It’s an okay uni, don’t expect too much from any department, kinda just feels like a fancier college to be honest
Never used career service, not going to have career as I’m failing
Lovely campus nice place to stay
Good people, good equipment, good space... everything good!
Very basic and not a lot of communication between departments. Clubs and student union are not popular at all and badly need marketing.
Badly organised lectures. Timetable apps never work. But amazing facilities to be used unlike any other. Some good teachers other OK
The best university, we great teachers and facilities.
Amazing uni! So much to study with helpful facilities
Good facilities and equipment!
I was sold the uni as the new building and how amazing it was, not once have I been in it for one lesson and I’ve been at the uni 2 years. I’m always in the older building across the park, many people are the same and are very annoyed too.
Really happy I chose Solent university. They’re always making new and improved changes to facilities l.
Amazing university, staff are brilliant and are always willing to help. Soon to have a new sports building with incredible equipment.
This uni supports you and changes stuff when needed for the best of the students.
It’s a good uni because it’s in the city centre. Therefore, we got a lot of shops to go to.
Very pleased with the new sports centre My lecturers are perfectly presented And the events held are well thought out and organised
My course is fantastic and loved every second of it however the student union is basically non existent.
Great lecturers, good career advice
Everything else is perfect, the student union is pathetic however and most people wouldn’t even know where it was if you asked them.
Lecturers are so helpful and there is such a variety of opportunities for career development
Amazing facilities and a modern feel to the university. Fantastic staff and lecturers and a great range of courses. Food outlets expensive though.
Great resources! Amazing university!
It’s a really great university
Perfect university for me, great teachers and lots of opportunities for placement.
Very good the student bar needs to come back in order for the university to achieve a high social ranking
Love uni so much! The staff and atmosphere are incredible❤️
Overall a good uni where you can have a laugh
Solent university is great for industry work
The facilities for the photography course are amazing
I really love the university, the facilities are amazing and staff are incredibly helpful. Do wish there was a few more societies and the student union hosted more events in order to meet new students.
Didn’t get the support I needed for my course and disabilities. When I asked for help and needed support, I was told I wasn’t able to park on campus to help me and I’d need a disability badge through the council which I am still going through processes for a year on. The lecturers I had weren’t any help, they read from a PowerPoint and weren’t allowed to help us with work. They got fed up with me being so poorly and not being able to get in, they didn’t want to help me work from home by sending me work and due to having to “buzz in” every time I got on campus, I didn’t have the attendance score I needed to pass, even if my grades were good. Due to not getting the support I needed from the government, I was also unable to live in Southampton, so I had to drive an hour there and an hour back each day and due to my disabilities and pain, I couldn’t physically do this every day without the help from my uni and I wasn’t given that support. My mental health wasn’t supported either.
Amazing facilities for Arts and Sports, not so good for Business and law related courses! Many industry links to fashion, sports, arts... but for the others ones is pretty poor.
Best facilities and equipment for your chosen course
Amazing facilities when I was auditioning and looking for universities and Drama School I came here and was blown away by all the amazing facilities and so many things you can work with and network with that will help you as an actor or whatever course you are doing.
The university facilities blew me away I wanted to go to drama school for years until I came to solent campus and saw how amazing all the facilities were not just for acting!
Facilities are modern and staff are helpful
I joined Solent to study Media Production because of the amazing equipment facilities known as ‘the hatch’. I have recieved endless support from my lecturers and have had countless opportunities from Solent Creatives that has really helped me network, build my portfolio and experience amazing career opportunities.
Best university in terms of facilities, staff, the courses, location. Also one of the best in UK for sports courses
Where to begin the course I was on was so unsatisfactory and the course leaders were a joke, after running around in circles for three years we managed to get somewhere only after going to the OIA. I have advised multiple people about not going to solent merely because of it.
Very nice uni but Student Halls could be refreshed
It's a great place to develop yourself and your skills both as a person and as a professional.
Came here through clearing and have not regretted a moment of it
It’s great, but not a lot of international students so a lot of the locals already have friends of their own :) not the most friendly, quite lonely!

Need more parking / more healthy food options in the spark/ doc
I love Solent they are an all inclusive uni and provide so much help and guidance to all students. The services are amazing and I have a real love for it all. I’m in my final year and I’m so greatful to Solent for making me the person I am.
Very modern university with great facilities - especially on media-based courses. Some parts are a bit outdated and the SU isn't massive, but there are several different societies to join, not just sports teams. Variety of cafes and restaurants on campus, all reasonably cheap.
Modern facilities and educated lecturers
The facilities at Solent university are really good and I really like how they have started up the new ‘safe solent’ campaign to ensure that all students are safe on there way home from studying in the library
All universities lecturers I have been taught my have put in as much effort as possible in order to help me achieve to my highest standard
Frankly shocking, the lecturers are under qualified and don’t know their subject and have never been given any sort of teacher training. The facilities are terrible and they student hub is a joke
Good university if you do anything creative the equipment that’s available is amazing and the opportunity that are offered to you are like no other
It’s a great university in general, improving a bit more every day.
I've been at Solent for 2 years now and they provided me support ranging from career advice to helping sort out my student finance, switch course etc.
It’s just been an all round amazing experience, lovely lecturers, great facilities and nice people too
Good support from lecturers Great courses available New buildings great facilities
University is useless. The lecturers don't even know the subject they are teaching and any chance of passing comes from your own self learning.
I transferred here from a different University and I am so glad I did! The English BA degree is brilliant, the lecturers are extremely enthusiastic, inspiring, and supportive. The modules and course content is very varied and gives you a great expanse of knowledge. It has helped me develop as a person in many ways. If you want to study an English degree this is the place to do it!
A really good university, with a proper community feel. Coming to this university was one of the best decisions I made.
Great place to study, loved my time
Such a warm and friendly university
Friendly university that offers a wide range of support to students. Campus is relatively easy to get around.
University is allright overall. Only one nice building, the other ones are old and not attractive. Some lecturers and seminar tutors dont seem like they care about what you are taught. For how much the course is, you are not getting your money worth.
Really good up and coming Uni! Teaching has MASSIVELY improved also the services have.
University has high end facilities and plans to upgrade those that are behind
Good campus facilities. Brilliant Wi-Fi across campus. Student union is okay, bring back the bar!
Fantastic hands on experience. Solent always make you sure the academic work relates to the working world!
University is a small and lovely university. Support from all lecturers and staff is incredible. Never felt so wanted in a university or anywhere before.
The staff are all friendly and it is a really nice atmosphere to be in. The social part is also really good.
I love Solent! Such friendly staff and help is always provided when needed!
The staff always seem to push me in the right direction. For example, with assignments I aim to link them to the automotive industry where I can because that's where I'd like to end up.
Fantastic! Would really recommend to anyone, particularly mature students
Pretty new so still finding it's feet but campus/equipment and courses and 'some of the lecturers are amazing. Very central too and halls are really decent/not too pricey
It’s a good uni but often makes students pay out of their own money for things such as use of the gym Their food which is outrageously priced printing
Nice and modern, but it’s very hard to find your way around! Especially in the student hub building
Terrible course, nothing goes right, lecture planning is non-existant. Lessons are a joke, current lecturer knows nothing about the subject he is teaching. Can't wait to leave and never come back.
I have never been a big fan of Southampton Solent University as they are one of the worst university’s in the United Kingdom, at one point being in the top three. Therefore I will just say it’s awful.
It's a roadside university and often seems like one.
Only con is that tutors are racists towards certain countries
The entire university from the sleek and modern campus, to the teachers, to the resources and equipment available is simply amazing. Solent felt like the right choice for me, and it’s worked out beautifully! I’m on track to recieving a first class honours and don’t think i could have done that if it wasn’t for Solent!
Small City but large amount of students and always plenty to do. And all the teachers I had minus one have been 10/10
Solent University has formed an excellent department called Solent Futures which aids all students in employability, as well as interview preparation, guidance on CV’s and any further information required. The team work really hard and are fully committed to increasing student job prospects and employability. The university has a great range of faciliitys that specialise for specific courses.
Recently refurbished with several new brand buildings. Amazing and supportive staff, excellent teaching facilities. Bring on second year in September.
Very friendly and quite helpful lectures.
Lectures and seminars are delivered in a fun and interesting way, contact time with lecturers is good. Definitely getting a good quality of education.
Great city centre location . Fantastic facilities. Shame about the lack of support for students in all aspects - welfare, careers, ect.
The teaching and facilities are excellent but everything to do with the students union could be improved a lot from the societies to the actual SU building.
My course at this university has been diabolical, no guidance, no teaching and I am not ready to work in my field.
I've just finished my first year, and I've never felt more helped than I have here. The lecturers go out of their way to help and are available to contact whenever you need them.
Amazing spaces and campus, great staff and lots to do
Really great uni espically the careers and solent future. There's a lot of help around the uni and support for the students
Since I first started studying at Solent (2 years ago) I've had a great experience. The facilities for photography and film are exceptional and all the staff is incredibly kind.
The campus was well presented and easy to navigate. However I didn't have a good experience with the staff as they seemed disinterested in me when I started struggling with personal issues. I ended up leaving in my first term of my first year. The university is good if you want to focus on sports... Its an extremely sports orientated University. It seems like most funding goes into sports related curriculum rather than equally spread across all subject areas.
Great campus, WiFi on campus is really good however uni halls WiFi is touch and go, often not working or being slow.
Graduating next month. Couldn't be happier with the outcome of my degree. Impressed by the support given to students regarding employability and CV help. Lots of opportunities to gain professional work experience here and the careers advisors know their stuff. Didn't use the students union much as it's a city uni and there's loads to do near by.
I study Business Economics at Solent and will graduate in July with First Class Honours, having started the course without any A-levels or equivalent. Harjinder Virdee (course leader) is a fantastic lecturer and so are many of his colleagues, all of whom operate with an open door policy and are easy to contact. With regards to societies, I have been a member of several but finally settled with rugby. I cannot emphasise enough what a brilliant decision it is to join a society while at university. Weekly socials (minimum), annual tour, good training facilities, cheap gym membership, free use of physios, character building, etc... Ultimately, you will get as much out of university as you put in!
Southampton is not a town for the faint hearted - I would have felt safer walking the streets of London alone of a night time. The halls themselves are beyond appalling - not very spacious and terribly maintained, always an aroma of urine and plant of molly around. The surrounded students are noisy and inconsiderate. The distance from a lot of the halls to the main buildings are painfully long, and not worth your time. Do not go to Solent.
Perfect place to go if you want to ruin your career, self-esteem and life in general. The university is astonishingly bad, I ignored the university rankings when applying, but apparently they were right. The standard for teaching is appalling, they can only teach the basics. They have the cheapest facilities they can find, they lie about having some other facilities because they forget to tell you that they don't have the software for them and no one knows how to properly put them to good use.
Unbelievably disorganised, lots of lectures cancelled for no reason. Lecturers generally uninterested, go elswhere if you can.
Fashion Design course was terrible, and the tutors did not support me, the stress caused mental health problems.
I had a great time and experience. The Uni staff member is really helpful and will go for the extra mile. They got a good stander of quality education. Simply, it this university that you learn from, you has fun, meet good people and build your career.
