Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The best accommodation for post graduate students in terms of value for money. It is cheaper from George Eliot halls but it has an en-suite bathroom. Although it has a smaller room size and storage space but the bigger it is the messier the room gets. Also it is just a 5 minute walk from the Davison Building (which houses the library, student services, Starbucks cafe and study area) across a bridge. Also it is quieter and more peaceful than other halls except Penrose Court of course.
It's quite and clean, just like a resort without swimming pool and golf court. The disadvantage is that it's too far from the hall to the centre of Egham.
I loved the people at Highfield, we got on so well!!!
Highfield has such a community feel being just off campus that the social opportunities are frequent and you meet so many great people
Brilliant, ecxciting, comfortable and the location was great
Very quiet and yet social place, being a bit away from campus makes you not hear all the loud drunk people coming back from partying
I had a f****** great time in highfield, its far enough away from campus that security dont come all the time but close enough to pre and still get to the SU. The only problem I had at highfield were boring flat mates.
Good location, the rooms are a good size and big kitchen
You meet so many new people in the halls simply because there aren't many of you in the area and you are separate from the rest of campus making you bond!
Close to lectures, calm area, unfortunately two women from cleaning staff very rude when I needed to put on clothes before letting them into my room announced. Too many people coming and going without warning. Walked into my room once to find a man there at 10.30 am, he was fixing the hinges on my door but all this makes me feel uneasy since I never know when I will get unexpected visitors who claim to have the right to come into my room right away.
