During COVID we've spent a lot of time in the flat and never really had an issue. Always good hot water, decent showers, clean and good rooms (we are standard) and very good WiFi other than the kitchen. Our kitchen is also pretty small but the social scene of Furness is pretty good and close-knit. Porters / Maintenance will get things sorted quickly. Just wish we had a decent lounge area. Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Great room but not very big cleaners are useless and no sofa or tv

Furness ghetto is a great place to spend your time as a fresher.
RELLY RELLY VERY ULTRA GOOD TIMES big yes
No opinion I have never been in the facility as they do not seem to provide anything apart from housing and compulsory membership
Not bad not bad .......................................................................................................
Superior ensuite is ideal and recently refurbished. Very modern.
Stayed here for two years, had a great time.
Great location, quiet college, perfect for people who are there to study.
Uni is basically divided into 8 different colleges and Furness is where you want to be! Its the smallest of them all so you definitely are gonna be close with some of them and its in the centre of campus so you don’t really need to walk long distances to any of your lectures
Really great community and for a standard room, it served its purpose. Great cosy feel and the College is ideally siutauted in the middle of the campus
Good community feel. Well located. Clean accommodation. Any issues sorted very quickly.
Ghetto is good for money but not big groups in flat so less likely to find a friend for life in your flat
In a standard room with shared shower and toilet. Facilities good if you don't mind sharing. Dodgy internet and small flat. Socialising is difficult with only a kitchen and small table. Would definitely recommend upgrading to an en-suite or townhouse
Great atmosphere, loved the people, £100 a week a little steep, but what do you expect on campus?
Furness Is love, furness is life
Furness has the best location on campus. It is close to like almost everything. Though the only problem I have with the accommodation is the wifi that works well at times but other times very annoying.
Perfectly located in the middle of the univeristy
Really enjoyable experience in Furness College. A great atmosphere, good internet and superb accommodation!!! Also, Trev is a great place to relax, with really enjoyable events!!
Not at all value for money Rent should include a dishwasher and washing machine as well as a common sofa area with a TV Location is great which is the only plus point and it's small so good community spirit
Furness is amazing. Everywhere else is nowhere
Excellent location, rooms are great, cleaners do a decent enough job, not really any social spaces except for one bar though. The WiFi also isn't great but that's all around campus.
Really nice atmosphere in a great location.
Best location on campus and is a really friendly college
Everything is a 2mins walk away!
I'm in Greenodd which is shared flat of 4 for the kitchen toilet and shower. Our own bedrooms are great in terms of floor spacing. Desk is reasonable size. Kitchen a bit small but we are only 4 of us here. Its quite expensive at £100 a week but the other halls were more expensive. It's conveniently located on campus such that I could get anywhere within 10mins. Wifi/internet is a bit questionable, sometimes goes unstable
The most social college ever. And in a great location, close to everything, not like county or cartmel
Was great. close to lectures theatres, although the M6 did get very annoying late at night. wifi occasionally could go down , but never for long.
It is a great location for geting anywhere on campus. The halls are all clean and can provide great socialising oppurtunities.
Great location, but only 4 people per flat is ridiculous
Great halls, super friendly and best one in the uni.
There are so many issues with the room.
Furness College is the best college at Lancaster university by far! It's the most active, it's smallest college which also gives us pride in being the college with the best community. Furness is looked to as an example of how other colleges should run.
Very convenient, lovely atmosphere.
Best location in the University and easy to make friends. I really miss Furness!
Kitchen is our common room. :'( But that is same in almos tall of the other colleges.
I lived in the Furness ghetto with four people in a flat (mixed). It was amazing... Lots of parties as a college as well.
Furness was great. Worth going for the shared bathroom unless you are desperate for your own. Great kitchens and the college is a good way of making friends.
Fantastic location and people. Lack of social space other than hard kitchen chairs.
a little tired and old now on the outside but inside its been refurbished and done up. All it lacks is a decent sized living room
Great small community college in centre of campus, competitive in drinking and sports! All welcome here x
brilliant location, close to everything including the spar supermarket. Our ensuite's are also brilliant
Great location and great facilities, but it's quite expensive. Suppose you have to pay more to get the best!
Best experience everrr being a Furness member! I actually really miss this place !
Great location on campus, especially for when you have one hour breaks between lectures. Small college so easy to make many friends. Generally fairly quiet and little disruptions to sleep and especially during exam period.
Brilliant central location, great size room and ensuite and large kitchen area.
Great accommodation, just far too much money, typical of the Uni though so...
Great community feel, best college ever!
Being in Furness College meant I was immediately immersed in making friends due to its small but powerful nature
A great college in the best location on campus. A 2 minute walk from spa, sultans, lusu shop and the centre of campus with all the main lecture halls. The college bar has a great atmosphere with lots of cheap drink deals, with the common room next door for games of pool/watching TV etc with friends
