All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Very good area to live in and very close to the university. over priced for what is it, there are better options elsewhere for more affordable students, especially considering we are living in a cost-of-living crisis I imagine it will become even more expensive. really bad value for money Things break fairly often and assistance sorting out repairs or fixes is not very good either. socail spaces is fine and wifi has not had any issues for me the location it self is quite central but there are still better options out there that are just as if not closer to either the uni, city center or both
I really appreciate the on-site staff and the high quality of the complex. It was a fear tear.

Staying here has been lovely, the staff are wonderful and any issues I've had have been sorted promptly
Quite a few problems sprung up when first moving in, but problems were quickly solved by staff.
This is a great place to stay, great rooms and great people.
Great place to stay and I would recommend
An excellent place with a very helpful staff. Very responsive to maintenance requests and located in an optimal place for students. A bit pricey considering other options, but great for getting acclimated to the area.
I am a parent of a student at Parker house who came home for the weekend before the corona virus started and was unable to return due to the outbreak which is understandable, However it is completely unacceptable that Parker house are unable to pause the rent that costs a fortune for something she’s not allowed to live in! This has been weeks and she is liable for rent ! Parker house needs to sort this out ASAP because this is very unreasonable ! I have contacted them countless times about this and promised call backs from the manager and still no communication has been received so now I am pre warning everyone about this!
I stayed in Parker house in my first year of university and it was the best decision I made. Staff are so friendly and always looking after you with whatever you need. Lots of events held to keep you entertained and very clean and well equipped flats. Couldn’t recommend more!!
I have just finished my first year at university where I stayed at iQ Parker House, and I loved it! My flat was mixed with girls and boys and we always used to meet up with other flats in the common room. The staff are so lovely and are always happy to help you, I’m definitely going to miss them next year. The accommodation is modern and clean, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for student accommodation in Dundee.
Parker House was a great experience for me. I loved the social activities and the services provided by the staff... especially when there was free food on the go. Free tea and coffee too towards the end of my stay which I hope they continue when I'm back next year. The maintenance team are the absolute heroes here. They're fast, friendly and can have a laugh with you when they're doing their work, even things like a blown bulb take less than a day to fix when other halls would see it as not essential and take a week to fix it. The management team are lovely, they helped me with some issues I had throughout the year, they're super helpful when it came to academic issues too which was good.
A great place to stay but very expensive
Management are b***** and pick on residents. Had countless issues with members of there team. Over priced and can find cheaper nicer accomadation elsewhere in the city. Avoid!!!
Management definitely have their favourites and if you're not one of them they can be quite b*****. The security/ maintenance staff on the other hand are amazing; so friendly and make you feel at home. Definitely overpriced; the social area doesn't have proper sofas and the tv is tiny. Great place for parties so very noisy all the time.
Brilliant halls, great people, great experience
If it wasn't for the friends I made halls would not have been an enjoyable experience. Couldn't get access to Internet unless you were connected to walk on your laptop. Beds were uncomfy and so was the communal space in each flat.
The staff are amazing, there's a true sense of community about the place.
The staff are really quite b*****- they all have their favourites. Excellent location, although you pay an arm and a leg for quite a basic flat. The same price could find you a lot nicer flat with actual sofas!!! and a decent sized TV.
These halls are fantastic any maintenance problems are dealt with straight away.
Was here in first year and really liked it. Nice modern rooms, ensuite and social spaces. Kitchen it good as well and has some good views. So close to town literally 2 mins.
Management was disgusting. That is all.
