All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The light in the room is a little bit dark
The room is nice and cozy. Also made bunch of great friends here too! The staffs are all very nice and friendly also with a lot of patience. I’m glad I choose this place for my accommodation. Everything just feels incredible!
The apartment gave me a great stay and their reception was very kind and prompt in resolving issues.
Nice room, nice manager, a good famliy.
I had a very good stay here and Dianna had a very good service attitude.
Quiet accommodation, good location from uni and convenient washing machine inside studio.
The only issue will be one loft is not working, but other than that are great. Staffs are friendly and willing to help.
good service,nice environment,beautiful scene
The environment is very good, the reception is very good, and the maintenance can be solved quickly.
Maintenance is very efficient and reception is friendly and helpful.
The independent washing machine is great.
really enjoy activities that provide by St.Lawrence House~ REALLY GOOD STAFFS! All of staffs are really nice and friendly!
St Lawrence House is a decent accomodation, that is more on the more expensive side. However, this will ring true with a lot of other studio private accomodation, given the rising costs of living in Bristol. The accomodation has an amazing location, right in the heart of the city. A massive advantage of living here is the personal laundry machine that comes with every flat.
I used to live here and I am glad to say that thinks have improved with the new team. Super quick service with James, Gio and Top maintenance. Thank you Lazslo.
It’s pretty good, very recommend it!
Good location, near to both city center and uni. Staffs are very kind!
I really love this building, it’s comfortable for living.
Brooklyn is really a nice staff
I’ve had the pleasure of living in this accommodation for three years and can wholeheartedly recommend it.
Location and services match up the pricing. Recent renovations on facilities and the introduction of off-hour security in reception and have done well in addressing issues mentioned by residents in our feedback. The new management team, led by Ryan and Brooklyn are very nice and always ready to help.
.i think this apartment is very well. it isbcomfotable to live. I will miss the time on st lawrence house. The location is very convience too.
Good environment and location, reception is class as well
Live happily at St Lawrence! They hold amazing parties sometimes which makes international students feel at home!
I think the service attitude of the front desk of this apartment is very good, which makes me feel the warmth of home. If anyone asks me, I will definitely recommend this apartment
I felt that the environment was good, the soundproofing was good, there was a separate washing machine and the room was large
great!my room is very special great the people very nice! Make me feel like in my home! Very close to go shopping
公寓是个好公寓,就是前台下班太早了 Good room to sleep
Must praise,I have been telling my friends that if let me choose a place to live again, I will still choose here!🥰🥰🥰
Great experience nice reception really helpful
It was a wonderful experience living at st Lawrence house. Next to the city center it’s full of life and a short walk to the bus stop when needed.
Very good location. Very kind and warm-hearted staff. The room is equipped with everything you need, including a washing machine. Plus a nice view.
This accommodation has good services and nice staff. I am happy to live here for one year. Nice utilities and good room, we have wash machine in our own room, and we can do sports in the gym downstairs.
The studio is spacious and has everything you need for student life in Bristol. The only problem I have faced is that the lifts were not working for a long time and I had to use the stairs every time.
NO LIFT!!! NO WIFI!!! TOTALLY CHAOS!!! The extractor fan was broken when i moved in a month and a half ago and no one has come to fix it.
A complete and utter disaster. From the lack of security, communication and proper management. There is no warm water from sunday until monday morning, the fire alarm has a mind of it's own, the lifts are broken and seems that they will not be back in action for a while, currently there is wifi and since there is no staff on the weekends it seems that it will not be back up until after the weekend. What is even more outrageous, is how unsafe it is; People can enter without any restraints and steal residents' packages without any issues. Highly discourage going to this accommodation if you value your security and sanity.
If I could give them 0 star, I would defo do it, because they don’t even deserve 1 star!!! Don’t live here! 1. No safety ( the thefts keep coming in, because the gate couldn’t be locked and they don’t even fix that, and lost a £70 parcel, but they said they’re not responsible for it). 2. No 24hrs security. The reception only open from Monday - Friday 9am-5pm. And the main entrance sometimes doesn’t close, so someone who’s not living in here is easy to get in and steel your properties. Plus, if you’re accidentally locked yourself out, they’ll charge you for £50 to help you to open your room door. 3. No lift. I live in 9th floor, they have two lifts, but one of it has stopped working since May and the other one has broken for almost two months. If you want ‘fun’ exercise, you’re welcome to live in here 😂 4. No hot water (almost every Sunday) 5. No Wi-Fi 6. No heating. It’s freezing as the weather is getting cold. The heater doesn’t do work (they set every heater at 19 Celsius)
the lift was broken for two weeks, many facilities were broken.
I live on the 11th floor. Both lifts broke down. Management is still having meetings to discuss whether to fix them. They have absolutely no empathy or care.
The elevator has broken for one week and no one comes to repair, for 285 a week? Definitely bad for your money spent
There is a washing machine in the studio, which is rarely in the Bristol student accommodation. Reception staffs are very kind and easy-going, for example, they would help me to print some documents. I like here.
Built in washing machine for both washing and drying. All in one studio so no separate compartment for kitchen. Fridge is tiny so multiple shopping rounds is necessary if you cook often. However, the place is located very close to the city centre and all the grocery stores. Insects can fly in if you have the lights on at night with the curtains open. Heater not as effective as you'd like but closing the windows will suffice to keep the room warm. Super great wifi, no hiccups. Lifts sometimes malfunction or are closed.
1. I like there is a private wash machine in the studio, this is the biggest surprise for me and I think it is the most valuable part of the studio. 2. Each separate places are good, and I think it is enough to live with two people in the standard room. 3. I hope that can provide some screen windows, because if I like opening window that will be easy to let lots of insects coming into the room. 4. Reception everything is okay and protect our safety!!!
This.accommodation is excellent in terms of location and facilities, especially the private washing machine!
Love the way that every room has its own washing machine, never have to climb up and down when doing laundry! Also the bathroom is spacious compared to other studios I’ve stayed.
It’s a really nice accommodation!
St Lawrence House is a nice accommodation which provides good facilities, such as an oven and washing machine in the rooms. The security in the building can be improved as the front gate tends to be broken frequently. There are nice social spaces in the building and adequate gym space.
One of the best student accommodation in Bristol.
Appreciate for the cleanness and convenience of this apartment which makes me feel like at home. Will definitely recommend it to my friends.
Convenient location, excellent facilities and warm people in reception. I will recommend St Lawrence House to my friends if they come to Bristol to study in the future.
I will definitely recommend this student accommodation. Every thing is perfect here and worth the money. Very close to grocery stores and the city center. I have my own fridge, oven, washing machine, microwave and toaster. My own bathroom area is also nice! The reception staffs and maintenance services are all pretty good! I love living here.
Overall it's an amazing student accommodation to live. I got my own washing machine and the view is really nice from top floors. The reception people are all very nice and friendly. Also the walls are soundproof which is a huge improvement for my life compared to other accommodation I've lived in. Definitely a great value for the money.
Everything about St Lawrence House is perfect!Although some people may complain about its rent, but it is fantastic value for money. The accommodation is well equipped with all kinds of household appliances, which makes life really easy and convenient. Also stuffs of reception are really nice people!
Comfortable place to live! It has everything that you need for uni life.
Wonderful studio. Recommende you to choose 151 on 11 floor because the view outside the window is really nice, except that the bird outside are a bit noisy hah.
Spend 3 years at SLH and it was perfect. Very pleasant and attentive staff
A perfect location and on the higher floors has amazing views of the city. The rooms are great sizes and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. 7 minute walk into Cabot and great location for catching buses.
I have a perfect living experience with our acommodation. The reception is always friendly and willing to help us. In addition, the common environment is tidy and clean all the time. I strongly recommend my friends to choose St. Lawrence House!!!
St. Lawrence House is an ideal place to stay. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The maintenance service is very prompt. The location is great because it is in the city center, walking distance to bus stops, shops, etc. The reception service is also very good. The gym has all the necessary equipment. I have been living here for two years now and I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Great property in a perfect location! St Lawrence House is a stone’s throw from the city centre & in close proximity to the university. The studios are more spacious than other student accommodations and are in fabulous condition. The staff are warm and helpful- Dominika in particular was exceptional.
Good accommodation, good location, need to do more to your backyard.
Nice student accommodation and great location. It can easily travel to uni, train station and bus station. City center is easily accessed as well. Highly recommended.
Well, the overall feeling is good, close to the bustling area, the front desk is good, and it will also hold a lot of activities. But there may be some details that need to be improved.
Great experience most of the time, close to schools and city centre, very convenient for shopping, relatively safe and secure, nice flat to live in
Excellent location with great facilities including a washer-dryer in every studio. The staff are very helpful and there are plenty of social activities planned for every month.
Good choice for student accommodation in bristol, the stuff are nice
Great location and has excellent facilities including a washing machine in every studio. The staff are very helpful and there are plenty of social activities planned for every month.
The equipment provided in the room is very enough, we got a kettle, oven, microwave, etc. the most important thing is the individual washing machine especially during the covid time. Just a little bit dirty in the bin area.
Paid 305 per week but terrible experience
The room is nice and quiet. The washing machine is decent and soo convenient. The receptionists are really friendly and kind.
Perfect location for any student. Friendly people always able to help in an instant, also get emails sometimes about lil freebies in the reception for us which is a really nice homely touch!
Everything was perfect since the day I arrived. The location is gold, it's closed to every other thing in the city center, as well as the university. The staff are nice and supportive. The room is very clean and is in very good condition. Although the price increased since the first year I booked; however, the experiences I had with this place are incomparable.
I love this accommodation! Especially nice and kind advisor, Dominika Sumislawska. She always helps students very kindly! I love this place:)
It’s the best accommodation for students in Bristol.
The best of all is definitely the staff members who are super helpful all the time. Something else that I like: 1. Nice noice-cancelling wall. 2. Great view. 3. Laundry machine. What I dislike: 1. one of the list is broken half of the time. 2. Nice the best cleaned condition when I moved in. Overall rating: 99/100.
Staff are very friendly and willing to help. Our room is lovely and is everything we need, I have really enjoyed staying here so far! Recently discovered the social spaces of the study room and common room, really lovely atmosphere and a clean and spacious set up. Shame about COVID-19 reducing contact with meeting other students.
It is definitely a great place to live in Bristol, pretty close to the city center where you can access lots of markets and restaurants, staffs are nice and helpful, room is fully equipped with oven and washing machine, if you book early, the price can be fair enough.
good location and nice reception, good living experience, but the entertainment space is not very large.
Location is great. But when I moved in, the toilet paper holder is fully broken and the bed is way too small and hard. The drawer is also not enough at all i can't even put all my clothes don't mention other stuff. Regarding this year obvious 25% raise about the rent, this is not really worthy.
A little bit inefficient. There is no bathroom bin and toilet brush in my room and two weeks passed I still haven't received them.
Lift is a huge problem. Wifi also is.
St Lawrence house has been my favourite student accommodation. It’s clean, quiet, and has friendly and helpful staff. I Love my room, it’s well planned with space and storage, tv, washing machine etc.
Overall great value for money. Nice, quiet and comfortable, perfect for a post-grad student
Beautiful location, I was feeling completely secure while living there. Staff is incredibly supportive and friendly. Valerie (Assistant Manager) is the best! She made me feel very welcomed and was always ready to help with any query. Well done guys!!
It's a good accommodation choice in bristol, washing machine and drying machine is very usefull.
Heavily do not recommend living at any Abodus sites. As a former student resident my experience has been awful. Especially in this climate, they have not treated people fairly! They have implemented a hard cut off for eligibility of early tenancy release. Yet never announced any information about check out deadlines. Then penalising their residents who want to go back to their parental homes during this pandemic! When addressing my circumstances they did not respond adequately in fact they mostly copy and pasted generic emails with no intention of being fair. Not to mention how unsafe their environment was all year round. They do not give you the experience they promise! On many occasion WiFi would be slow, water wouldn’t run, lifts were always broken and security was never available. The accommodation was not equipped for covid 19 in terms of supplying hygienic products. I hope this short summary is enough to prove that Abodus is not a facility you would want to live in!
I would not recommend this accommodation as well as any within the company to anyone. During this uncertain time the company is mistreating it’s students and is not allowing them to leave to be with their families during a pandemic. They failed to provide clear information about checkout deadlines and are not responding adequately to people’s circumstances. This experience has strained heavily on my mental health especially as a first year student. I would not wish this on anyone else. As well as that, when I was there, the gates to enter the building were constantly broken and never fixed, as well as there never being any security around. It was hard to feel safe again especially during these trying times. In terms of providing hand sanitizer, they managed to put out 1 bottle, but it was never refilled after that even when things got worse. This further encouraged me to leave as I didn’t feel safe.
I love St Lawrence House. There are adequate equipment that makes my daily life more convenient. My friend’s room is much bigger but cheaper than mine, and I feel a little unhappy. Prices should be more fair!
If the wifi signal could be stable that would be perfect.
It worths the price, bills are included in the rent. It was wonderful to have a fully equipped studio with a washer dryer and a full-size oven. Also, there are always social events available each month.
The staff who manage the building are approachable, friendly and always willing to help. Flats are clean, modern, and well-equipped. Overall a great place to live.
The only student accommodation offers a lot of amenities with great location.
Comfortable and safe place with friendly staff but limited WIFI quality. And containing interesting activities.
I moved into St Lawrence House with my partner and the team have been nothing but helpful. Giving us the proper information for dual occupancy, always informing us if we have a parcel arriving. The team also ensure they get to know you a little so it’s you never feel uncomfortable to talk to them.
if I had to be a student again, I would have definetely stay here. (to be honest, I wish that the law can be changed so as to let me stay here even if I am not going to be a student.) I have been staying here for almost two years. It is the only students accomodation that includes a washing machine inside the room, which is a really big advantage. The rooms are decorated with nice colours and are relly well preserved. I feel 100% secure since there are cameras everywhere. The stuff is awesome, very welcoming, friendly and always there to help. The location is more than perfect, extremely covenient for all my activites from uni to socialising. I love St. Lawrence House. It is my home, my secure place.
I love my room, and appreciated how clean it was when I moved in. I have everything I need and feel supported by management.
The washing machine is really nice, but common space may be a little bit small
Great place to stay, while studying in Bristol, and good staff to help you.
Excellent staff, friendly, efficient. Good cleanliness of public spaces. Room sizes are ideal - not too big or small. Comes with laundry machines, excellent for saving money. Good lighting in rooms with two large windows. Location right in the heart of the city centre - can get to anywhere important within a 15 min walk.
Good experience at St Lawrence house
My experience in Uk has been good.
nice place with not very good using washing machine
It’s a nice place to stay. There was a printer in reception before, which has been replaced with a vending machine. Bringing the printer back would be useful.
Very nice, comfortable and quite room, only 10 minutes walk from uni
An excellent place to live, although has issues around stability of management and rate of improvement/cleanliness. It is expensive but you do get additional services for that cost.
Lovely views from 10th floor Washing machine and oven inside the room-very convenient
I really love it. That's because St Lawrence is the unique accommodation which all of the flat has their own washing machine. I also love the view of 11th floor. That's perfect. The reception also very kind. I need to transfer my room during summer vacation. They helped me a lot.
This is the best student accommodation I've lived. Perfect for one person. I hope I could buy a little flat like this in the future.
St. Lawrence house is perfect, good location. Sometimes wifi is not very well.
Overall not bad. But the bed mattress is too soft (or somewhat broken), internet are unstable. Great to have a big tv and laundry here.
The location of this apartment is very good, safe and convenient. I'd like to recommend it to my friends
Terrible internet, never experienced such bad internet before. I ve been living in 5 accommodations in Bristol so far,no single place is bad as here.
it's very convenient to live, near to the center and school. TV and washing machine are biggest advantages of St Lawrence House.
Feel convenient and comfortable.
St Lawrence House is at a prime location with good facilities such as an oven and a washing machine in the room, which you wouldn't normally see in other studios.
The best studios in Bristol! The best location at the center, near to all the facilities (gym, shops, brands...). It has lowest prices among all the studios around, but the only accommodation to have private washer and dtyer in each room.
Living here for 2 years has been stress free.
It’s really comfortable with a place to stay for the school year. Hardly have any issues, except the maintenance checks for the one of elevators and all. We have a vending machine for late night snacks so that’s really helpful to say the least. Overall it’s really good. The staff are exemplary and are always happy to assist your requests. The only issue is the Ask4 internet as it is annoying as it can be incredibly unreliable but it works really well on it’s good days. Can’t really fault the staff for that
It is my third year living in this accommodation. I love this place but the price goes up every year, which makes it become less affordable.
Great value for the central location and the room (with your own washing machine)
This apartment often holds interesting activities, such as movie night, making spring couplets, Halloween pumpkins and so on.
Everything in the St Lawrence House is perfect; friendly staff, cleaning, maintenance. The only little weakness could be lack of social spaces for several activities (e.g. gym, music instruments)
really nice place and management, it is always clean and quiet. i like it!
I like it. It is very comfortable to live. the location is very nice. there are many supermarkets.
The accommodation provide house hold items such as kettle, toaster even iron which is really great.
I am very happy with my flat and staff of St Lawrence House in Bristol
