All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Very good, would recommend. Good value for money
Best accommodation to stay in.
really good accommodation, very close to uni and shops. very friendly team (shoutout to Elaine and Cheryl). not too noisy during all hours of the day.
Great in all aspects, perfect location.
Management and maintenance are extremely nice and fast in resolving problems. However, there are a quite a few problems, such as overly sensitive fire alarms, the laundry system, the elevator and general electrical problems in the flat. The room itself is fine, but a bit dated. The mattresses are horribly soft, the carpet floor is... not very sanitary and the bathroom could see some improvements (mouldy tiles, despite the fan running constantly and the shower heater often delivering burning hot water when turned off before and cold water when turned on. Every interaction with the staff was delightful though and they take concerns seriously! There is a lot of effort on social interactions and events, and the pool table in the common room is a great addition! The Trigon is also very conveniantly located, near to the strain station, shopping centres, university and city centre.
I like it here overall. The pool table and common room offer chance to meet new people and connect internationally. Room is small but convenient enough and common kitchen with a lovely view always offers nice mornings even though it's rainy behind the window✨
It's budget friendly compared to all the other accommodations around Sheffield
It was really good, it was clean, the people at the reception were really helpful and always willing to help. I’ve felt very comfortable during my stay and always appreciated a lot the activities they prepared for us, they were very well thought and always a good opportunity to bond with other residents of the accommodation
It is pretty good. The initial maintenance of the room could be improved on. I feel like they could be stricter with the cleaning since my roommates are a bit lazy about it. The people are eager to help which is nice.
I have lived here for over a year now and the location is great and the staff are friendly, ive never really taken part in social events or used the social space but the facilities are good and when ever I have any issues, they are sorted out quickly.
The Trigon team is super friendly and its a great place to live. Maintenance team is quite efficient and they fix things promptly when required.
I have lived at Trigon for 2 years now. The staff are very friendly and helpful as are the maintenance staff. Some areas in the accommodation have small damage but overall in good condition. Amazing location if you study at city campus. Would recommend.
Great accommodation, great location. Friendly maintenance team and lovely staff.
Great members of staff very helpful and supportive. Nice play to stay in and clean
I am currently at Trigon, it has been 4 months and the experience I got is worth every moment. The events that the accomodation has to offer is really good...
Best decision ever. I love the events that the team organizes.
Overall, it is a really good place with nice location close to university campus, grocery and city center . It was a lovely place to live
Honestly other than some slight issues with management regarding maintenance, and the fact that some of the common rooms were slightly damaged during my stay, it was a wonderful time to be here and I will treasure it for my entire life
Really enjoy living here, staff are super helpful and quick with responses to any questions or issues. Planning to stay for another year too
No issues with the trigon, very good option for the money and only 5 minutes away from most classes
Very welcoming and accommodating, accommodation. All staff are very genuine and look out for all residents. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to apply for a place here :)
I love living at The Trigon, the staff are amazing, especially Cheryl and Elaine. They are so lovely and welcoming and sort out any problems you have. The Trigon is in a great location, has many options, is fab value for money and much more!
Cheryl is wonderful head of the place. She is organizing amazing events and movie nights in accommodation. Also she personally helped me in many ways. Other women and men workers are also very kind and friendly with us . Every time they receive us smiling and enthusiastic face. Trigon will be optimal choice for students from Hallam University. Enjoying and feeling Home which is far from the Home.
The Trigon is a much better value for money than the halls offered by my university. I very appreciate the possibility to extend my contract out of the standard semester length.
It's a nice environment and lovely staff.
The staff are super friendly and the residents are sound. Staff have been very accommodating and I am looking forward to staying at the Trigon next year
Situated near the city centre, easy to commute and friendly staffs.
I am really glad that i choose Trigon. Thank you for your well-provided services Trigon. 100% recommend!
It’s a nice experience for staying here! The staff also very helpful and friendly!
10/10 Value for money 10/10 Friendly staff that care about you and are always happy help 10/10 Maintenence staff that will quickly fix any issues (Shout out to Pete and Robert, you guys are the best) 10/10 Location, 5 minute walk to Aldi, 10 minute walk to City Campus, 5 Minute walk to the Train Station 6/10 Social Room, it's smaller than most other student accoms but on the bright side, you don't have to pay money to use the pool table unlike some other places. 11/10 Laundry room, actually underrated but they have an touch screen terminal to pay for your laundry, so you just tap with your phone and bish bash bosh done. Very convenient. Overall, if you're placed with some good flatmates (which I'm lucky to have), the Trigon is literally one of the best places to live in value for your money wise. I personally, am staying for a second year, because it's that great, so if that's not enough to prove how good this place is, I don't know what would! :)
Good experience and value for money with friendly, helpful staff, would highly recommend
The rooms are a good size with only 3 flatmates. It is roughly a 10min walk from all main facilities including train station, university and Aldi. All the staff are very welcoming and friendly, Cheryl was especially helpful with information about next year's stay! Very good price and great value for money.
My experience at Trigon had been amazing. My uni life was made very smooth because of it. It had been a convenient and safe location and the staff is friendly. Any maintenance issues were resolved promptly. However, there was one experience that I did not like. I was gone out one day and someone came to change the mattress without informing me (everything is usually informed via email). My bedsheet and duvet was on the floor when I arrived and the my bedroom lights were kept on even though I always turn them off. I had even put a sign outside my door to not enter. Despite that experience, I would recommend living at Trigon.
**Review of Trigon Accommodation** Trigon is an outstanding choice for accommodation. They respond promptly to inquiries, ensuring a smooth experience from the start. The service is top-notch, and everything is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. The staff is incredibly helpful, making you feel welcome throughout your stay. The environment is pleasant, and the range of facilities provided is impressive. Highly recommend for anyone seeking quality lodging!

It was a nice space to live with a convenient location but it wasn’t as social as I would’ve hoped.
Hi There! Thank you so much for your review, we are pleased that you found The Trigon a nice place to live. We are sorry you felt that it wasn't as social as you'd hoped. We have recently started working on an in-house events calendar to help support socialisation with peers. We are always taking on feedback and using them to improve, so we appreciate you sharing this with us! Best wishes, The Trigon Team. Acis Students.
The Trigon is in a great central location on Sheffield. A 10 minute walk to the station and near various bus stops. It's very close to city campus but is a 25-30 minute walk from Collegiate campus. My room was nice with a comfortable bed, big desk with four plug sockets and a lamp provided. There is ample space for storage with a chest of draws, shelves and the wardrobe. The bathroom is good with a decent shower, hooks on the door and some space near the sink to put toiletries. The kitchen had plenty cupboards and draws between us. We also had two fridge freezers between 5 of us. There was also a social area with two sofas. Overall the Trigon is good value for money and the staff are super helpful should you need.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are so pleased you enjoy having the Trigon as your home from home. Best wishes, The Trigon team. Acis Students.
I will recommend this accommodation a million times. There are lots of things to enjoy here. The staff are really friendly and professional. I met Cheryl, she’s super amazing! Always ready to help.

The entire trigon staff and security guards were always kind and helpful whenever i was in need of any query related to property and approchable. kindness and empathy can be appreciated for entire team. highly recommended accodomation and budget friendly for students. it is easy to commute to nearby 5 min Rail and Coach station, Big hypermarkets like ASDA,ALDI and Moor markets.
Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words and thank you for booking with us. Best wishes, The Trigon Team. Acis Students.
It does what its there for, good for less affluent students who need to be in the city centre.
Thank you for taking the time to post your review! The Trigon team
Really good location, i like that it is very close to everything
Thanks so much for sharing your review!
Nice spacious rooms and kitchen for cheap prices
Thank you for your lovely review!
Trigon is the place! Really enjoyed my stay.
Proximity to University buildings, Grocery stores, train station, gym and the city centre makes this accommodation stand out from the rest. Great, friendly staff who's willing to resolve issues right away. Overall, a peaceful, student friendly place to stay.
Lovely accommodation and lovely staff will help you with any issue
overall a good accomodation especially good value for money, staff will often help out when needed and it's in a really good location. walking distance to the uni and to the city centre!
The staff were so lovely and helpful
Lovely well placed place to stay for first year
Rooms nothing like website unless you get A block (unlikely as only 10 flats in there). B block smells rank and appliances are all old. Flats are not clean in there. C block smells bad too. I had a leak in my bedroom that they refused to fix for 2 months (would just say it was rain and to deal with it and then pretended to not know about it). The shop downstairs started experiencing a leak and so i was recommended by maintenance to ask reception if i could move rooms (after they broke a hole in my bathroom and left dirt everywhere) and it still wasnt sorted - i had to chase them up and as of writing this i still havent been allocated another room. I wouldn't recommend. £250 deposit that could be taken off you for something that maintenance wont fix or reception pretends doesn't exist.
The Trigon is an okay place to live. A lot of the experience hangs on your flat mates of course, but staff are friendly and the general building feels safe and is clean. However, the rooms will be freezing. The heaters (like most accommodations) are on timers and turn themselves off after a certain amount of time for safety reasons, which means that due to the very thin walls, you will be very cold most of the time. And also, you can hear everything on the other side of said walls. If you are on the lower floors you can hear everything out on the street. When your flatmates come home late you WILL be woken up even if they try to be quiet. If the people in the rooms next to you set an alarm at 7am you WILL be woken up by it. If they talk on the phone just a bit too loud you will hear it. Same goes for the people above you. The plumbing is also terrible. The water leaves pink stains on the sink, wouldn’t drink it if I were you. I suggest going through Unite Students instead tbh
I love it ! A lot of space for meeting people. The city is really nice, lot of things to do
Very nice place, cosy! Love it
The trigon block B. Its been so nice but the only thing i can think is the bathroom im my accommodation was a bit unclean so thats the only bad thing i can think of
great experience! i really like the place and the ppl
Kind staff and good value for money
Great place to stay in. It is year the uni and it is safe and a beautiful area to stay in
I find it very cool. Thank you
I really like the Trigon the staff are really good I appreciate them it's a nice bed and kitchen and it is nice
As a postgraduate international Muslim student, my MSc one-year course was very smooth and stable and the credit goes back to my comfort living in the Trigon. the management team does care and they do their responsibility in the best way they can, they managed the pandemic period professionally and efficiently, and they been crystal clear and honest. During my stay, I felt the highest level of safety and security due to the 24 hours security guard. All my requests have been answered, they are flexible enough with renewing the contract to suit your situation and they have excellent networking with the university, During my 14 days quarantine, they hosted me for free and I received the highest level of help and care, I received two free big food packages delivered to my room door. I’m writing those words while my tears are falling because remembering that I have been treated as human and I never faced any type of racism.
Great location for students on city campus and located close to many bars and clubs in city centre. Flats perfectly adequate and grounds are well kept and looked after. All staff are friendly and approachable. Maybe not as lively as other student accommodations so if you enjoy going out a lot maybe consider somewhere else, however enjoyed my time here and would recommend it to anyone thinking of moving here.
Halls of accomodation are secure and offer great extra facilities at low prices.
An amazing flat for a first year student. So close to the uni itself and I always felt safe
Small rooms, s*** cooking facilities only thing decent is the location near just about everywhere, other than that wouldn't bother
The location of The Trigon is great, possibly one of the best I have seen across the UK in terms of proximity to Uni and other services. However, its very old and run down, very backward look to it. Maintenance are very helpful in terms of getting things fixed and those staff members are very friendly and look to get things fixed. However, at times it has taken them a while to get stuff sorted and things have not always been done to the best standard. Management are also really friendly but can be slightly awkward to work with and sort different things out. They say that they run flat inspections during the tenancy, we have not yet had one, its April. This isn't great as it doesn't necessarily help with the whole upkeep of the building. As students we might not spot a dodgy switch or an issue with our flat. The security staff have been great and are always on hand if needed. The laundry is overpriced and not easy to simply put a wash on. I would not recommend the Trigon to anyone.
Wouldn’t recommend extremely pricey, when you arrive good luck expecting everything in the flat to be clean and working. Lots of faulty electrical they do nothing about them. Also don’t recommend if you’re a disabled student as they leave you extremely vulnerable if anything goes wrong. I’ve been battling to get a releases from tenancy all year due to nasty flat mates. They don’t do anything about it. They just want your money go elsewhere.
WiFi was on and off (academic year 17/18) much more secure than a lot of accommodations, covered smoking area always social. 24/7 security on hand, usually walking around or in office, repairs usually done same week.
Do not stay at Trigon I had a problem I stayed there in my first year of university and in the first week the three people in the rooms next to me quit and moved out just leaving me and one more in my corridor I asked management if I could move so I had more students around me they flatly refused and were very rude I offered to pay a moving fee my parents rang up and management were rude to them too there were lots of spare rooms but would not move me
This place is great if you want good location, helpful staff and suitable accommodation. The rooms must be basic design, a big facility cannot change each room decoration to suit new student. Too many reviews are not honest or they are views of people who do not have discipline and lazy. Every group should clean own flat not expect someone else to do it. If people come to study and are mature they talk to staff and they are very polite and helpful, deal with queries as soon as they can, most immediately. When people make bad reviews about flat not clean and staff not good they are not helping for others because it is personal choice of lazy people without manners. Some good reviews are honest like rooms small and basic but adequate, wifi mostly ok and safe site and excellent staff. This is helpful. If you want to be lazy and expect to live in luxury big room with own personal cleaner and room service you need a 5 star hotel. Management staff work hard to help. They are excellent.
Great location for the uni and city centre. Lots to do in the area, staff are friendly, approachable and helpful and will go out of their way to help. Generally well managed and efficient.
I’ve stayed here for 3 years and I don’t even no why. It’s close to campus and close to the train station to escape home. I think it’s a family run business. The 2 managers are mother and daughter and one of the repair guys is their partner and I don’t no about the others. Having observed the staff at The Trigon and speaking with them, everyone is lovey apart from the management who sit in the back room as they are very un-helpful and quite nasty. Our friend in another flat stayed in mine for weeks as she was scared to go to hers and management wouldn’t do anything about
They will try and take as much money off you as possible. So overpriced for what you get, cleaners are so mardy. Only stay here at a last resort.
It’s s***. Don’t bother. Live in a cardboard box instead.
When I was assigned to live at the Trigon I was kind upset but I have learned to love the Trigon. The location is great for uni and nights out and it feels like a safe place to live. All of the staff are really nice and helpful. However, the wifi sometimes doesn't workout I think it depends on where your flat is, the rooms especially the bathrooms and kitchens need updating. The tap water isn"t great. Overall I really enjoyed my time at the Trigon because I met my best friend.
Okay, so my 2 flatmates and I were landed with this guy. Smoked in his room, had people around at 2-3 am, yelling constantly, having pre-drinks... All things that I put up with at first, until it got to a month in and we got fed up. We complained and the staff were helpful at first... at first. When we got evidence against said flatmate and one of my other flatmates and I tried to get said person kicked out for anti-social behaviour the staff didn't want to know, sent us on a wild goose chase around the uni trying to find someone who would take us seriously. No action was taken. If you want to feel safe, don't stay here.
I wouldn’t stay here ever again if somebody paid me, i’ve been put into a horrendously situation to the point i’m not staying in my own flat because i feel unsafe and yet i’m still being forced to pay excessive rent payments on top of train tickets to go home just to feel safe, there’s nothing that implements that people keep social areas clean and my kitchen is disgusting, the wifi works about two hours a day and the office team have done next to nothing to help anyone that needs them, absolutely appauling and not worth the money at all, luckily it is 5 minutes away from the train station so you can get away quickly.
Good location, the university campus is a 5-10 minute walk. All local bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs are either walking distance or a £5 taxi fare. Rooms are OK, will need to make them home yourself as they can be abit plain. Ensuites are great. 3 inspections throughout the year, penalties for damage and cleaning services etc. Quite spacious living/kitchen areas. If you need a good nights sleep, there tends to be music playing from above, below or next door just for that bit of help staying awake! The wi-if has its ups and downs, most of the time it is fine for general social media, videos. However from time to time the wi-if turns off and you have to phone their external provider for help not the Trigon team. Do not really see many other students day to day unless you make the effort to interact. Get on the Trigon facebook page and make some friends.
Good but very expensive for what you get. The constant inspections, water temp checks and shower chlorination checks are a ballache.
I am not an overly social person, I am uncomfortable in new social situations and find it incredibly difficult to deal with the anxieties involved in interaction with new people, this is why I asked to be placed with other quiet people who are preferably on my course. My request has basically been ignored... There are many other places available where you could spend a lot less than £1,600 a month for a 4 person living arrangement with more space, and with people you choose to be around.
Very private and quiet, it's in a prime location next to the train station and only 10mins from the university and city centre, definitely recommend
Good location for City campus, close to train station and the city centre - also close to most of the clubs for nights out. Wouldn't recommend if you want the social side of it, common room isn't used much and don't really see many people around. I would recommend making as much friends as possible during freshers week, I.e people on your floor. I didn't do initially, but I do now get on with all of them. Flat inspections 3 times in the year, our flat is always a tip, we don't really clean it so its our own fault. Management and staff are lovely and you can have a chat with them. Rooms are quite small and don't feel like home, try and put some photos and fairy lights to make it more bearable.
Lovely people, very safe! Great location and nice rooms/kitchen.
Great location, i was lucky to have social halls! good for money. However, they are strict when something is broken. Some rooms were good, some not so good. Kitchens were nice!
Fantastic place and fantastic staff. Love it here.
Trigon is in between most things, 15 minutes away from both campus by foot. Easy routes for taxis to and from clubs and not far from train station if you need to go meadowhall or more importantly home !
Not bad, shower was awful though and rooms weren't properly clean when we moved in. Staff are 50:50 - most are lovely, but some are creepy and not nice
Great accommodation. A bit pricey but definitely worth it.
