Generally fine. The workload can be really heavy when assessment is coming, but it's OK as study is essentially not easy.
My experience in Lancaster University has been great.
Wonderful campus, helpful staff.
Happy to be here. Lancaster has a good public transportation system which connected with town and uni itself.
I visited St Leonard's House during the pandemic. The whole St. Leonard's team was super polite, nice and accommodating. They took care of each and every tenant. Also, special health measures were arranged to protect us from Covid-19. I felt safe and understood at all times. Furthermore, Nicky and Bonnie have been extremely helpful and I am very grateful. I can only recommend the St. Leonards to others.
The year ran fairly smoothly considering the pandemic
Going to Lancaster university was one of the best things I decided to do. The campus life is worth the experience and I love every bit of it
Some things about the uni are great like the gym and accommodation. Careers team is great. The nightlife is awfully dead , societies are poorly funded and managed by the SU. The collage system is only really relevant if you play sports, for most people the collage system doesnt really do anything. Saying all that very international but if your looking for a good uni experience do not come here, very dull overall.
very modern, classy fun accommodation best around! kindest manager and very inviting! a must!
Lancaster is not bad when it comes to rankings, and the campus is outstanding.
Great University. Amazing campus.
This uni ticks the boxes as well as any; good lecturing, good social life. Campus can feel like a bubble, students union can be overworked, scale of the uni makes things move slowly, but still a good place to spend 3-4 years.
It's good but not amazing. Some of the teaching and facilities felt very average for a 'top 10 uni'.
better for students to social but the living environment is not good cuz the facilities are old andliving in campus is not that convince for students to purchase daily using
Lancaster University is one of the top ranking universities in the world. The learning facilities are very excellent.
I am currently not living in the university's accommodation.
Amazing careers team and services. If you are going to university to get a career in a respectable industry, Lancaster University is definitely for you.
Lancaster university is a great university to both study and socialise just outside the city centre
Great Uni, just what I expected. Can't wait until we go back!!
Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else for my undergrad. The college system is truly unique and amazing. The best course I could have ever been on. No problems with internet. College sport is amazing. Class
It is the best place for the best students, nothing less.
I had such a lovely time at Lancaster. The students and staff were very nice and down to earth. I made very good friends there. The campus is fantastic, loads of space and so fun to explore, with good food and drink but also great study areas. The library is really lovely and convenient too. My course was well organised and interesting (physics) and support from lecturers is really good. My favourite thing about Lancaster is the proximity to the Lake District and I spent many happy weekends there with my friends, hiking, swimming and messing around. There are lots of nice areas round Lancaster too (forest of bowland, Lancaster canal, crook o' the lune, glasson dock. I liked Morecambe too! If you have a bike then it's really nice to explore. Living on campus is great, very convenient, comfortable, not too expensive and easy to make friends. The free bus to and from the SU nightclub is excellent if you are a cheapskate like me. There is a decent gym at the sports centre.
I am an international student did LLM International Law in Lancaster and it was a wonderful experience. I'm glad that I didn't go to another university.
Lancaster is absolutely tiny of a town with only 3 clubs and they’re all terrible Buses to town are outrageously expensive Campus shops are complete rip offs STUDENT UNION is absolutely s***, does nothing for us and charges you the have to pay 15 quid for the student discount “purple card” which just should be done with a library card for free.
Facilities are great and always being developed/improved. The Careers service provides a range of support that is well advertised. The students union makes some unpopular decisions and does not seem to be highly respected by many students.
Good wholesome tightnit uni with a great on campus society; neighbourhood and feel to the place
Awful university with zero care for their students. Poor organisation for every event. Departments couldn’t care less about student care or success.
Great campus and clearly the facilities have had investment but more prevalent issues are being ignored in favour of impressive facilities. E.g. a sports team culture that promotes bullying and cliques and certain academic departments that manage student workloads poorly in comparison to other similarly universities.
It's my first year here, doing a masters. The university made me feel very welcomed and it was easy to connect with people
Made me feel comfortable from day 1, there has not been a single day where I have been unhappy since moving to uni
Amazing uni! All round great experience, and Water Witch Open Mic every Wednesday night was ace.
It is a really good place. Nice accommodation. Nice learning atmosphere. It is one of the best school in United Kingdom.
I love it here at Lancaster, it’s really made me feel at home and I couldn’t ask for a better experience.
i dropped out of glasgow university and coming to lancaster has been the best thing for me!!
Lancaster University's "student well being services" gave me complex trauma that I still require therapy to even make sense of what happened to me. they are stopping renewing contracts for any non academic staff meaning a large increase in unemployed people in Lancaster is coming and all because they spent so much money on building work they can't afford to keep paying staff. If you ever have any legal based issue with the inner workings as a student better rush to a solicitor quick because you have less than 6 months to file a report or that sexual assault that happened? nah that's not real you are just delusional and experience flash backs to things that weren't even real. thanks Lancaster university you destroyed my mental health to the point where I am not fit for work.
Couldn’t have enjoyed university more. Amazing facilities, great campus and great staff
Accom is absolute s*** unless you're rich
Lancaster uni was incredibly unsupportive. 2 years of my time there the entire campus was under renovation which is still not complete, so every day we got to listen to the builders banging throughout the lectures. Lecturers often didn't turn up, seminars were badly led and no discussion was had, they were often silent and uncomfortable. Library space was like gold dust, parking spaces non existent, my Lancaster experience was awful.
Best University to broaden your understanding
Really inclusive atmosphere, mainly due to the colleges really taking care of their students. Highlight of each year is definitely roses! A bit of healthy competition and a whole lot of fun!!
Lovely campus with lots of things to do. The town centre is quiet, with only a couple of clubs but lots of bars and pubs.
Couldn’t have loved my time at Lancaster anymore ♥️
The student union is a joke, it never listens to the students and is just a money grabbing scheme. The campus and facilities are fairly nice, a lot of the staff are great with you bar the odd couple.
I love lancaster but only with sugar if they shut it they screwed x
So in my last year of uni i was really struggling. I went to a careers appointment and they basically said to go and look on some websites. I also had a referal appointment with the mental health services and they said i was quite high risk and would refer me to counselling and nothing ever happened, it felt a bit like they just told me to go on some anti depressants and go away
Loved the campus and the nightlife! The lecturers are so helpful. All the facilities are really useful and at a brilliant standard. Highly recommend!
Love it, it's a home from home
- Beautiful campus - nice green spaces - great linguistics department - terrible admin team, messed up my files every year - terrible system, don’t really care about the individual, despite being one of the smaller unis - small community - not many opportunities - great library - Worst student union - no student union building - town sucks - no clubs or life outside campus - really non diverse - difficult for POCs since lack of diversity
The recent plans to sell Sugarhouse, the only student nightclub is honestly disgusting from the union and a complete disregard for both students welfare and interests which is why I've given that a 1 star. Lancaster University however is an incredible uni and if Sugarhouse stays open I would 100% recommend it to all potential students.
A brilliant university that truly deserves its high ranking place in the UK university leagues. It’s campus is spectacular, full of everything needed and great transport links to the close city of Lancaster. Lancaster itself has further and easy links to further afield which is a great day out as a student - the Lakes, Blackpool, Edinburgh etc..
Wouldn't recommend to students living in as the campus is quite restricting in that everything is there on your doorstep. You don't really get the chance to explore Lancaster as a city. Library is fantastic.
The campus feel of the uni is brilliant and I enjoy my lectures. However the social side of the uni is poor. And with the unions decision to sell the Sugarhouse it's the final nail in the coffin for the university. Without Sugarhouse, the social side of the university is almost none existent. It's hard finding things to do when living in town.
Praise the lord this is one of the few universities with a collegiate system; the student union is virtually nonexistent, popping up occasionally with awful out of touch decisions. The strongest point on of the union is the nightclub they operate for uni students only, allowing for a safe place for fun and wacky costumes. Sadly, they have made the decision to sell the best night out in Lancaster (not a high bar but still) without consulting students properly or providing an alternative. The colleges are a wonderful aspect providing a sense of a close knit community in the first year, providing fun and services for important issues such as mental health. The biggest event of uni life are extravs, with each of the colleges student run teams creating different themes and competing to have the best end of year party. Most provide a brilliant or decent party, except Cartmel who like in every other aspect come last.
Would not recommend. You're just a number on the list who they make money off.
Very good! Joined many clubs and societies.
Friendly uni that when it is sunny looks beautiful.
Staff and student union try their best to tailor the university to success and a great experience
Great uni, don't like big cities so its perfect
Good secure campus. Plenty of help available for all physical, educations and emotional needs. Always things going on so you never really get bored
They only care about how they look outside, to be honest. They don't even know how to tackle racism, Shows you the state of the place, Also the career service clearly has no proper plan on helping you to get a job because they only follow a particular sheet that they are instructed to follow.
Awful staff at the top of the uni/SU ruin what is otherwise a great place to live and grow.
Internet was peng, I had nice toilets and showers for a non-ensuite accomodation.
Community feel , very welcoming and it’s a lot going on
Beautiful place. Probably not the place to go if you're someone dependent on counselling or think you'll need it. There's many experiences you could have with their mental health services but all I've been involved in and witnessed have been disrespectful and dismissive. Please consider this, it's a very isolated campus.
Worst university to attend as a student. No regards or support for students at all
A lovely environment, great library and really friendly staff and students. Lancaster has a really friendly environment due to the college based system and a really nice campus.
My feedback is for the engineering department and for Ph.D course. student. The worst department ever with the terrible head of department. He is using all the recourses in the lab and if you have lab work it is impossible to find a technician who is free.
extremely money focused, will pick at any opportunity to get money from students who cannot afford it.
Amazing uni, proud to be a student
Great university and campus. Student union could be improved in my opinion.
It is a good uni, but could work on helping international students not feel so alienated
The uni is great but the city isn’t
each year it kept getting worst
Everything is great but the students union
Lusu are useless and need to do things that help students and are not superficial. There is very little done that has an impact that can be felt. The inadequecies of the student union body far outstrip the postive works
Brilliant uni with excellent resources and staff
amazing campus with great facilities. lectures are very useful and supportive.
It’s a nice place, like a city within a city
Campus experience was great, Wi-fi went down constantly and was overtrafficked, the SU is notoriously poor and failed to deliver on a regular basis. In three years they didn’t successfully sell tickets without a server failure (no exaggeration). Clubs and societies are excellent but one had recent scandal for racist and homophobic messages on shirts.
It’s a really friendly university and the students are mostly lovely. The campus is very safe and well-lit at night. The nightlife isn’t great, but there is enough around town to have a good night. The careers service is incredible and you can use it even after you graduate. The only issue I’ve had personally is with certain lecturers who are unfair, but this obviously isn’t across the board.
Amazing campus with an excellent array of courses and subjects to delve in to!
Whilst the university has promise, constant building work along the main throughfare has been disruptive and an SU which refuses to properly combine with the collegiate system, work alongside it or replace/be replaced by it means that the student's needs are ignored by the SU in favour of flashy publicity moves. Many smaller interest societies are ignored by the SU and there is no reliable access to them. The university is excellent but the Union is pointless.
Lancaster University has top standard facilities coupled with a fantastic student support service, I love it here
The most amazing place, with the best atmosphere and people. A home away from home. The loveliest place to grow up
Everything is great, except the wifi in the accommodation, which is unstable
I have loved every second of being at the university and can’t wait to go back in October
Loved it here! The campus is great and there's lots to do if you look around.
Great atmosphere for a variety of international students
Very unhelpful staff across the board throughout the year. Lusu are unhelpful, counterproductive and very stubborn. In general the uni and student union only care about the rankings from the times and the money they make from students and campus businesses that charge insane prices for everything
Great university with the staff being very helpful. I have met some of t people here.
Great uni! Well-ranked courses
I’ve mostly enjoyed my first year, living on campus was ok and the accommodation was very good but found it quite noisy which impacted my sleep. I’m not impressed with the student union who shut down the uni radio for absolutely no reason, used the excuse of not being able to afford it and turned down the radios offer to become volunteer run. They take more students than they should so teaching hours are late and lots of people I know have exams of Saturdays.
Very modern campus, good facilities. Students Union is a bit controversial but the whole uni is a great place to be
Loved every second! Department is brill, friendly staff - very welcoming and helpful. Love the college system. Very homely like a community where you know everybody.
Really good careers service and system in place to benefit your future, campus is easily negotiable, plenty of societies and clubs, college system means anybody can be in a football or netball team without being uni quality, Students Union communication is quite weak but services are still very beneficial when you need them.
I love the uni amazing campus. The student union though is not the best when comparing to other unis. And clubbing has been not great too. There’s not enough options for people there’s only the occasional event that will be good. I feel like there should be more things to do. But I feel like Lancaster are working on this as slowly the city town is getting more and more new restaurants.
I love it here, constant renovations happening and new facilities all the time.
It’s got good facilities but the teaching is hit and miss
It is an amazing university with great facilities! It is fascinating how it encourages its students to develop their interest, passions and broaden horizons. Student services are on a very high level and combined with an excellent teaching quality Lancaster becomes a dream University!
Love being at Lancaster, friendly atmosphere and always feel safe in the uni and in the town. Only bad thing is that it can take 30 mins by bus to get into town but if you’re living on campus that doesn’t really matter as you have everything you need there.
