Great campus, WiFi on campus is really good however uni halls WiFi is touch and go, often not working or being slow.
Graduating next month. Couldn't be happier with the outcome of my degree. Impressed by the support given to students regarding employability and CV help. Lots of opportunities to gain professional work experience here and the careers advisors know their stuff. Didn't use the students union much as it's a city uni and there's loads to do near by.
I study Business Economics at Solent and will graduate in July with First Class Honours, having started the course without any A-levels or equivalent. Harjinder Virdee (course leader) is a fantastic lecturer and so are many of his colleagues, all of whom operate with an open door policy and are easy to contact. With regards to societies, I have been a member of several but finally settled with rugby. I cannot emphasise enough what a brilliant decision it is to join a society while at university. Weekly socials (minimum), annual tour, good training facilities, cheap gym membership, free use of physios, character building, etc... Ultimately, you will get as much out of university as you put in!
Southampton is not a town for the faint hearted - I would have felt safer walking the streets of London alone of a night time. The halls themselves are beyond appalling - not very spacious and terribly maintained, always an aroma of urine and plant of molly around. The surrounded students are noisy and inconsiderate. The distance from a lot of the halls to the main buildings are painfully long, and not worth your time. Do not go to Solent.
Perfect place to go if you want to ruin your career, self-esteem and life in general. The university is astonishingly bad, I ignored the university rankings when applying, but apparently they were right. The standard for teaching is appalling, they can only teach the basics. They have the cheapest facilities they can find, they lie about having some other facilities because they forget to tell you that they don't have the software for them and no one knows how to properly put them to good use.
Unbelievably disorganised, lots of lectures cancelled for no reason. Lecturers generally uninterested, go elswhere if you can.
Fashion Design course was terrible, and the tutors did not support me, the stress caused mental health problems.
I had a great time and experience. The Uni staff member is really helpful and will go for the extra mile. They got a good stander of quality education. Simply, it this university that you learn from, you has fun, meet good people and build your career.
The teaching and organisation in this uni is beyond horrible, and accomplished in the bare minimum way, 3/5 of the lecturers I currently have are awful, making the subjects either seriously uninteresting, or a joke in itself. I wouldn't recommend coming here to any other student, save yourself from the stress of the disorganised lecturers, who make no effort in helping or getting to know their students.
Absolutely appalling. Would I waste my time here? No way. They don't care about the students just that you are a number with £££ after it and don't you forget it! People can be friendly but you are shafted from pillar to post. This uni couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery even given the starting pint.
Great nightlife, range of clubs and societies!
Faultless apart from the poor SU - the Uni itself deserves all the credit it can get, and by the Uni, I mean lecturers, not the management as they're business men who have no clue
wifi cuts here and there the facilities are amazing and really worth it
Very good wifi, societies are very limited compared to other universities
Very good university and residences better than expected
Good university for having industry links as the lecturers come from their respective fields, so their knowledge is first class.
Great Uni, everyone is friendly and the facilities are incredible.
Great campus, sunny city, really cool to study there!
The campus is in a great location, just 5 minutes walk from the high street and West Quay. The Union is amazing, serving up some of the best food i've eaten. I've yet to dip my foot into the realm of societies, though.
Nice uni unorganised at times mix culture
I am in my second year at Solent and I love it!
The reputation Solent has is completely unjust. University ranking tables are unfairly judged and should be abolished. Solent is great for those who are interested in creative sectors. The campus itself is modern and yet fairly easy to get around. There are numerous societies and clubs to join which, like all universities, enable you to meet new people with similar interests as you! The Students Union is on hand for literally everything. Whether it be a small worry or something completely out of your control, they'll always be there to help you and give advice. The opportunities given by Solent are second to none, given that you're working with professionals on a standard daily basis (my course leader used to work for the BBC) and many courses offer you the chance to work with people in the relevant industries, give you the opportunity to go on numerous trips and even a chance to study abroad.
Great place, okay uni. Love my course, but the whole university is a bit lacklustre
It's pretty decent the internet is flawless like the worldly I saw at Yates one Thursday evening.
The Uni itself is great and very morden and industry focused how the only down side is the price of uni in general. I stayed in LFW and it was the worse experience of my life and want to move out the next day but was not able to. the room was okay however I could never sell music was playing until 4am and it was just scary at time that I would barricade my door.
Great uni! I've loved my experience so far, it has everything that you could possibly need, whilst being in the centre of town and super close to everything. Added to how friendly everyone is, it's a great uni!
Photography area is pretty good :)
A modern style university of 10 years with an unreal night life.
The university is well maintained and easily accessible from the main transport links, it is well linked with many industries. Though the Student's Union has a nice bar and cafeteria, it is vastly underfunded and very poorly maintained, through large financial cuts over the past few years, leaving clubs and societies high and dry, struggling to maintain themselves.
I thought it was Uni Of when I arranged the open day, I didnt make it into my first choice and ended up at Solent and good god how I hate it. Terrible university, s*** learning resources and unenthusiastic lecturers. Kimber halls were expensive as hell and were s*** to live in also, thanks Solent, thank you so much.
Simply useless university, don't waste your time
Despite Southampton solents poor ratings in comparison to other universities. It's a quite good university as the staff are very helpful and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure student satisfaction. The local surroundings are very good easily as there is easy accesibility to shopping outlets and leisure centres nearby, and the nightlife is exceptionally good as there is a variety of places to go dotted around Southampton. The oppurtunites for career progression is very good as external businesses are always coming into the university for conferences. Staff are always encouraging students to partake in activities related to career progression and also external activities related to charital organisations. However Solent university is currently undergoing construction in some areas I.e. halls of residence and new building departments.
Great university with a great social vibe. All staff are friendly and helpful.
