The building and staff are amazing they are so helpful. Think in my first year it would have been nice to do a few social events to get to know other first years/ residents but I didn’t see any. However all the facilities are well kept and easy to use.

The Gate Biography
The Gate offers residents contemporary yet comfortable student accommodation, ideally located in the city. Getting to class couldn’t be easier as Sheffield Hallam University is located directly opposite the residence, whilst The University of Sheffield is only a twenty-minute walk away. Sheffield train station is only a nine-minute walk away and the city centre is just a three-minute walk away, providing convenient living.
You can enjoy having fantastic social spaces including, a TV snug, roof terrace, games room, lounge and gym. If you are looking to meet the neighbours you can attend one of the many residents' events. There is a handy vending machine, cycle store and study room available for you to use. For your added benefit there is an on-site residents’ team, Wi-Fi, contents insurance, CCTV and all bills included in the rental price.
There is a range of purposefully built en suite rooms and studios to choose from. Should you choose to stay in an en suite room you and your flatmates can enjoy communal living as there is a shared kitchen and living room. If you prefer privacy, the studio rooms will be the ideal choice as you will have your own mini-kitchen.

I live in a studio apartment at The Gate that I share with my boyfriend. We have loved living at The Gate this year because of the amazing location which is just a 5 minute walk away from the city campus. I love living at The Gate because of the amazing social spaces on offer (which are available every hour of the day) and the lovely rooms which offer great views of Sheffield city centre and beyond. The building also offers a lovely study space with a printer that residents can use at a very small cost and a great roof Terrance that my and boyfriend have enjoyed many sunny evenings on while admiring the amazing views. We have enjoyed living here so much this year that we have decided to book another studio for next year, while we continue with our studies. I couldn’t recommend living at The Gate enough to anyone who is starting at Sheffield Hallam university in September.

Gym isn’t 24 hours. Have to talk to someone to swap your ID to get a gym pass or the hoover. Had I known those 2 things then I wouldn’t have moved in. The washing is very expensive, couldn’t afford it a lot. I thought the roof terrace thing was a smoking area, turns out it’s not and there is no area for a smoker to socialise. Overall, I highly regret moving. My room was tiny and felt like a prisoner all year. The staff are friendly and pretty caring, they were the best things about the place. My desk chair broke early after moving, I was charged £50 even though I did not do anything to it. Bathroom keeps flooding and other problems I refused to inform anyone about because I didn’t want to get charged for something that wasn’t my fault again.
The BEST place to stay as a first year sheffield hallam student. As a city campus student, this couldn’t be more central to the uni buildings. The team working at the gate are absolutely amazing, always hosting fun things for us and interacting with residents on their social media! A welcome party with free pizza and freebie Fridays?! So so good. Any issues we’ve ever had regarding maintenance etc are sorted out really promptly and it’s really easy to log these via the app. The rooms are lovely and really modern. And there’s plenty of options for social spaces outside of your flat, the common room and the sky lounge, the gym!! Would 100% recommend & if I didn’t have a house sorted for second year, I’d be staying here again! :)

It’s really nice here! There’s usually something to do within the week and the study spaces are so good. Rooms are kind of small but have enough space to store everything :) Me and my flat are staying again next year!

Overall high quality and really good service. My service requests are always done early by the next day. All rooms have a comfortable and modern design. Price is one of the highest I saw but is completely worth every penny I would say.
It's a great place to stay, Very Cooperative staff maintain this property very well, the studio apartments are so comfy and there are so many other amenities like communal kitchen, gym, common rooms, and study room which makes our life very easy.😊😊

The gate is a nice place to live, it’s in a convenient area so you’re close to both uni and town, the girls at reception are always so friendly and helpful. the kitchen/lounge area is very spacious so it doesn’t feel cramped when you and all your flatmates are in there at once. the rooms are very soundproof from your next door flat mate and outside the windows too.
This is a fab place to stay if you are a student based at Sheffield Hallam City Campus. It’s right in the centre of Sheffield with exceptional links to the city centre such as the shopping strip known as The Moor as well as knew small businesses that sell amazing food options which is all culturally different. The staff are very helpful with any problem you have and the maintenance team are rapid at fixing problems in your living space. The reception staff are so friendly and polite whenever you go to them for any problem. There is many student events advertised around the building that help you meet new people with similar interests to you. There is also great common rooms on every floor to help you meet your neighbours. I have loved living here and would recommend this place to any first year students up to your final year as students.

The Gate is a really good place to stay, it’s in an amazing location everything like the uni, shops, restaurants are all a really short walk. It is on the more expensive side but in my opinion worth it compared to what i’ve heard/seen about other accommodations. The bathrooms are pristine they look like hotel ones and the bedrooms and kitchens are really nice and modern. Ive really enjoyed my experience at the gate and have booked for next year! :)
The gate was a nice place to stay for my first year of uni. I am moving to a cheaper one for next year because this one was too expensive. The rooms and kitchen are modern and nice but little things like not having our own hoover, kettle or iron in our shared flat is disappointing for such an expensive accommodation. One of the reasons i’m moving to a less expensive one which includes all of these. The staff were all friendly and I always felt safe and secure as soon as I entered. The location was perfect so close to city campus, clubs, the Moor and restaurants. The social spaces were large but I rarely used them. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the Gate it was just a shame I ended up with messy flat mates who made me not want to cook and eat because of how disgusting the kitchen was. I sort of wish (even though it is the residents responsibility) that the staff could have tried to talk to our flat seen as a few of us had complained. But other than that I liked the Gate.

I think the gate is really nice and comfortable to live in. Very quiet at night too. The interior design is also very simple. Combining various factors, it is really a very cost-effective accommodation

This is lovely accommodation. The gate was willing to give me a place to stay when I was urgently looking for a short term rental. Everyone here is warm and welcoming. The flats are clean and well equipped and very convenient. The layout of the rooms is also very comfortable and makes you feel at home. All in all, I love it here! Would love to stay here for a long time. I would recommend the gate to everyone coming to Sheffield.

Rooms are very nice but would recommend making sure you look before booking. some rooms are dark and don’t get the most light, same with the kitchens. lots of study areas and stuff. overall a great place to live in

I’ve spent the last two years living here. The staff are exceptionally helpful, always polite and willing the help. The building and rooms are modern, clean and fit for purpose. The facilities are brilliant. The price is slightly more expensive than other student properties but considering the facilities and service is it worth it.

Pleasant, modern student accommodation. However rooms are a lot smaller than made out and struggle to fit two people in. In a flat of 9 but kitchen only has 2 fridge/freezers so not even a shelf each. Also cupboard space is minimal. On several occasions the staff in reception have wrongly placed my parcels with another flats number although clearly stating the right one, when pulled up they joked it off. Staff can be abrupt and not very helpful, and although advertised to do social events not many are held. Apart from this it’s in a great location for the city campus and many things nearby, also facilities such as the gym and common areas are great to use.

Been an absolute joy living here this year! I had an absolute nightmare with my last accommodation but moving to the gate was the best decision I’ve made. The staff are all very welcoming and resolve any issues you have promptly. The modern building is amazing with so much space to socialise and study. I chose a studio this year but have socialised in other shared flats and every room is well worth the money. I would definitely recommend The gate to anyone, I’d say it’s the best accommodation in Sheffield! My only complaint is that studios do not have an oven like shared flats do, so I invested in an air fryer (Studios have hobs and a combi-microwave), but for £40 an air fryer will do most jobs anyways!

Absolutely superb!!! Great value for money, staff are caring and attentive; I feel as if they actually care unlike other place where it’s just a pay check! Haven’t had much of a social experience due to COVID, however there have been online quiz nights and treasure hunts which were very entertaining to say the least 😂

As a third year student, this has been the ideal place for me to live in the last year of my study. Central to Sheffield there is close transport links to my workplace and to travel home, as well as easy access to the university campus and shops and restaurants in town. It’s a shame that living in the pandemic we haven’t been able to make proper use of the facilities but I’m sure they will thrive in the future, the reception staff have been great at handling any troubles - thankyou!!

Stayed during the pandemic so couldn’t access all facilities, however if we were able to it would have been a better overall experience. I did enjoy my stay however despite this and the staff provided a friendly atmosphere. The building was also very modernised and clean and the views from the upper levels made the stay worthwhile
