Very good campus and facilities but not enough social life. Careers service is terrible.
Lancaster has a beautiful campus, definitely feels like you live in a bubble but I personally love that. I’ve had issues with my course from time to time but nothing major generally. The internet is generally great! Lots of different clubs and societies to join (I wish I’d joined more). However the students union is awful, they’re not central to uni life as they are at other unis. But to be honest we have the collegiate system which I think is better because you feel like part of a family of people you can speak to. It’s really nice. I’m just about to finish my degree and I’d still choose Lancaster again.
Not enough clubs and societies, also sports societies often ask for only advanced or professional players meaning you can't always be part of a sports team unless you have been before. The Student's Union has its priorities wrong and honestly you don't see much of them - they took away Bailrigg FM's broadcasting license despite infintie other solutions to the budget problem and many arguments against it which is stupid too. Also South West Campus loses wifi between Grizedale and Cartmel which is annoying.
The campus is very pretty but the accommodation is pretty old, lots of money should be put in fixing accommodations and I feel like they haven't done that. The ducks are amazing and the uni has a very good welfare service and nice library with a tree.
I love it hear, no matter what happens to me I will never regret coming to this uni.
The university has such a great atmosphere. The design is lovely and everyone is so friendly. The teaching is excellent and so is the accommodation
The physics department is one of the highest ranked in the country but has some of the worst lecturers you can imagine. The students Union is also one of the most poorly run organisations I've ever seen
Great variety of societies. The university is in a small town but that makes everyone more united and it is easily to make friends.
Beautiful campus, with good facilities & offering amazing degrees and opportunities
- Shops are overpriced - Internet/WiFi is unreliable - Phone signal only works in certain areas - Under-developed - Accommodation staff are unpleasant - You’re charge for any damage which is not “reasonable wear and tear” but as that is subjective, you’re charged for the damage 99.9% of the time - Lecturers are slow to respond to emails, sometimes they never reply - Always some form of maintenance being carried out around campus - Lack of a sense of community And that’s just a few things
Lancaster really isn’t what it makes out to be their support services are atrocious and is one of my reasons I decided to leave. There facilities are good I will give them that benefit but their housing is awful. Students regularly smoke in the buildings and no support is given to students in difficult financial situations because they have dual parent families. Just because you have two parents does not mean you have total financial support. Lecturers care more about their research, also, rather than helping the students learn, and although university is your own responsibility to pass, they do not provide adequate resources to aid this.
Amazing great college is wonderful
The university does not care about you or the fact that you pay for a service unless you study a STEM subject. I wish I'd never gone to Lancaster University.
Choosing Lancaster University was the best decision I could have made. I study Accounting and Finance (Industry). I just secured a placement at Microsoft on their Business Operations Intern role. Lancaster University have equipped me through incredible teaching staff and their award-winning careers team! I highly recommend it for anyone who will study a subject from the Management School.
Having moved to Warwick Uni i have realised how great Lancaster was as a university. Miss it <3
Excellent uni, tonnes of great facilities, societies, and quality acoustic music events going on in the city like the Water Witch Open Mic or Sofar Sounds Lancaster.
The university offers wide range of facilities and activities. The campus itself created small city that fulfills basic needs of students’ life
campus is good, modules aren't
Beautiful campus, been a fun experience, lack of clubs in town though
It an amazing university. The majority of people are really nice and the staff is always useful.
Its a pretty good place to live, learn and make friends
Night life needs serious improvements
Non existent student union, only hear from them when they’re cutting the budget of something. Lovely campus, shame it’s always under construction. Maybe if they put the money into mental health services or student facilities instead of vanity projects they’d be ranked higher.
Best year of my life spent at Lancaster University
Good university vibe going on throughout campus, very nature-y. Decent night life (unless you’re used to the nightlife of a big city). Students union is pretty shocking but the societies that exist are very extensive, virtually all societies you could think of exist! Staff generally helpful, some more than others and very good careers service from my experience. WiFi is top notch
Love it here it’s so friendly and the courses are amazing
A lovely campus with everything you need. The college system makes freshers week much more accessible compared to other universities and the careers service/employment service is amazing for gaining well paid, part time jobs. Nice distance from the town centre too!
Its an incredible learning environment with an incredible social side ! Lancaster University feels like home
Forced college system which for someone not interested just tries to get money for membership. You pay 9k still gotta pay for the gym membership. Student union is just a kiosk for buss passes at the beginning of the term with 1hour + lines to get one.
Fantastic experience, lovely campus and helpful lecturers
Overall a fantastic university. Only major improvement would be the efficiency and communication with the Student Union - doesn’t seem to contribute a lot to University life when there is the college system.
the only good thing about this uni is the wifi, otherwise trash
A self-contained concrete jungle. You have everything you need on campus but it is ugly and depressing
The best experience for a university undergraduate student
Whole heartedly satisfied with Lancaster University! Wouldnt change a thing.
Lancaster University campus is its own town. Amazing feeling and vibe. Beautiful views.
I wasn’t sure which Uni to pick, but I definitely picked the right one. Chilled environment to be in, nice accommodation, lectures interesting and good night life.
Lancaster university is simply the best!!!
Really good university experience. My department and course is really good, as well as the university being a very homely, friendly, vibrant community.
Like a s*** village separated off from an even worse town that calls itself a city. Very depressing and dull.
So far, unis been great. My only issue is how many of my teachers can't actually speak proper English to the extent that it makes me worried over how well they are able to mark my work ...
Can experience best campus life and studies
Excellent support from all staff. Excellent facilities
Very good University, Management school have really good links with employers and constantly have them coming in to give us insights
Amazing campus with something for everyone all the time
Having begun my master's at the University of Manchester I can honestly say, I see now why Lancaster university is top ten. The quality of teaching there is second to none, and while campus or the town may be an unusual situation, you can easily make the most of clubs, societies and your college to make sure your social life is great. Well above UoM and worth 9,000 a year unlike others.
Inclusive campus, nothing further than 5 minute walk. Caters for all races, religions and gender.
The ducks are amazing and scenery is beautiful
Once apon a time somewhere in a cold abyss with a university sprouted and this university would go on to have a careers service which check throw everyones application before they where sent off
Most friendly and beautiful campus
Everyone is incredibly helpful and there is a real close community feeling in the colleges
Best uni ever but the spine is annoying
Great uni - very friendly with excellent facilities
From the moment I stepped foot on campus I knew it was the place for me. Everyone is welcoming, the campus is safe and tidy and the number of societies available is second to none. I loved my time at Lancaster!
Excellent facilities, outstanding teaching and great people everywhere
Loved my time at this university. Campus based and collegiate are it’s two bigggest selling point.
A “” good uni “” according to chancellor haha
A great campus for living away from home for the first time - feels safe and welcoming. Study abroad options at Lancaster are also fantastic. Teaching staff in LEC are friendly, approachable and happy to tell you more about their course and their research projects. There are plenty of societies to join as well as collegiate sports teams, so everyone has an opportunity for some kind of out-of-academics fun and socialising.
So many services for students to develop their career.
The first few terms were quite difficult however I soon got to love the campus and be grateful of how readily accessible everything is, and the community atmosphere that the university exerts.
My time at Lancaster so far has been great. I've been able to get involved in multiple activities and have been given some amazing opportunities to find out more about my career goals. The society I joined, I didn't really like as I found it to be too competitive and I just wanted something to keep up my fitness as I had just recently quit competing in it and didn't want to go back to doing that again. I believe that all sports teams at Lancaster are like this though. Lastly, the facilities at Lancaster could be improved, with more space/seating being created in the library or signage to tell people if their bags have been left unattended for 30 mins+, they will be removed as that is unfair on other students.
Academic staff very rude, especially in respect to the basic level of tuition fee that a student is paying; Many times I have asked questions just to receive a more ambiguous and confusing answer (wide range going from a simple workshop tutor to the Academic tutor of my department); Many lecturers speak poor English and pretend that recycled slides from previous years give you basic understanding about modules, while in truth they are barely understandable and readable (yes readable!!); Campus facilities like lecture theatre and library are fantastic, as for campus accommodation they are very small rooms and most of them they were built a long time ago, you can’t open windows completely for “security reasons” but the real truth is that unfortunately there is at least one case of suicide and “nobody” knows why...
An excellent university, great campus, good ambience. The only thing that could be improved would be internet conection
It's amazing, great campus, great colleges and great people.
I love being at Lancaster, it makes me feel welcome and the lecturers are so kind and helpful.
Great to study here. The campus is amazing, however the town is a bit too depressing and there aren’t many things to do.
Full of scaffolding and building works every day. Been reconstructing campus from the 1900s
Quality uni, campus can be a bit dead sometimes but overall a 4/5 experience - main problem is that the student union are too soft and easily swayed by socialist mentalities GROW UP x
Its fast growing university and has high quality of teaching.
Brilliant experience; great teaching, good social life and perfect accommodation
Lancaster is a great university that offers a range of things to make the uni experience great.
Lancaster is a really modern university, with lots of facilities, activities and societies. The nights out are the absolute best, as well as the people here. It also has an excellent gym and an incredible library which is open 24/7.
Hope you don’t want to walk anywhere fast! Thanks to construction everywhere that’s planned to last for years and will probably go unfinished, you’ll have to divert every journey and I can tell you now your seminar tutors will NOT be understanding.
Very good university and very much recommend
The Law Department should consider filming the lecturers and putting them on to Moodle. All the people I know who attend other Universities have this feature available, and they believe it really helps them when trying to understand the topic as they can go back and watch the lecture.
The most noisy campus in the world w most slacky and not caring lecturers and uni staff
Best uni experience you could get, couldn't have picked a better uni
DESIGN THE SPINE IS THE WORST THING TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED TO THIS UNIVERSITY xx
I really enjoyed my time at Lancaster. I loved that everything you needed was on campus and that it felt like a proper little community.
Phenomenal, inspirational, life changing
Lancaster reminds me of home- the good and the bad. It rains a lot (imagine torrential) but in the summer the bad weather is replaced by glorious sunshine and barbecues. Similar to home, the wifi is... well, not ideal, though it tends to be fairly fast within the accommodation, just don't try facetiming while walking around campus! The societies tend to be well run and they create a distinct sense of family when you're really missing yours. The campus seamlessly blends urban and rural living, from the bustle of Thursday's market in Alexandra Square, to the quiet serenity of the woodland trail (with a mountain bike route!) Lancaster's social spaces (i.e. the bars and common rooms of each college) each have a different personality meaning that there's something for everyone (you can go into a college's bar or common room even if you aren't part of the college). All in all, I'm happy I chose Lancaster as my university, everyone here is lovely and I would recommend it to anyone!
Students union very incompetent Take weeks to do a day's work Very politically bias Institution against free speech
Excellent bioscience department and facilities
Excellent University with great support system. Highly recommended to everyone. Definetely great value for money
The student union are awful. Suppress free speech and forward their left wing agenda. They under fund sports teams and over find obscure societies. The sports facilities and sports administration are woefully poor for a top uni which they clearly aspire to be. Eduroam is cancer.
The university spends money on unnecessary things such as a redevelopment of a walkway to include fountains, rather than putting money into areas that matter. There is little to no help available to students, essentially they spend more money on making themselves look good than actually focusing on the essentials for a university, such as contact time.
Had an amazing experience and learned so many things. My only problem is it can be a little tricky to connect to the wifi. Food on campus is great, and it's so safe.
Beautiful campus, with helpful staff and lots of ducks
Fantastic university, all the things I could’ve asked for, the quality of teaching and content is great and the facilities and extracurricular activities are second to none.
Had an amazing time here, full of wonderful people.
Really positive experience for 5 years, very supportive staff.
The students union is a joke, it's nightclub is even more laughable. The campus atmosphere is one of absolute political correctness and classes are not a space for sharing or discussing alternative ideas to those of the mob. Great facilities although the construction work on the main routes across campus are still ongoing after 2 years. Campus wide WiFi is great and there is a fairly large selection of societies and groups as well as intercollegiate competitions. The college system can be a mixed bag, certain colleges and their JCR are an extension of the students union - i.e. pathetic. Avoid Bowland like the plague.
Amazing university, with all the support needed
Campus will be a building site for your 3 years at the University. Students Union can't do much because their skint but they have top Wifi
Love if here. It's in a cheap location. The campus is really pretty. And the quality of the degrees are set high in the management school
It's very good, as a first year I felt in love with Lancaster uni
The clubs and societies are amazingly wide ranging. However the student union take too long to respond to students queries, are poorly organised and uncooperative, to the extent that a charity run was cancelled due to lack of cooperation from the union. Students additionally had to organise their own grad ball as the union didn't create one that was value for money
Awesome freshers, good mates, chill life
The best university in England!
Just an overall good uni, highly supportive and friendly to the students and always keeps you in check
