have enjoyed my stay at Frederick and plan to stay here next year. However, since moving in, our bathroom has had a damp issue that has progressively worsened over time. It was regularly cleaned at first but hasn’t been for months. I believe this has been a longstanding problem, as staff were already aware when we first reported it upon moving in. I feel more could be done to resolve the issue long-term, especially since the other bathroom on our floor and in our block doesn’t seem to have the same problem.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The doors break and then never seem to get fixed (one of the doors to C block has been broken since September 2023 and remains so). The front door has been broken at least 2 months so we all use the side gate to get in. The sensors in the bathroom don't cover the shower so everyone has the shared trauma of having their first shower and the light turning off 10 minutes in, leaving them stuck in a glass box in pitch darkness fumbling for the door handle in panic. The kitchen surfaces and burned and scuffed from previous tennants and don't get replaced between tenants.

Frederick House is poor value for money and is ugly. It has been dirty, with waste management very bad at times. However, I am aware that these things are not the fault of reception staff, who have been fine.

Unclean places as laundry, corridors and the problem with the bins and the bins room is disgusting

Frederick House is a nice space to live. They fix issues quickly. Broken table legs were fixed immediately. Declan came to help me when a dishwasher broke a fuse. Unfortunately, there is an issue with trash disposal and the bins often overflow.

I’ve enjoyed my time at Frederick House very much. The property management has been excellent and the staff and security have all been extremely helpful and most friendly (Martin in particular has been very kind and welcoming). All the social spaces are very clean and well catered for the residents, and the location of the building is fantastic. My only critiques is that there could perhaps be better WiFi/internet on the whole site, and perhaps a more diverse and frequent amount of social events. Overall I have adored my time at Frederick House and would stay here again if I could, and I would also recommend it to a friend. My experience has been most enjoyable.
