University of Sheffield
Sheffield Hallam University
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The accommodation is very nice for that price but it has no gym which is not cool.
Great location but it doesn’t have much study space
Overpriced. I live in a 2 bedroom flat and I don't get what I pay for. I do not have an oven, only a mini fridge, cleaning equipment such as Hoovers have not been provided. My laundry is provided by circuit yet again another over priced service - ~£5 for a wash and dry that barely accomplishes the desired tasks. My flat has still not had its faults fixed despite being here for around a month. Also despite there being a no smoking policy the halls often smell of cigarettes. You are billed if you cannot attend the FREE events that you signed up for at a price around 1.5x the amount it would cost to do the event independently. Other residents are quite frankly rude, if you have your hands full they wont keep the door open for you to come in. One particular security guard tried to hit on me and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Ridiculous rules on having people over - even in my university owned flat I did not have to sign my friends in.
nice decoration, modern equipment, close to campus
Overall good 👍 clean environment and warm-hearted staff
Good staff, convenient location
Perfect. Very very very very good.
AMAZING LIVING EXPERIENCE Highly recommended
I moved here in September 2020. I was entirely on my own in a 7 person flat. I’d signed a contract to live with 6 other people and not only was I looking forward to having a good student experience, I also knew I needed one other person to live with in order to feel safe and to maintain good mental health. When I got there, I was welcomed and I moved all my things into my flat. It was quiet and I didn’t see any other students. After being out in Sheffield for the day buying things I needed for my flat, I returned to find that still no one had moved in, and I still didn’t see anyone walking around. I felt alone and so headed down to reception to ask when my flat mates would be coming, to receive the news that noone was moving in and I was going to be living alone for the rest of the year. They didn’t tell me this prior to moving nor when I arrived. The time I was living there was awful and I became extremely down. They disregarded my mental well-being and I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
It is a good accommodation for students. I enjoyed my time there.
Worst experience living here for a year!! Avoid this place. Flatmates were impolite, apathetic and flat was dirty, full of trash and with wasted rotting food everywhere in counters and floor. Complained with Sharman Court more than a couple of times and they just put some posters everyone ignored. I posted papers in the kitchen door reminding people to bin their trash and clean their stuff but they never did anyways... I had to clean the place all the time and put the trash away of everyone. Social spaces were ok but banned after covid and still banned in August when even pubs are open!! The same with the every two weeks superficial cleaning of flats, suspended since March and no sign of coming back soon. I asked about that but just got ignored... And please advise people that this is a Chinese community accommodation. I don't have any issue with that but it's difficult to adapt when everyone around you is just speaking Chinese all the time And on top of all, wifi didn't work in m room
It’s too warm in my studio. The fresh air is hard to get into my room...
good value for money, great location, kind managers.
Excellent location, not far from most of the departments of the University of Sheffield, near the Diamond library. The staffs are very friendly and warmhearted. The room is large enough, with regard to the money we paid. Social room is small. The light in the study room turns off every 15 minutes automatically, unless someone moves. Also the hobs in dorms, turning off every 15 mins, which is quite inconvenient for cooking. Wireless network is poor.. Overall Sharman Court is good, but not the best.
All the services are very good, but I haven't received my deposit refund yet!! It has been two months, please contact me!
The staff are very kind and kind to every tenant!
That is a nice place. I have been met good staff and many friends there. To be honest, the price is a little bit expensive because the room seems smaller than other accommodations. The environment of the building and services are excellent.
The location is awsome for most of students, a Coop grosery near the apartment is just convenient. One thing really making me love this place is the sound insulation, since I've lived in other building and most of them does not have good sound insulation. For the people who dis like hearing sound during sleep is a up side. Down side is that some people smoke in the square which cause bad smell for the people living towards the square, this thing might needs to be improved. other than that, everything seems settled.
The flat is located in the best location for me! It takes 10 mins to Arts tower and a few minutes to diamond and city center. Chinese shops, coop and tesco are close to the flat. The reply and repair are great and I really like the flat! I shared a big kitchen with my roommates and they are very nice. Common space is nice but the study room is relatively small. Overall, I spent a good time here. Thank you so much.
Very value apartment. Especially free printing will be good at students who wanna study. All the staff in Sharman Court are friendly. Very close to coop and city center. Recommend all the students who study at Sheffield lot University to live in Sharman Court! Thanks the staff in Sharman Court a lot for creating a nice atmosphere when I was in the UK.
Good location within walking distance of the supermarket, university buildings and the city centre. Supportive hall management team and various kinds of social activities across the year.
The location is very good. Although some of the room space is small. but the kitchen space is huge!
Good location and easy to get supermarket
I think those who want to study instead of socialing should live in this building. It is near to the diamond and other study buildings. Except that, the coop and panda market is quiet near.
I lived in Sharman court for two years and I didn’t consider to change any accommodation.
Sharman Court has good location, good service and good environment. Staffs are all helpful and friendly.
A convenient place to live. There is a co-op (supermarket) right downstairs and a Chinese restaurant 3-minute walk away. Close to Diomond(library) and the city Centre. The equipment inside the flat are quite new and easy to use. However, the kitchen cleaning is not very often which means you have to clean by yourself sometimes or remind the staff.
The scenery outside the room window is not good enough. Something, there is a bit noisy in the evening because of the noisy pedestrians and vehicles.
One of the best student accommodation in Sheffield. Just opposite of NHS walk-in centre and University Building (Palm Liversidge). 3 mins walk to Diamond (Library) and 1 min walk to North Campus. Coop and chinese supermarket are just besides the building and 3 mins walk to West Street. Staffs are very friendly and have 24 hour security even on Sunday. Best student accommodation so far!!!
Sharman Court is a fantastic place to live, the rooms are perfect for students and the main areas of the building are always clean. The staff are friendly too. They do put on social events and days where you can get freebies etc. however several haven't actually happened this year which was a little annoying. The wifi is okay however the provider doesn't give a secure connection and I have had problems with not being able to connect.
