They have recently spent £340 million investing in their city centre campus and facilities and focus on developing practical skills in their graduates.

With a campus located in the centre of Birmingham, Aston University strives to be a leading university for business and the professional trades. Its roots began in 1895 and its reputation for teaching has been recognised with a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework. Over 15,000 students are enrolled from diverse countries of the world.

The University of Birmingham was one of the first red brick universities in the UK and is part of the Russell Group of universities with a big focus on research. Its campus was first developed in 1909 and is being redeveloped as part of a ten year investment plan costing over £600 million. Public Transport
The city is easy to get around by foot and bike; it has lots of walking routes and they are working on a new cycle highway. There are train stations dotted around Birmingham so it would be worth investing in a student railcard. The city has recently introduced a tram system, West Midlands Metro, which has made getting around even easier.
Birmingham is situated in the heart of England and consequently has fantastic connections to the rest of the country and Europe, whether it be by rail, road or air. London is around 90 minutes away by train and the international airport is just 10 minutes from the city centre.

Shopping
The city offers one of the best shopping experiences in the UK. The iconic Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres are brimming with high street brands and a four-storey Selfridges. If you are looking for independent boutiques and vintage shops, go to Digbeth which is a few roads down from the city centre, or head out a little further to suburbs Selly Oak and Kings Heath and you’ll come across some unique finds.

Trains are usually reliable but do break down, buses are not reliable, taxis are expensive because of demand. Eating out, there’s great options but it’s getting to London prices. Cost of living is horrific anywhere in this country. Theres some great music venues but the clubs are often dangerous as a whole woman you will be assaulted there is no doubt about it, there’s regular mugging and stabbings are common in this city. Same with needle spiking and regular spiking within clubs and bars. Shopping centre is fab but again even as a woman you are likely to be followed from my personal experience it’s best to just travel in groups or try and look like a male if you aren’t already and these problems can be avoided read more

It has great night life and is very easy to get into town from the student areas. Birmingham is so well connected can get a train, tram or bus practically anywhere without having to walk too far which is by far the best thing about it. The amount of nandos concentrated in one area is a bit insane but there is still a lot of choice and variety of restaurants. Lots to do whether it be going for coffee, shopping or clubbing would never find myself bored. The only issue was finding stuff to do with my family when they came as most stuff was aimed at students but they only came every one in a blue moon so it wasn’t that bad. read more

As everyone knows the cost of living has increased by a lot, however Birmingham still remains in the fair share, with not having things too high or too low. There are a range of places in Birmingham where you can go eat, from different cuisines to choose from- Asian to chinese to a full hearted English breakfast! You’ll never be disappointed with food! I have a whole list of food places and i’m still a quarter way through my list! Public transport in birmingham usually does get busy during peak times but nevertheless they are all ongoing and mostly in the centre of Birmingham town centre. read more

Living close to UoB in Birmingham is a very nice experience (though some areas, especially in Selly Oak, seem a little dodgy). Everyone lives close to campus and therefore it is easy to meet people at the local bars and pubs everyone goes to. Some of the most popular clubs are also all located on the same street (Broad Street). It is a little pricey, as most big cities are, but nowhere near as pricey as some other UK places like London. I haven’t lived here long but I can say that bham is a students paradise, with a massive grand central, shopping centres, club and pubs you’ll never be bored. Public transport is decent but can be confusing if your not used to a big city. read more
