Weird question but is there a kettle and microwave in the shared kitchen? I couldn't see one on the virtual view

Great question, unfortunately we do not provide microwaves or kettles. We only provide fixed appliances; 2 x ovens, 2 x hobs, 2 firdge/freezers and a dishwasher. Oh, and you get a Henry Hoover between your flat!
Microwaves and kettles can be purchased as a flat when you arrive at local retailers/supermarkets.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Lovely accommodation very close to the city centre.
very good, clean and friendly and cosy
The residence is very good. The rooms are well laid out, and the kitchens are quite large. Both the city center and the university are a 10-minute walk away.
Pretty good experience, it does however take a while to get through to building manager on certain issues and the office is in coal yard 2 which we dont have access to yet. This makes it more difficult to handle problems however overall when contact is made a response is very quick.

Great place to stay. lovely accommodation and good size rooms
False advertising, the social spaces advertised are not in the building and I was not told this before I paid and moved in. Cleaning services advertised do not seem to be provided. Washing is massively over charged and only 2 washing machines in the whole building. People in the accommodation have also found mould in the fridge and showers and dead silverfish on the floor. WiFi is poor at the best of times.

I've really enjoyed staying here for the past few weeks! Amy and John have been super helpful with making sure everyone is settled in okay. I feel very secure with the 24hr security as well as the gates. My room is lovely and the common spaces are really good, I would recommend staying here for first year :)

I had such an amazing time in my first year at the Coalyard that I decided to rebook for a second year and I must say, It was just as good the second time around. Hygiene and cleanliness levels were of a high standard, staff were welcoming and friendly and the social areas were great. Overall a great experience and would most certainly recommend.
Chose to stay here for a second year as it is so nice, safe and a great place to live plus the rooms are modern and comfortable. Management are lovely and very welcoming. Great internet and never had any issues with it!

Really enjoyed my stay at the coal yard for my first year at York st John university. It is close Morrisons and the gym so super convenient and Also only a short walk to university and the town centre. the rooms are really clean and modern with nice big windows.
Location is spot on, 10 minute walk to uni and a 5 minute walk into town. Sight manager and care taker are top class, both easy to talk to and get stuff done quickly when you need any help with anything.

This is hands down the nicest university accommodation in York , the value for money and distance to local amenities cannot be beaten. The staff are always at hand to help , no matter what the issue.

Has a good time, met a lot of different people. I'd like to note that property management is indeed excellent and the manager is extremely friendly. The kitchen and bathroom appliances are tip-top, everything is fresh and refurbished.
