Q&A
Thank you for reaching out and contacting us. I can confirm we have a regular pest control contractor who attends to complete routine inspections to prevent any rodent activity if identified and there has been no activity identified. We encourage all our residents to report any maintenance issues to the team at the desk in Don Gratton House either in person/ emailing or calling. Once we are notified we arrange the caretaker to investatigate as soon as possible and you are kept up to date regularly with any issues or if the repair has been completed. If you have any further questions please contact us so we can be of assistance. Many thanks
HI, thank you for your question. As we are experiencing changes into our climate, we are looking into various factors to help reduce heat developing within the flats during heatwaves. We are hoping to have this in place by next summer, so when the temperature reaches a certain level an automatic venting system can open and ensure a free flow of air to cool down the area.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Good location. Social spaces could be improved.
Thank you for your review, we are glad to hear you found the location suitable to your needs. As The Craft Building does not have its own common room and is located adjacent to Don Gratton House there is access to the common room with the tv and study area.
Mouse infestation for the entire year, our flat have repeatedly complained yet the building management aren’t doing anything. They’ve said that they’ll chase it up but it isn’t good enough. The kitchen is disgusting as there’s droppings everywhere so I don’t cook anymore. I even found a dead one in my room. Do not stay here. Considering how much you pay, everything is pretty unusable
Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you have been experiencing issues with rodent activity. We have a pest control contractor who monitors and attends to any reports of activity and we advise all residents to contact us if they are experiencing any issues so we can get this investigated. We have routine visits each month from the contractor and any evidence of activity an action plan is set in place to prevent any further developments. We will investigate your comment further to ensure this has been dealt with.
The service was extremely poor and staff rude at times…very unclear communication and the water got infected, they never did anything to solve it. But overall good for money .. however I would say that for the amount being paid, common spaces are really not enhanced
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear you have not had a good experience living at The Craft Building. I will pass the feedback on to the site team and we will review the information to improve our resident experience. As The Craft Building is adjacent to Don Gratton House we always encourage the residents to make use of the shared common area facilities where there is access to a large common room with tv and study area. If you can contact us directly so we may investigate your comment about the water. We have an external contractor who monitors the water monthly and takes samples regularly to ensure there are no issues. We encourage all residents to contact us as soon as possible with any issues they are having so we can offer assistance and resolve these as soon as possible and ensure you are enjoying your stay with us.
Perfect location but definitely overprices, my flatmates have reported some issues with their rooms that look a very long time to be looked at. The kitchen is a good size with lots of space and everything that you may need. My room was refreshed before I moved which makes a massive difference. Only other thing i would say is that the window opens minimally so on hot days you can definitely feel it. Love the mix of students though, different courses, years and universities its great to have diversity!
Thank you for your review, we are glad to hear you enjoy living in your accommodation and enjoy the diversity of the students. I will review the comment about the time it takes for the repairs to be completed and pass this on to the team.
My room was 30ºc for 9 months, until I'd complained to someone enough that they listened and moved me two floors down to another room. We also had no working oven, unannounced maintenance checks, including 4am call outs which we were unaware of - these maintenance checks often involved men in unmarked uniform coming into our personal rooms and looking at the showers. Honestly, I couldn't not recommend the Craft Building enough. I paid £210 per week for context.
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear you were having issues with your heating and glad the team managed to arrange suitable arrangements for you. If a resident requests a repair out of hours and if an emergency repair is required contractors will attend within 24 hours. This may be during out of office hours or at weekends or during the evening.
My experience in the attic floor of the Craft Building was quite nice, I like the private bathrooms for such a reasonable price, however it was very hot inside when the weather started to warm up a bit because of the machinery of the building located above us. Most members of the staffs were friendly and helpful, and sometimes we had nice little games, goodies or snacks which is definitely a very nice idea!
Thank you for your view and feedback, I will pass this on to the rest of the team. We are in the process of reviewing the warmer conditions in the flats due to the unprecedented warmer climate we are experiencing and hope to have a solution to allow the areas to be cooler. We are happy to hear you had an enjoyable experience overall staying with us.
I expected much better considering how much I paid for this. The room temperatures are horrible, the heating was on during the heatwave and the windows are very stiff when trying to open them. The lack of communal areas made it very hard to interact with other house mates, and the room in general is just disappointing. The bed was small and uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to stay here again.
Many thanks for your review, We are sorry to hear that there were issues with your stay. We will certainly discuss these issues with management and hope to improve our services going forward. Our staff are always available to discuss any issues you may have.
Have had issues from the start, I had no access to a shower for the first week with flatmates that had no access to cold water at all. They took weeks and the threat of legal action for them to move out room. Issue turn over is weeks long with a gate that’s been broken and is therefore access able to the public. The kitchens have no ovens, my Flatmate has dealt with vermin and the flats on floor four have heating issues and would hit 30 degrees in the autumn with no radiators on.
We are sorry to hear you have been experiencing issues with your facilities. There was a fault with part of the equipment which was resolved swiftly and we ensured that residents affected were provided access to suitable facilities in the event of any loss of water etc. As raised on your review there was an issue with the gate, this has been resolved. We made sure to have security on site to monitor the entrance and to ensure the residents safety at all times. We have regular visits with our pest control contractor to ensure there are no signs of unwanted pests, and this is closely monitored by all teams on site. Unfortunately as we are based in London this does allow for pests to be located in sewers etc that allow pests to be seen running around, but there are not active signs for pests on site.
