What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Good place, already lived for two years
I have lived here for just about 3 years now and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
It’s a very nice place, I’m very glad to live there, me and my friends we spent very lovely time here.

Fantastic for student accommodation! The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help. Any issues are normally solved quickly and the facilities/social spaces at Cumberland Place are great. The only issue I found with this student accommodation was that the rooms were not cleaned very thoroughly upon arrival so I had to deep-clean the space myself. Despite this, the communal areas are always kept quite clean and I have had no other issues since.
The administrators are great! There are many interesting activities! I like Cumberland very much！

During covid, the cleaning should have been more up to par to include sanitization in all public spaces. The common areas have just opened up on May 17th and the property management have taken away the table tennis table in the lobby common space. The space was limited during the lockdown but was completely taken away from residents without warning or reasoning.
I like the decoration design of the room very much! There is a French window and a couch in the room. It is very comfortable. The staff at Reception are very friendly and responsible. The disadvantage is that the heating is not very hot and the room is a little bit small.

Room 414 I just arrived at the accommodation a couple days before and I am self-isolation now. The service before I came and theses days are wonderful! The reception will put all my parcels in front of my door and knock my door. The WiFi and kitchen items are both good. The size of bed also enough and comfortable for me.
The Cumberland Place is a very beautiful apartment. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I can easily see the sea. The scenery outside the window is beautiful, which makes me feel good every day. The location of the apartment is very good, this apartment is located in the center of Southampton, which allows me to easily reach various places in Southampton. There are many stores and restaurants near Cumberland Place, and there is a park downstairs. The staffs in the apartment are also very friendly and welcoming, which made me feel at ease when I came to Southampton for the first time. All in all, I like and highly recommend the Cumberland Place.
Great place, I have been here for half a year so far and feel that every aspect of this apartment is great. The staff here are very friendly, they help me collect the parcels and letters, I think this is very important for a student. In addition, they often provide snacks and organize activities according to local festivals or holidays, so that I can better understand the culture here. The facilities and location of the apartment are also great, I think Cumberland Place is the right choice.
During the week, the receptionists are helpful, even during my self isolation. Although during the weekend, especially Sunday, no one there is in the reception for help or receive parcel. I was in my room for self isolation (due to covid rules), I was also doing an important personal thing, I had to stop it because the delivery guy called me and there was no one in the reception to receive it. I think this is not acceptable because I also feel insecure due to this absence in the reception. Everyone can enter randomly without problem.
By far the best place to have spent a year. The staff are super friendly and approachable, location is perfect in the city centre, and a short bus ride to University. Lots of social activities and alternatives offered even in a pandemic year. Great place to live!
I have recently moved to Cumberland Place Southampton and I recommend anyone looking for student accommodations to move in here as it is in the most convenient location, has fabulous facilities and building staff are very kind and helpful.
The staff at Cumberland Place are very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect very close to shops, supermarkets, the station, green spaces, restaurants, pubs and clubs making it very efficient to go anywhere. The building has great facilities such as the gym and the 10th floor spaces. I really like living here and believe Cumberland Place is good value for money
Friendly, welcoming staff. Excellent comfortable rooms with plenty of storage. Great facilities and lovely views. My two years here have been great, and I’m pleased I chose this accommodation!
Covid-19: As an NHS employee they have supported my needs when asked. No updates from them, would be nice to hear more, however, a delicate balance between to many and non needs to be found, other groups are to over zealous. For example, I wonder how many in the building know the name of the new building manager.
