest shop is 15 min walk away absolute nightmare, hard time socialising as nobody ever came to flat parties as its so far away from campus. The wifi was the only good thing
Hi, thanks for your review, so are sorry that you felt West Park location was terrible. Situated between the main campus and Ninewells in the quieter west end of the city, it is on a main bus route. Glad you enjoyed the University of Dundee's high speed internet which is included in the rent.
West park flats are a nice place to spend first year, they’re cheaper that the other halls of residence but you do sacrifice location a little as they’re about a 20 minute walk from the campus
Hi, thanks for your review, it will be a great help to other students!
Massive money sink for not very much value given the distance away from the uni. also getting things repaired can take weeks.
Hi, thanks for your review, we are sorry that you did not have a great experience living at West Park. We do aim to get repairs completed within a reasonable timescale.
If you live at West Park, be prepared to have those that live on campus look at you in disgust and don't ever expect them to come visit or come to one of your parties. Also be prepared for a 20 minute walk to uni in the morning, 30 if you're hungover. However, the social life is bangin' and always expect pre drinks to be going on somewhere. Tip: do not go to the villas, you will literally live in a dungeon. Oh, and don't ever expect a working washing machine.
Hi, thanks for your review. The laundry facilities for both West Park Flats and West Park Villas have now been upgraded and you can view availability on the circuit view app. They are also now coinless so there is less breakdowns than with the previous machines and both laundries are avaiable to residents.
Miles out, far too expensive to enjoy properly, nice rooms though and decent social space.
Hi, thanks for your review. West Park is approx 2km from both the main campus and Ninewells campus and on a regular bus service route! We are pleased you enjoyed the rooms and social space
It's too far away especially when doing food shopping. Nice views along Perth Road. However for the distance it is away from uni, it's way too expensive!
Hi - thanks for your review - sorry you feel it is too expensive for the location between the main and Ninewells campus
It's a great place to live, it's just far too far away from everything so I've probably spent the difference in rent from West Park and Belmont in taxi fairs to take me places or on nights out when you're too late for the bus.
HI - thanks for your review, I am sorry that you felt it was too far away from the main campus.
West Park is on the outskirts of the University but it's a calm place and the morning walks aren't too bad
thank you for your review!
Lovely accommodation, but 15 minutes from campus is a bit annoying, as well as inconvenience to go shopping! Saves money on buses by walking to Ninewells on the morning (~30 mins)
Thank you for your review!
Halls have a community feel, although the distance is further than other halls.
Thank you for your review
West Park Flats are really nice, well managed, and good for socialising!
Hi - thanks for taking the time to leave a review, this will be a great help to other students! we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us!
Honestly, it's too far away from anything. It's a 15 minute walk from the nearest shop. The bus the university then put on, which is only at night for the union, is also terrible and you never know how often it's running if even at all. You get absolutely no mobile network signal on my flat and therefore depend on the wifi they provide. But when that isn't working, which is happened a few times, your phone is useless while inside. For the flats there is no common space for all of us and because we are so far away it is difficult to meet people.
Hi - thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we are sorry you found West Park's location was not suitable for you. Some residents prefer the location, situated between the main campus and ninewells in the leafy West End. The University has upgraded the WiFi in the residences and we have refurbished the common room and a study zone in the Villas which all residents at West Park now have access to.
Avoid living here at all costs. Too far away from everything, at least a 15 minute walk to the nearest shop. Always have to walk everywhere or get a taxi because the busses are so infrequent. The money you end up spending on various taxis everywhere you may as well have paid the extra to stay in heathfield.
Hi - thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we are sorry you did not enjoy your stay at west park. Buses run frequently past West Park to Ninewells Hospital or into the City Centre. xploredundee.com Other bus services are available via Blackness road if you walk up West Park Road.
It may be a 15 minute walk to class in the morning but it is worth it. Westpark is a community! Plus theres a free night bus to take you home when you're bevied
Hi, thanks for your review, it will be a great help to other students! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay at West Park!
