So understanding when it comes to mental health!
UWE is a fantastic Uni which offers an excellent student experience. The teaching, student support and career opportunities are a key standout for UWE and is constantly on the rise. I would highly recommend UWE to anyone interested in going to university.
Bad students union very dull, Careers don’t know what they are doing
Diverse and is all around great
New engineering block looks fab! Good equipment, and in my field (Aerospace) some excellent lecturers and facilities. Could use some better budgeting so we don't get a brand new block full of high tech stuff right next to a 1970's building full of asbestos but hey ho.
Organisation is an absolute joke. Frenchay is completely seperate to the other (better) campuses.
Absolutely fantastic! Such a fantastic atmosphere around the place, as well as improving massively every single day! From the accommodation to the library, the SU Bar to the classroom facilities, it’s a fantastic place to be.
I really enjoyed my time in bristol however i feel at no point was that due to the uni.
Very family oriented, lectures are always available to help. Facilities are very good often open 24/7, reasonable prices for equipment etc. Accomodation is very very good, especially wallscourt park houses
clubs activities should be included in the campus
At UWE all the money is spent on Frenchay campus so if you're going to Glenside it's like the poorer relative that nobody remembers or cares about. The Wi-Fi is shockingly slow and you can be sat there for ten minutes waiting just to log on. The Frenchay campus have tablets outside the room to show booked study spaces, Glenside doesn't so you're constantly having to throw people out of booked spaces. Questions I have asked the librarians over the net, they haven't been able to answer and have just sent me links and I'm talking basic questions. Considering Glenside homes the health professions there is no gym, not even a running track which is beyond poor. Parking is horrific you buy an annual pass and instead of being assigned a space you'll be lucky to find one, especially when they keep kicking you off for welcome events. Overall lecturers are friendly and approachable and teach well, however you always get one and we certainly have her.
Professional world focus with great links with companies.
I came here on foundation year after not getting the grades. Staff super inspiring and helpful, now I'm top off my class changed course to a better more challenging one.
A safe university campus with excellent facilities open 24/7. Loads of careers help with knowledgeable staff
Everything a student could ever need to have the best years of their life and get a quality degree.
Social and lots of contact points for students in need of help
I studied at UWE at postgraduate level this year and found it to be the best learning experience I've experienced.
Toilet in E block has been out of order for a week now, an example of how the campus runs on a bare minimum. If you fancy a flat pint in a dirty glass then the students union bar is the place to go. These comments are highly nit picky, I understand however it's the easiest way for me to explain the campus experience is liveable but not exactly enjoyable. Teaching is effective and helpful however the engagement hours are low and the timetables always seem to cause inconveniences. I pay over £9000 in tuition and I dont even get a discount in travel costs whereas the University of bristol does receive reimbursement. The internet, you guessed it, is sufficient at best, and unusable at worst. The ISP maintainenece service is slow and unresponsive and the infrastructure didnt work when I lived in halls. In house "eduroam" service feels impossible to log into. This in turn forces me to use my data to access their learning materials as the teaching staff wont print the material half the time.
In second year and have enjoyed the experience and facilities of the uni so far
Really good uni but could put in more SU events like SUesday.
Banging uni, went to Manchester met for 2 months and hated it compared. Wouldn’t go to any other uni x
The best!!!! This Uni is really great
Its a really good uni, I easily made lots of friends from the first week. Facilities are great and easy to get around
Nice, modern campus - not enough coffee shops/places to eat compared to other universities. Libraries could have more books as they’re sold out of EVERY book I need.
This is my second degree my first was at a different university to UWE and UWE far exceeds it. As a mature student the staff couldn't be more helpful. The course work is very in depth and provides you with a thorough knowledge of your topic. The anatomical and normal library are of excellent standards and if you can't get in due to snow etc the lectures are recorded on panapto so you can easily catch up. Very close to Bristol City which is amazingly conveinent.
nice feel to the uni. helpful and friendly lectures and very good library facilities
Really engaging and helpful staff and environment is friendly as well.
Loved every moment of my experience.
UWE is a great university all round. Staff are generally very helpful and always willing to give you advise on your course. The campus has very good amenities and is only a short walk away from two large supermarkets (and a Nando’s). Bristol city centre is only a 20 min bus ride away which makes getting to and back from nights out very convenient.
UWE has wonderful staff, lots of unique societies and events and is overall just a fun and open learning experience.
It’s such a lovely university with some of the best staff. Very much love going here
The best Uni with the best teachers. Every one is friendly and always helpful
Dedicated lecturers, friendly campus staff and excellent course programmes.
The best and only the best. Amazing people and they help you fit in instantly. It is the best uni by far for people wanting to experience new cultures and different things. Come to UWE and change your perspective on life and culture forever.
Now that i’m not homeless after their huge accommodation **** up, it’s actually a great uni, everyone is so friendly and all the support is there if you need it.
The campus is so incredibly tidy, if you need maintenance they come so quickly, the rooms (even the cheapest ones) are so good complete with everything you need. The little things surprised me the most, like the welcome pack. Its such a friendly social uni
Good student support, facilities and teaching classrooms. Love this uni!
Good uni overall. It’s as good as you make it the WiFi just needs improving in some buildings
Can't say I know much since I couldn't even get into halls of residence and there's now a 100 people waiting list which I wasn't put on automatically once it was created. Private housing is equally impossible as there are 10+ viewing the place before you. Once completing my 6 hour travel most, if not all, the viewings are cancelled or there's no hope of your offer getting accepted anyway. No housing. Extremely expensive. Pathetic accommodation system that doesn't even show you which rooms are available. You just choose 6 and cross your fingers.
cant complain... pretty good so far! nice campus
Fantastic Uni with phenomenal facilities. 100% recommend buying a better package with their provided Glide internet however. The base package is awful..
Really great campuses and social opportunities both on campus and in the city, perfect for the migrating rural to city student as theirs a good gap between city and campus, but still close enough that bus’ can get in quickly
Fantastic campus and great university life !! Yeah
Great courses, modern buildings, easy to find and beautiful campus. Teaching staff are incredible offering amazing support. Studying here in my 3rd year on a Biosciences masters course. Accomodation in first year is also second to none, great value for money, especially Wallscourt houses!
Its an ok uni. Some of the lecturers can be very unprofessional and can't take criticism. Its their way or the high way sort of thing. Honestly joined the uni thinking it would be good even tho its ranked kinda low. But now I realise why its not ranked higher. Wouldn't recommend an engineering course here as a lot of the staff are patronising on subjects that would not have been taught at a levels. They expect you to know of the bat. I'm paying around 9k to learn not be told I'm stupid for something I don't know and it being your job to tell us as students the new information we need to graduate with the knowledge to work in industry
ISOLATING PAYING ALL THIS MONEY FOR BAD FACILITIES THE LIBRARY WAS GOOD BUT YALL GOTTA STEP IT UP BECAUSE BRO THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE
I was ar bower ashton campus, if you enjoy a small and quiet campus you will like it. I found the campus very boring and depressing to be on and secluded from anything near by with a £3 bus getting you anywhere near the city. I felt forgotten about as all the social events were on the main campus at frenchay and there wasnt much concern for mental health as i wanted to drop out and had no idea who to turn when i got to my lowest point.
I couldn’t ask for a better uni. The level of teaching is excellent, the wellbeing and careers department are incredible and I will be sorry to be graduating next year!
Teaching is good, looking after student welfare is poor and understaning of student mental health is bad. It's a good university if you are certain you won't have any problems with mental health etc while there.
Our uni keeps getting better. It was a great uni when I arrived but with the addition of more student accommodation on campus, the new business and engineering block, as well as some smaller projects across the campus, it has brung UWE into this century and the next. The uni is always seeking better staff to improve its education. WiFi is great on campus but could do with some improvements in the student village accommodations. The sports teams are as good as any other uni’s. The student union is quite basic, but serves its purpose well.
Very good university with great facilities at frenchay campus however glenside Campus is neglected and living in halls on glenside almost felt like a prison. I am a student/fan of UWE as a place to study but there needs to be a greater student union effort to create fun experiences that bring people together, outside of freshers week - for all students. Again, the university needs to stop neglecting glenside, especially the halls of residence. But, if you are expected to spend your time on frenchay campus you will most likely have nothing to worry about.
Going to UWE has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. Everyone is so friendly on campus and it’s so easy to find your way around. Student accommodation is a great convenient place to live and a great way to meet people. The professors are so helpful and the workload isn’t too much. It’s easy to balance your work/social/study. I love it here so much.
Going into my third year of uni and it has been the best 3 years of life! 100% recommend.
staff eager to help lecturers that actually seem to care and understand u will be supported through anything student satisfaction done right
I didn’t enjoy my course but that was my mistake in picking it however the facilities are amazing and the staff are very helpful.
Just finished studying my degree here and I cannot recommend this place at all. Recieved little to no support throughout my studies especially with my dissertation. The campus is constantly being modernised so you're effectively studying on a building site, that said when construction was finished the building was great, but only if you do business and law no other courses have lectures there and have to deal with the old damp buildings. Despite the lovely new building the quality of teaching for business was still lacking with many lecturers clearly wanting to be doing anything else than engage with students. Many positive reviews about this place were written with lecturers standing over students shoulders questioning anything negative written. DON'T GO HERE!
Teaching is good, however on some degrees they read the PowerPoint slides. SU is good on frenchay with reasonable prices and events hosted however on glenside is always empty and quiet and usually closed
Feels like the USSR, campus is barren and nobody is ever there
Great social environment and learning facilities
Great social experience !! Great lecturers and courses!
I am doing the biomedical science degree. The labs have the latest equipment and most the professors are great. Theres a lot of information available and the course is very interesting.
Course was very disorganised, often getting important deadlines and dates incorrect. Lecturer barely showed up for the most crucial parts of 3rd year. Feedback was never aimed at improving artistic ability or professionalism, more so at aiding in getting an internship-which for the vast majority was not a likely path to take after the course. A small percentage of students were favoured over the rest of the group, creating a clique amongst the lecturers and said students.
SU expensive and doesn’t support clubs very well
Excellent services and facilities with friendly staff and students all around campus. Also a very pretty campus.
Absolutely awful at helping find placements
Amazing place to start your new life. Everything is given, you just need to study
Started uni here and got in a mentally and physically abusive relationship with another student. That person got kicked out of campus halls by the university whilst I was involved with him. When it got to its worst point at the end of the year - to the point where I was in a situation where had to run for my life, I then went to student conduct at the end of it all and asked for their help. All he got was a warning and another chance to come back to uni. When he actually broke every rule in the student conduct agreement. I gained mental health issues at the thought of having to face him on campus. Made me reluctant to go to lectures. He was given many chances prior to this but for some reason my situation still wasn’t the final straw for them to kick him out of uni. This is the worst uni you will ever come across. I got swept under the rug completely. I didn’t fight any longer because I couldn’t relive it anymore. If anyone is reading this is planning to come here, then please don’t.
i like my course but everything is else is s***
university is only good if what you're wanting to gain from university is alcoholism and a drug habit, all students want to do is go to the pub, rather than attend lectures. Found style and layout of student halls invasive to my privacy - students staying in flats across the courtyard can see directly into other rooms/flats. Lecturers did not seem to engage the students, let alone themselves in what they were teaching. Support services for wellbeing were abysmal, and found staff patronising. Was promised a myriad of things before starting my course at this university only for it to fall short. I regret my choice of this university and will not being coming back. Very sad as it could be so much better.
Uwe is a good uni for some subjects
This is literally hell, I'm not coming back next year.
S*** course, loved the people though
The staff are really helpful, the teachers are amazing. There is such a nice community.
Nice university with great facilities.
I like uwe, certain buildings are really great and the cafes are good. Some building could do with updating and the SU need some more events to improve it.
Frenchay is amazing but Glenside is crap. They clearly spend all their money on frenchay campus
Uwe is the university for young students who not only wish to enjoy their university experience, but also enjoy their time doing it
The best decision I’ve made so far in my life is going to UWE. I have never felt more comfortable, confident or valued.
Amazing and friendly uni, very welcoming and facilitating for all. Nothing is too much trouble for tutors or lecturers, they’re always willing to help!
Good uni that is good in every campus
I used to lose my wallet in the garden of UWE but my friends, the security team help me to find it
The su shop is way too expensive
I couldn’t have chosen a better University and would recommend it to everyone.
Fab uni. Great campus that keeps expanding and being updated. The tutors are all friendly and helpful. Support is there if needed. The halls of residence are nice and the night life in Bristol is the best! You’d be stupid not to go here...
Wish there was more contact hours/help getting work experience/extra work. But great uni experience in an amazing city.
Really good network with companies
Frenchay campus is where everything is if you are at bower you are pretty much an outcast and not much happens there.
Absolutely fantastic university - The university experience is phenomenal . No regrets.
This university, while maybe not the oldest or most well known, is rapidly rising through the ranks - and for good reason. With excellent teaching and a keen focus on the stem subjects (to be expected from what once was a polytechnic institute), UWE is set on increasing its reputation and becoming a force to be reckoned with. It is particularly well known for its robotics and aerospace work, with large facilities catering to these subjects. Admittedly, the lack of history behind the University does hinder it in terms of projects outside its specialities, for as well regarded as it is in the STEM subjects, it does not yet have the same reputation in the humanities - nor the history to back it up. Time will tell if this is something that will change in the coming years.
Helpful staff, friendly environment, providing even to international and European students a place, where they can feel security away from their home countries.
Had an amazing experience her compared to my friends at Russel group unis they’re a lot more supportive and helpful, the campus is nice and the students are less snobby
Prioritize students and offer great help in every aspect possible.
This university based in Bristol is good.
Loved every minute of it, great city great campus great peopen
Good uni campuses which are always improving
Its a very nice uni with great facilities and always getting better
Accommodation, city and campus incredible and homely. A great place to go to university.
AVOID THIS UNI. I'm just about to finish my degree at UWE. The curriculum has been terrible you basically do the same thing every year. The level of teaching is awful if you manage to sit through one of their tedious and unengaging, if you ask a lecturer a question it's very unlikely you will get a clear or even correct response in most cases. I have been let down and lied to by this uni and people should avoid it. For example my dissertation supervisor didn't even know what the learning criteria was. My personal tutor lied to me on the open day about professional qualifications when I queried it I was ignored when I pushed it further I was still ignored. All in all I wish I never went here what people say is true it is awful, and if someone says otherwise they are either lying to make their degree sound better, or have been force to write a positive review with their lecturer standing over them. However the facilities are nice so long as you're a business student otherwise its a dump.
Enthusiastic lecturers and helpful support service
Cannot believe we pay so much for so little. Gross campus, dire uni halls.
