Amazing university, with all the support needed
Campus will be a building site for your 3 years at the University. Students Union can't do much because their skint but they have top Wifi
Love if here. It's in a cheap location. The campus is really pretty. And the quality of the degrees are set high in the management school
It's very good, as a first year I felt in love with Lancaster uni
The clubs and societies are amazingly wide ranging. However the student union take too long to respond to students queries, are poorly organised and uncooperative, to the extent that a charity run was cancelled due to lack of cooperation from the union. Students additionally had to organise their own grad ball as the union didn't create one that was value for money
Awesome freshers, good mates, chill life
The best university in England!
Just an overall good uni, highly supportive and friendly to the students and always keeps you in check
No idea how Lancaster came to be a top 10 University. Awful teaching, piss poor co-ordination between faculties, no vibe of being a place of intellect.
Overall poor, little to no social aspect and campus was a horrible place to live. Felt secluded and left out most of the time
Safe and friendly, quieter than most places
LUSU isn't great but Roses is awesome !
Profit orientated. Management school courses are totally bs I learnt nothing in 3 years genuinely nothing
The most suited place for me. There’s always things being run by LUSU and they hold loads of de stress events in Alex Square during exam season.
Lancaster University is a great University with a lot of facilities
If the money the uni was given was equally distributed between courses based on how many people did the course my experience would have been much better. Art students pay £1.2 million to the uni and still end up spending on average £200 a term of their own money for resources because the uni provides literally nothing - not paper, pencils, sketchbooks, nothing. And yet physics and chemistry and other STEM or Management School majors get all their lectures, textbooks etc included and FREE PRINTING. Shocking.
Campus is currently a building site which is very unattractive and inconvenient when we are not updated about diversions. It is quite frustrating as well to see the priority of a medical campus section when the spine is still not complete and the spine attempting to be completed in exam period! The student's union is a joke, they have has to cancel grad ball due to the backlash from students about the poor quality of the ball. They make life more difficult for students societies and seem like a waste of time tbh. On the other hand there are loads of careers services that can help such as cv writing practice interviews and they are always posting jobs and sending emails. There are tons of clubs and societies for everyone to get involved with and obviously you can start your own if you would like a new society. Eduroam has improved since my first year at uni and they are investing more into the campus Wi-Fi.
The lecturers aren’t that great(especially for mathematics), give you no study break to revise for 13+ exams and also make you do courses you have no interest in. The library is always overcrowded so there are no study spaces unless you get there really early.
Good for learning but nothing to do here
So far I’ve been having an amazing first year at Lancaster Uni!
From the collegiate system, to how natural the campus feels; you are guaranteed to find a home away from home.
Lancaster campus is beautiful, definitely the best part of the uni! However, I have no idea how this is “university of the year” what with the constant building work which has been disrupting lectures for over a year, and staff who care more about their research than their students
Do not regret my choice as it’s so lovely here. As in almost all uni’s there are some issues that should be solved asap, but still wouldn’t change it even if I could.
Spine still not finished and constant diversions. Student union fail at advertising and unwelcoming at times.
Lusu doesn’t stick up for students or support societies well. The university spends money on tv screens and poorly managed building work (they’ve dug up and replaced the same area 5 times now). But they refused to put Braille on their campus maps. Our tuition and rent has increased to fund the building works, yet the chancellor has a chauffeur and lives in a mansion. It feels like the bureaucratic side of the University is focused more on making money than on the happiness and welfare of its student body. That they are more interested in pleasing shareholders than creating dynamic education
Very bad experience here overall. The university is very self absorbed and only interested in generating a profit (largely at the expense of the students that go here e.g. through library and parking fines) standard of teaching Isn’t too bad when lecturers actually turn up. Housing system creates unnecessary and immature rivalry and mentality between students. Overall not a good experience here. Should definitely not be in the top 10!
Very poor quality of education. Lecturers not turning up on time sometimes not at all. Housing system creates immature and unnecessary rivalry between students. The university in general is very self absorbed and only interested in generating maximum profit (at the expense of students e.g. library fines and parking fines). Overall a very bad experience here.
I got here trough clearing and I believe it was destiny. Not a lot of people know about it because it is a quite young university (funded in 1959 if I'm not mistaken) but the fact that it is already in the top 10 UK universities says a lot. It is beautiful, with many beautiful buildings and stunning landscapes of green. There are an endless amount of clubs and societies which allow everyone to feel part of a community. We also have the #2 university wifi in the country. Amazing.
Exceptionl university with great studies in every business related subject. Rural campus with stunning nature and careers service that will help you to find a way in any career of your choice.
Subway and Go Burrito mean 5 stars
Great uni, teaching staff friendly, beautiful, calming campus
hashtag love lancaster, love a duck, love a social, and love crafty scholar. To the regiment. I WISH I WAS THERE
When it is a University again and not a construction site, only then should they expect higher reviews. If you want to live on campus, drop your expectations to average.
Lancaster univeristy is an excellent educational Institution
I love the uni itself but the nightlife is pretty repetitive with not much variety
A brilliant Uni to study and socialise in! 10/10 would rate again.
Lancaster University is an amazing place! From the campus and the facilities to the various diverse students and the amazingly helpful staff! Even the nightlife is pretty fun!! The students union is amazing and they actually listen to what students have to say. The University has something for everyone, so nobody ever feels left out. Overall, this university is definitely up there as one of the best universities in the UK! 10/10 would recommend Lancaster University to anyone!
Sock offs are easily the best part of university.
Great campus grey facilities WiFi could be improved and bloody hell the nightlife could do with another three club options dear god
Everything is on campus and easy to get to, people are usually very helpful with directions. Accommodation is great and my course is amazing.
I LOVE IT!! The teachers are amazing, the amount of support you get is unbelievable, they have so many departments dedicated to just help students with their mental health and everything you could possibly need help on!!!
An amazing university that offers everything you need. The standard across the board in every aspect is fantastic and I find it very hard to criticise the university.
Uni’s a great place to study and socialize. There might not be a lot of things you can do here but if your main goal is to make friends and get a great score from a top 10 UK uni then this is the place to go!
Good overall Vibe, everyone seems a bit too serious at times. Clubbing is rather awful there's literally 2 places you can end up and that is either sugarhouse or Dalton's and they're both either really busy or dead as a fly there's no in-between.
Ye it's pretty good if you like being in the middle of nowhere like I do. Feels more cosy.
Campus has everything you need to live and enjoy your time at uni.
Fantastic real all in one campus. Feels so safe but yet full of energy and lively, there's a club or society for everything and everyone. The university really put the work in to make sure the facilities are up to scratch and that we get all the help and support we need on our path to getting a job. So grateful to be part of this university.
Loved every minute - great people, great societies, great course. Can't imagine having gone anywhere else.
Some of the tutors are not very helpful and I find it hard to take much away from the workshops. I feel as if the economics course is too difficult for a lot of people, compared to other universities' economics modules Lancaster's is a whole level harder; the maths part especially which is almost impossible for people who have only done maths at GCSE. The shops on campus are not great for students regarding prices, but there is a nice range of shops / food places and things to do on campus. There is a lot of support set out for students such as the night line and The Base is known for being able to offer support. The library is very good and the learning zone are great places to study. However the Wi-Fi in some particular student rooms is not very good at all. Overall it is a nice environment yet I wish that the work given to students was more carefully considered - not everyone has entered uni as experts.
The Campus will be a lot better if ever the University stops with its poorly planned and never ending "Developments", but I don't think the Spine (the central walking route) will ever be fully open whilst I attend this University. Hopefully the planned new campus expansion will take the minds and money elsewhere, though goodness knows if that will be before 2030. The various societies vary massively in quality based almost totally on the students running said societies. The Philosophy Society is especially interesting for me though, as it takes a more serious look at various overarching issues rather than getting bogged down in the "Real World". The Students Union is a body with little real power, and essentially acts as another body of the University rather than the semi-autonomous representative body that it should be. Various schemes run by the Union are decent, but there is a total disconnect between the Union and the student body, which in turn discredits and weakens it.
Brilliant place, having the time of my life, I never want to leave. Work and social life is amazing.
The design the spine project is awful, it's hard to get anywhere as everything is constantly under construction. The campus is loud and busy because of this also. There is very little nightlife and things to do and the teachers offer very little help or advice, including career advice. The art facilities are little to none and some classes expect you to sit on a chair without a desk for lectures 3 hours long. The campus is incredibly welcoming and everyone is very nice however. It is very safe feeling and I've met some incredible people, the accommodation is great and the campus has lots of interesting shops. The library is nice and peaceful and the college system creates a sense of unity. You just have to find your own fun as the union is useless.
Excellent experience that I would highly recommend to any prospective student .
Lancaster has a really welcoming feeling campus. However, the 'Design the Spine' project causes much disruption. Many staff don't seem to prioritize the students or their work. Feedback is minimal, and lecturers unhelpful. Structures given are not stuck to, markers do not seem to follow guidelines, and mark differently from each other. Lecturers copy and paste from books online but don't reference the material. Academic tutors are not helpful and not matched with your degree discipline e.g. soil scientist with a human geography student. Get to see tutor for 10 minutes a term. Lecturers from same module contradict themselves. Handbook guidelines are not stuck too. Very few hours of contact time a week. Have 3 terms, third term is non-timetabled, i.e. 1/3 of the £9,250 for nothing. Etc. The uni itself is really nice, but tends to feel quite disorganized at times. Accommodation is nice but expensive for what you get, and is increasing i.e. first year prices have gone up around £400.
Having lived on the university campus for 2 years, I can honestly say I have enjoyed every second of of it... The accommodation is the best student accommodation I have ever seen - the on campus facilities are also second to none!
Great uni, good services and help available to students
The current works on campus makes it annoying and sometimes difficult to go between lectures. Having pathways and sections closed fully makes it very crowded and unpleasant.
It’s been a great experience, and there’s always someone available to help!
Great campus situated in a lovely area. The staff, in my experience, are very committed to their students and go above and beyond with the help they provide. Constantly being provided with opportunities to start/develop my career, and plenty of societies to keep everyone entertained.
The staffs are very helpful and considerate.
It’s a really modern and safe campus with a lot of new features being added to it each year.
A bit boring ngl, just a standard uni
As a first year student who lives off campus on campus facilities are limited
Great on-campus uni, has everything you need, could benefit from investment in a wider variety of nightlife and more stuff to do during the week. Student union is average
Decent facilities, mostly good teaching staff, let down by poorly planned and chaotic construction work.
Incredible university with lots of opportunities and a great academic reputation!
Has as many facilities and opportunities as near as possible. Large personal cost incurred to participate- any sports teams will be a cost of min £100 plus club fee. Brilliant careers- even separate for each school department can't do much else for you!
I love Lancaster - the campus and academic staff are fantastic.
It's been great! Smaller community than big city unis but it just means you know more people wherever you are.
Amazing university academically. Academic facilities are everything you could possibly wish for and an abundance of facilities on campus, I.e. Greggs, costa, etc. Many clubs and societies to get involved in. Not all to the highest standard, but depends what you’re wanting to achieve. Lovely peaceful friendly campus.
Brilliant educational facilities & teachers. Great respect commanded of any graduate with a good degree. Leftist political culture embedded within the institution & Union needs addressing for conservatives to feel welcome & not ostracised.
Easy to settle in. Very friendly
Great university with a homely feel
My experience has been one where the faculty staff and students mesh together, enjoy healthy debate and have an attitude of learning together. Some aspects such as the SU can be slow to respond to some issues but they do well to represent such a varied student body and group of societies.
Underrated experience, punches above it's weight. A better night out than the rest of the country. Cheap drinks, amazing facilities
Excellent uni, can't fault anything except the building works.
Amazing experience. Huge variety of opportunities to grasp both academically and through societies/socialising etc. Could not speak more positively about Lancaster Uni.
Lovely campus, friendly people, some really good societies and events going on. Not the best in the world for clubs but there is variety and they’re super cheap. I love it here.
Not worth the money you're paying
Lancaster university is a very tight knit and inclusive community that priorities student well being and makes sure no one is ever isolated.
Definitely would recommend this University, the whole experience is incredible - from the halls of residence, to the teaching and the social life, everything is good.
The best thing about this uni is its societies. There are many opportunities to be engaged in activities, from sports, to management school societies to a lego society.
Campus is great has most facilities I need, construction is too restrictive and consuming for students attending lectures and exams.
Fantastic campus and facilities. Smaller variety of nightlife compared to big cities, however Sugarhouse is always a good night filled with students.
Lancaster was amazing for all of the above. After a year out, I want to return for an MSc.
Internet is patchy across campus, the facilities are generally very good with plenty of bars and shops in case you need something last minute. Union is awful and the scope of the societies is very limited.
Cannot really fault the university if you're into campus unis. The one thing to keep in mind is that its not the largest campus and everything is close together. Take that as you will.
University needs more communication within itself.
Lancaster University is a fantastic place to live and learn. Off city campus makes it a much nicer area to study and breath. One of the only downsides is the continuous development of the spine, the main walkway up and down campus. However, this shouldn't affect new students as it should be completed. Additionally, the Students Union offers some good services, but I have some misgivings due to its red status for free speech. However, societies still continue to function as normal.
Clean campus, nice atmosphere. We have ducks as well.
I'm not sure what else you could want from a uni it's fab
Wifi is good. It's even at sugarhouse!! Clubs are fun
Great uni, the best and I've always wanted to come!
Good overall, not too much guidance in terms of careers afterwards, and employability courses mostly repeat what has been taught at school/college.
Amazing place to study, facilities are amazing, making learning easier
Very nice community feel on campus and each college has its own bar which is interesting. However there are almost no other entertainment faculties except bars, which is a huge shame.
Had an outstanding time so far, but some of the secondary facilities are so poor
Great facilities, great campus
Good choice of activities from societies, good student unions bar/club. Always trying to improve the uni which is good to see. Wifi coverage is fairly good, although I seem to get logged out quite often.
Lancaster University is a great university with so many opportunities, it is rather large in size but with individual colleges, students are able to feel like they're welcomed as part of a smaller community as well.
