Steelworks Biography
Steelworks can be found in the heart of the city surrounded by numerous shops, bars and restaurants. The location of the property couldn’t be better as the University of Sheffield is only a two-minute walk away and Sheffield Hallam University is an eleven-minute walk away.
When wanting to socialize with your friends and neighbours after class, you can enjoy the communal lounge, outdoor cinema, games area, cinema room, sky lounge, karaoke room, rooftop terrace, outdoor area or attend one of the regular events. Residents can make use of the handy study room, gym, bike storage, laundry room and WiFi during their stay. All utility bills are included in the rental price and to ensure you are kept safe and secure, the building is equipped with CCTV.
Steelworks has a wide variety of ensuite and studio rooms to choose from. Studios are the ideal choice if you are looking for a bit more privacy and room to yourself, whereas ensuite rooms are a great option if you enjoy having your own space, whilst being in a more sociable environment.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Staff are horrid, some are racist and others are just plain rude. I have been lied to, belittled and disrespected throughout my entire stay. I’ve had issue after issue with staff, but also with rent payments and maintenance issues. My broken heater took a week to be replaced, in the thick of winter. My mirror was broken when I moved in and was never replaced as I was told. Additionally, at the end of my tenancy, due to an issue on Steelworks’ part, they demanded £550 from me and threatened debt collection if I couldn’t pay up immediately. I would not recommend Steelworks to anybody.

Very good location with modern settings. Accommodation space is great, good size beds, big social kitchen space, reliable and 24/7 security and help available. Would recommend, however I have had some issues with the Wifi but these have been managed and sorted quickly enough in reasonable enough time. Would recommend for any student.

Lovely place to live. It’s nicer to be slightly out the centre but still so close. The staff are so lovely and friendly and anything that breaks get fixed so quickly. There’s a great amount of social and study spaces too.

Love staying here. Very modern facilities. So close to the tram, bus stops and train station and has a local grocery stores close by. The kitchen is very spacious.

I loved living at Steelworks. I highly recommend staying here. What I enjoyed the most were the common areas such as the cinema and the sky lounge, they are very cute. The staff was always friendly, responsive and supportive in receiving my packages. The location is unbeatable, I was 5 minutes away from the school buildings.

My accommodation is one of the best things that I had experienced in Sheffield! However, these scores are affected by the fact that I had been living alone for around half a year. Imagine you had fantastic scenery from your window, a new-built kitchen aiming for 5 ppl but you own it alone, a new common area, etc. It sounds good, doesn't it? However (again), the building materials for each room were not the best ones. Around 2 months before I moved out, I spotted a stain on the kitchen ceiling which I guess it came from the rooftop. One lift did not operate after semester 2 so it took time for a 16-floor-building lift to arrive. The smell from the bin room was also disturbing. And I think it might be inconvenient if you stay in other blocks apart from block D because it will be so far for you to go to the laundry and bin room. One last thing, please keep in mind that if you got injured the staff would not help you much :( So please prepare your first-aid kit.

One of thr best students accommodation, near to city center and the west street is round the corner. The best thing about the accommodation which I really like is the common area and the sky lounge. I'm really heaving a great experience staying at steelworks sheffield.

Steelworks is a great place to live, it's close to the University of Sheffield building and is also close to west street. Any problems i've encountered, they've resolved as quick as possible.

Very close to DIAMOND, 5 minutes walk to school. The location is excellent with a Chinese super and coop across the street. the environment is beautiful and comfortable and all the facilities are new. Staff are very friendly to Chinese people! Full recommendation!
I stayed here on a 51 week contract and the whole residents team have been super accommodating from the very beginning to the very end. They are always around for a chat, and have created a highly friendly environment. The building itself is modern and safe, it has been a pleasure to live here especially as it was my final year as a student. 100% the best property owned by Fresh Student Living in Sheffield :)

rooms are aesthetic and new, with decent space and furniture. en-suite bathroom is really nice - large mirror, good storage, large counter space. walls are pretty sound proof so I haven’t had an issue with any noise. staff are lovely and maintenance tend to help quickly. the only slight downside here is social life, but personally i didn’t mind this because i could bring my uni friends into the social spaces

When looking for places to stay for my final year of university, Steelworks was the perfect fit as soon as I met the lovely staff running the building. They were so welcoming when I first walked in making the process of looking around and moving in so easy and they continue to make my experience here amazing. I wish it was built when I started university as finding it in my final year is a sad one that I cannot stay longer. The newer build next door is run by the same people and I will be trying to find a graduate job in Sheffield so I can live in what is definitely my favourite accommodation I have had in my 4 years in Sheffield. location is fantastic with close proximity to all my engineering lectures and internet is lightning speed which is very important when playing video games. 10/10
My first semester staying at steelworks was amazing! The staff are wonderful always smiling and on hand for anything, they make living here very enjoyable and stress free!They always put on social events and give out freebies which are such a laugh! The facilities at Steelworks are amazing also. They are brand new and very modern. There is a excellent gym, sky lounge, cinema room, karaoke room, study areas and much more. These facilities are usable at anytime and are a great place to find others to get to know, have fun or just focus on your studies. The flats are also why i cannot recommend this place enough. My flat is modern and spacious with plenty of room in the kitchen for cupboard space and cooking, there is also a lounging area in the kitchen which is great. My room and en-suite is also very spacious and high quality with plenty of wardrobe space, desk space and a comfy bed! It is in a great location to both unis & i have booked already for next year !
I honestly cannot recommend this accommodation enough! The staff are absolutely lovely and go above and beyond for all of us, whether its regarding any issues with our rooms/flat, putting on accommodation socials like bingo and quiz nights, collecting parcels, helping us out with settling in and so, so much more. The security he is also very good and very helpful. The flats and our rooms are exactly as advertised, if anything better, and for the price the accommodation is unreal. From looking around other student accommodations and the facilities they have I had no doubt that Steelworks was the best for its price. It is so close to the city centre, all the bars/clubs and both universities (Hallam and Uni of). Love, love, love it here!! :)
The location is great, as it is fairly near the city centre. The staffs are also kind and friendly, and are always eager to help you out on anything. Moreover, all the social spaces and facilities are very clean as it is well maintained and cared for. I would definitely recommend those students to live here at Steelworks.

Steelworks is really good this is mainly due to its location, facilities, and friendly staff. The staffs here are very friendly and they are willing to help if problems were faced. There are also many facilities here such as gym, karaoke and cinema room which makes this place feels so much better as compared to other accommodations. Also, the room layout in Steelworks is different comparing to others which makes it one of a kind.

The reason I think Steelworks really distinguishes itself from its competition is the staff. All staff members are hard-working, diligent, committed and friendly. Issues will be solved on the spot, staff will go out of their way to help you, communication is near instant and completely transparent - head and shoulders above other accommodations. The buildings are so new that a couple aren't even finished yet, so you can expect only the highest quality facilites inside - gym, social room, study room, cinema room, games room, karaoke room, sky lounge, laundry room, etc. , all kept to an immaculate standard by the cleaning staff. Even the smallest of rooms feel quite large thanks to the fantastic interior design perfectly suited to students. The en suite bathrooms are hardly comparable to any of those I've seen offered by other accommodations. - plenty of storage space and a healthy-sized shower with a glass shutter. Beyond worth the price for the experience alone!!
