All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Great facilities, location and social spaces. A nice sense of community. Staff are friendly and reliable.
Thank you for your review, we are very grateful. It's lovely to hear you like our Curbar block. It's a great location in the heart of the Ranmoor/Endcliffe site. There is loads to do with events in The Ridge and The Hub, The Edge bar have great themed evenings and there is a village store for essential items. I am glad to hear you find the staff friendly and reliable. We aim to please and want our students to have a great time while they are staying with us and have the best experience possible. Best wishes, Sharon
Curbar is an excellent placement within the student village. It is close to the village shop and the centre without the added noise in the evenings. A bus stop is right outside, making getting to school quick, and the facilities are worth the cost.
Thank you for your review! I’m really pleased to hear you’re enjoying your time in Curbar. It really is in a great location! As you mentioned, the bus stop is a great perk for getting around easily, and if you haven’t already, I’d definitely recommend checking out the Ranmoor Fitness Suite! Of all the Endcliffe blocks, Curbar is probably the most convenient block for access, offering a great way to stay active for free! If you ever need anything else, feel free to get in touch with our Customer Service team at acs-customerservices@sheffield.ac.uk. Best wishes,Danny 🧔🏻
Clean, good facilities really enjoyed staying at the green.
I made great friends in endcliffe, the fact it is a self contained park with all you need right on your doorstep is great, it is quite a long walk to uni though
Very expensive and some aspects are disappointing, such as the shower and the cleanliness of the rooms when I moved in. However, a very safe and sociable atmosphere. Also not a fan of the orange wall!
Decent value for money, and good WiFi (on the lower floors), but pretty far away from Uni and the Edge isn't really all it's cracked up to be.
Modern albeit tiny room! Great outdoor space though.
Accommodation is lovely and relatively new, it is far from the lectures especially for engineers but after a couple of weeks you adjust to the walk, there are good social spaces in the kitchens, nothing for the block but that doesn't matter. It's a really lovely community.
