Just finished studying my degree here and I cannot recommend this place at all. Recieved little to no support throughout my studies especially with my dissertation. The campus is constantly being modernised so you're effectively studying on a building site, that said when construction was finished the building was great, but only if you do business and law no other courses have lectures there and have to deal with the old damp buildings. Despite the lovely new building the quality of teaching for business was still lacking with many lecturers clearly wanting to be doing anything else than engage with students. Many positive reviews about this place were written with lecturers standing over students shoulders questioning anything negative written. DON'T GO HERE!
Teaching is good, however on some degrees they read the PowerPoint slides. SU is good on frenchay with reasonable prices and events hosted however on glenside is always empty and quiet and usually closed
Feels like the USSR, campus is barren and nobody is ever there
Great social environment and learning facilities
Great social experience !! Great lecturers and courses!
I am doing the biomedical science degree. The labs have the latest equipment and most the professors are great. Theres a lot of information available and the course is very interesting.
Course was very disorganised, often getting important deadlines and dates incorrect. Lecturer barely showed up for the most crucial parts of 3rd year. Feedback was never aimed at improving artistic ability or professionalism, more so at aiding in getting an internship-which for the vast majority was not a likely path to take after the course. A small percentage of students were favoured over the rest of the group, creating a clique amongst the lecturers and said students.
SU expensive and doesn’t support clubs very well
Excellent services and facilities with friendly staff and students all around campus. Also a very pretty campus.
Absolutely awful at helping find placements
Amazing place to start your new life. Everything is given, you just need to study
Started uni here and got in a mentally and physically abusive relationship with another student. That person got kicked out of campus halls by the university whilst I was involved with him. When it got to its worst point at the end of the year - to the point where I was in a situation where had to run for my life, I then went to student conduct at the end of it all and asked for their help. All he got was a warning and another chance to come back to uni. When he actually broke every rule in the student conduct agreement. I gained mental health issues at the thought of having to face him on campus. Made me reluctant to go to lectures. He was given many chances prior to this but for some reason my situation still wasn’t the final straw for them to kick him out of uni. This is the worst uni you will ever come across. I got swept under the rug completely. I didn’t fight any longer because I couldn’t relive it anymore. If anyone is reading this is planning to come here, then please don’t.
i like my course but everything is else is s***
university is only good if what you're wanting to gain from university is alcoholism and a drug habit, all students want to do is go to the pub, rather than attend lectures. Found style and layout of student halls invasive to my privacy - students staying in flats across the courtyard can see directly into other rooms/flats. Lecturers did not seem to engage the students, let alone themselves in what they were teaching. Support services for wellbeing were abysmal, and found staff patronising. Was promised a myriad of things before starting my course at this university only for it to fall short. I regret my choice of this university and will not being coming back. Very sad as it could be so much better.
Uwe is a good uni for some subjects
This is literally hell, I'm not coming back next year.
S*** course, loved the people though
The staff are really helpful, the teachers are amazing. There is such a nice community.
Nice university with great facilities.
I like uwe, certain buildings are really great and the cafes are good. Some building could do with updating and the SU need some more events to improve it.
Frenchay is amazing but Glenside is crap. They clearly spend all their money on frenchay campus
Uwe is the university for young students who not only wish to enjoy their university experience, but also enjoy their time doing it
The best decision I’ve made so far in my life is going to UWE. I have never felt more comfortable, confident or valued.
Amazing and friendly uni, very welcoming and facilitating for all. Nothing is too much trouble for tutors or lecturers, they’re always willing to help!
Good uni that is good in every campus
I used to lose my wallet in the garden of UWE but my friends, the security team help me to find it
The su shop is way too expensive
I couldn’t have chosen a better University and would recommend it to everyone.
Fab uni. Great campus that keeps expanding and being updated. The tutors are all friendly and helpful. Support is there if needed. The halls of residence are nice and the night life in Bristol is the best! You’d be stupid not to go here...
Wish there was more contact hours/help getting work experience/extra work. But great uni experience in an amazing city.
Really good network with companies
Frenchay campus is where everything is if you are at bower you are pretty much an outcast and not much happens there.
Absolutely fantastic university - The university experience is phenomenal . No regrets.
This university, while maybe not the oldest or most well known, is rapidly rising through the ranks - and for good reason. With excellent teaching and a keen focus on the stem subjects (to be expected from what once was a polytechnic institute), UWE is set on increasing its reputation and becoming a force to be reckoned with. It is particularly well known for its robotics and aerospace work, with large facilities catering to these subjects. Admittedly, the lack of history behind the University does hinder it in terms of projects outside its specialities, for as well regarded as it is in the STEM subjects, it does not yet have the same reputation in the humanities - nor the history to back it up. Time will tell if this is something that will change in the coming years.
Helpful staff, friendly environment, providing even to international and European students a place, where they can feel security away from their home countries.
Had an amazing experience her compared to my friends at Russel group unis they’re a lot more supportive and helpful, the campus is nice and the students are less snobby
Prioritize students and offer great help in every aspect possible.
This university based in Bristol is good.
Loved every minute of it, great city great campus great peopen
Good uni campuses which are always improving
Its a very nice uni with great facilities and always getting better
Accommodation, city and campus incredible and homely. A great place to go to university.
AVOID THIS UNI. I'm just about to finish my degree at UWE. The curriculum has been terrible you basically do the same thing every year. The level of teaching is awful if you manage to sit through one of their tedious and unengaging, if you ask a lecturer a question it's very unlikely you will get a clear or even correct response in most cases. I have been let down and lied to by this uni and people should avoid it. For example my dissertation supervisor didn't even know what the learning criteria was. My personal tutor lied to me on the open day about professional qualifications when I queried it I was ignored when I pushed it further I was still ignored. All in all I wish I never went here what people say is true it is awful, and if someone says otherwise they are either lying to make their degree sound better, or have been force to write a positive review with their lecturer standing over them. However the facilities are nice so long as you're a business student otherwise its a dump.
Enthusiastic lecturers and helpful support service
Cannot believe we pay so much for so little. Gross campus, dire uni halls.
Great uni. The staff is awesome and the campus is brilliant.
All good, wifi can be quite bad though
UWE has such an accepting, chilled vibe and as a university it really cares about stidents’ well-being. There are organised events more than once a week and the facilities are always top notch.
UWE has state of the art facilities including a new law and business faculty. The new engineering faculty is being built and I have not seen a university that is as up to date as this one. The students union is a good place to go but it’s not as cheap as it could be. The university does lack open spaces to sit on nice days ( there used to be a massive area where the engineering building is being placed). I have loved my experience so far at UWE
The best facilities to study architecture.
The accommodation has been a nightmare with me having to leave campus to get oht of my house. Accommodation did nothing. Had some good lectures but the rest have been useless and patronizing.
UWE is a fantastic progressive university, great for anyone looking to further their future in a well connected friendly environment.
love it here its such an amazing city
Can't complain, their SU is good with events and there's loads of things to join in with around Bristol. Great facilities.
Nervous about first week, however settled right in. I’m currently having the best time of my life and I’m so glad I picked UWE!!
Literally the best uni I could have imaginened to go to! Not a bad word to say
Good university life but there is room for improvement
It's a good uni, lots of events and help from teachers, always spaces to study and get work done. Parking is utterly awful though, I've you're not in by 10am you'll be circling the car park for half an hour for a space.
Uwe is great and nursing is such an amazing course here! Bristol is the best city and I really think the lecturers are fab!
Great university with comprehensive support for all students. This is made all the better by the business/law building which is nationally competetive
Great night life, started to build really modern facilities. Needs better sports centre
UWE balances a more vocational/ coursework driven approach along with traditional exams brilliantly and allows you to show what you know in the best way for you.
Good facilities with constant improvement, I would like more support for alumni as certain buildings and facility's are pointless for current students and the sharing of facilities between faculties. Apart from that there is a club for everything, social media places for accommodation and a good social media presence.
Overall performance of UWE is totally in satisfactory level in terms of facilities and services. In learning, all the Lecturers are keen to support the students needs at anytime when they got free time.
Uwe has felt like nothing but home to me since I’ve got here. The moving in and settling in went smoothly, along with settling into university life. Not only starting lectures but socialising with the help of the freshers events put on at the SU and promoted by the Student Union. Also halls wars allowed me to meet people from differnt corners of campus and really allowed me to make a diverse set of friends. Even after freshers the SU and uni have continued to put on events and with Christmas coming up I cannot wait to take part in them.
Uwe campus is lovely and is perfect for someone who is wishing to stay on the campus (frenchay) it has basically everything you need (shops, cafe’s, gym, bar, hairdressers ect) Also the location of a Lidl, Asda, Sainsbury’s and a mega gym within a 5 minute walk is also really useful. The business block is also amazing and the lecturers are also super nice and are always willing to lend a hand.
Really lovely uni with lots of opportunities
Uwe is the most friendly university ever! Things are always changing due to the students needs, such as free black and white printing now!
Best decision I ever made was to transfer to UWE!
Great but bower lacks in societies, public transport (buses don’t run till late and not on weekends and the cafe isn’t amazing for hot food. Tutors are fab and love my course but spike island feels a bit far away and disconnected from the uni. Not much uni culture.
Friendly university with extremely helpful staff who push you to do better. I believe it to be looked down upon when in actual fact we have great facilities for learning and recreation which provides a rilliant environment to develop socially and academically.
Its an amazing uni massive library open 24/7 as well
Having come for postgrad from Bristol Uni, I have been very impressed by UWE, there’s more space, more diversity and a general lack of pretentiousness.
UoB but with better teaching and support
While the SU is relatively good, with a good variety of societies to choose from, one can't help but feel this is solely for the monetary gain that comes along with it. The mental health facilities at UWE are lacking, to say the least. I remember in 2016 a student at halls decided to end their life, and it was quietly pushed under the carpet, I remember no awareness campaign for mental health or anything. I suffered with terrible depression at my 2 years at UWE, I told lecturers about it, I was told that they can't do anything and I should speak to welfare. Understandable, but they never even bothered to drop me an email and see how I was. When I went to welfare, the treatment I got was rude, condescending and to be frank, pointless. I told them many times I was really struggling, and not once did they contact me outside of my appointments unless I initiated. It got so bad that I eventually dropped out entirely. If mental health services are a deal breaker for you, don't go to UWE.
Great uni. Love the feel of the campuses and I feel teaching is to a high standard
I love it, the experience is amazing and the people are great
Great university with amazing facilities
I got all the experience I needed at UWE to start my career. I really enjoyed my time and had all the support I needed both personally and academically.
Good uni good campus good facilities
The university have been helpful with settling in and the course I am on is interesting, however there are some courses which have lectures recorded and others which don’t and will refuse to either put slides up before lectures or record them to help students who many need that extra support.
The university has excellent and very modern facilities. The staff is welcoming and there is help service 24/7. Lecturers give their best to students and present the material in a fun way.
The new business block not only makes me want to go to uni but the facilities there bare top quality
Great staff, great societies, great friends, great fun.
I'm loving it at UWE. Everyone is really nice, I have nice flatmates, my accommodation is amazing and the best out of all my school friends and my course is alright
UWE offers continuous support throughout your university degree. From education to mental wellbeing. Loads on offer to help develop your CV during your time there to!
I don’t have a bad word to say about UWE. All I’ve experienced since arriving, are caring and supportive staff willing to help out any way they can. As an international student, I was weary about having no support from university and having a tough time. I couldn’t be more wrong. They have specific facilities for international students available when you need them!
I go to bower ashton campus which is a lovely campus being surrounded by deer and countryside whilst still being in the city, it is a great place to learn. Great facilities, with a whole building dedicated to film, animation and photography which is great.
So much support & great facilities.
Amazing 3 years at UWE, big love
Does what it sais on the package
Great university, great people. Lecturers know their stuff and the course is interesting
An excellent uni if you are doing one of the more popular degrees. However if you are doing a smaller degree the facilities are nowhere near as great as the brand new business building. The library is great though, it has everything the students need. As a former representative I can quite easily say the students union is one massive b****fight and nothing worthwhile is ever passed (Although most students don't even care). However societies and clubs definitely make up for this and get students a lot more engaged with their peers. The uni is perfect for those who love going out and equally as much for those who don't.
Great support for students, great employability skills
Uwe has exceeded my expectations by q million
Very good university, clean friendly, lovely environment to be in.
Amazing Staff, Amazing Campus and Amazing Nightlife!
Overall a postive experience. Stunning site and good local means. Glide wifi is rubbish so needs tweeking.
Wonderful atmosphere with brilliant facilities including the new Business and Law building in the centre of the campus and vibrant Student's Union.
Brilliant SU, new business block is incredible, good library. Really enjoyed first year. Would definitely recommend UWE to other people
