Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
I have been in West Bar House for one semester now and here is my opinion: - I love my studio. It is spacious, cozy, and the view is calming. - Sometimes the whole management bureaucracy can take a while. But I assure you that our manager Amy does her best and goes even beyond to make us comfortable. - Not a lot of people hanging around the common area and generally quiet. Perfect for introverts. - On the downside, it is true that the internet connection fluctuates a lot and pray that you don't have a noisy neighbour next to you.
Would definitely recommend Westbar House!! Everyone is very friendly, clean spacious apartments and great facilities. 5*
The studio was very clean when I moved in and the check-in process was fairly easy. Simon is very professional. He’s always helped me with any of my queries. The building is always tidy
1 month in and I'm already feeling at home. Simon the manager has been absolutely helpful and friendly since I was still booking to the date I wrote this, and it's always lovely to greet him on my way in and out. My deluxe studio is cosy, appliances working well when I need them, and I have all the things to make me feel comfortable. I love how I can finally pick up cooking skills while wearing light clothes with all my ingredients and snacks stored safely in my own fridge. And with the price (compared to a lot of other places' studios I stumbled across during my search), it's a win for me. I do think there is no such thing as a perfect, flawless place, but all downsides during my stay have been trivial compared to the comfort and at-home feeling of staying here, far away from the country I came from.
Exceptional Student Accommodation: Westbar House I recently had the privilege of residing at Westbar House, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. Managed by the incredibly professional and kind-hearted Simon, this accommodation truly stands out in every aspect. The rooms here are all studios, which is perfect for students who want their own space. They are also very cost-efficient, so you won't find a better place for the price. The property has good connectivity and amenities, including a fully equipped gym, communal study rooms, and a large common room. There are also plenty of food and grocery shops nearby, and the main street with all the banks is just a short walk away. For students, location is key, and Westbar House nails it. The optimal distance to both universities makes commuting a breeze, giving you more time to focus on your studies and enjoy your university experience. Overall, Highly recommended!
The two biggest benefits to this accommodation are the value for money and the management. I was very impressed at how much below the average this accommodation cost for the year, while still providing everything I need. Having limited finances for the year, living at Westbar has allowed me to live a better student life. I've also lived as a student in Sheffield for nearly 4 years now and this location is the best. Close to both Universities, near the city centre, the station, and on the doorstep of Kelham island. Simon is a top guy and goes above and beyond what is expected for a property manager. To illustrate, I left Sheffield and went home for the holiday. I desperately required some information on a document that was left in my room and I emailed Simon on the off-chance that he was in office on the bank holiday. He was not but offered to go into my room and sort it for me! The only thing I'd say is that the flat doors tend to slam a bit! Regardless, I'd easily recommend!
Ideal place to chill after study. Infrastructure is nice. Room is Clean and safe. Receptionist is friendly and nice. Feel just like home.
Helena is a warm-hearted person, and her work is very conscientious and responsible. I'm a little procrastinating, especially when submitting some materials, but she has been urging me and Fortunately, all of things goes smoothly because of her. I'm the new one, there are many details I don't know.but she can always help me to solve the problem immediately and very enthusiastic.
I'm glad I chose to live here. Very warm big family. Reception Helena is very kind and helpful. Every day I live here is a pleasure.
Very nice student house. Not luxurious but very homely. I had a comfortable and enjoyable time here. The management of the flat was also very satisfactory and any problems were resolved promptly. The rules are reasonable and do not interfere with normal life. The staff are very friendly and their help is very much appreciated. Special thanks to Helena for her help and joy during the last days of my stay. She also managed to solve some troublesome problems very quickly. If I were to stay in Sheffield for my future studies, I would choose this place again!
good service。 the reception is extremely good ,not only nice but also patient
Dale and Helena are really nice!! They are always thoughtful and friendly to every of us. There are desserts or drinks when festival is coming which are really delicious. Though it is a little bit far from Diamond, but it really worth the money spent here.
Great value for its price, saves a lot of money if you choose westbar house and the reception hold events frequently. It's a peaceful place for studying.
I have enjoyed my stay over here value for money
The accommodation is great with excellent services. The accommodation also provides free drinks and snacks once a week. However, there are problem with the wifi packet loss.
The apartment is safe and there are free desserts and drinks every week, and the Simons are so nice!! Very nice and thoughtful attitude!! This apartment, and Simon in particular, makes me feel like I'm at home even if I am in overseas. I love this apartment!!
Excellent service from Simon! Any issues with my room were fixed the same day, he even stayed after hours one time which was greatly appreciated ☺️
Westbar House is a great accommodation. The rooms are designed we'll and is substantial for a living. The property manager Simon is so friendly and has a solution for everything. He take that extra edge to help and never said no for anything. He is a stress buster at the accommodation, without him my living at the accommodation wouldn't have been this easy. The accommodation is quite well maintained and has all the essential facilities. If I could continue to live in here, I would have. There is nothing to complain or point out. Everything here is made easy and trouble-free to live.
Super nice reception, super nice learning room and gym, everything here is beyond the imagination,I hope I could still live in here next year if I continue on the rent successfully!!!
Probably the best student accommodation in all of Sheffield. Not only do they have group activities, nice room hardware, but they have the best managers in the world! I will definitely continue to live here next year!
Very friendly accommodation with nice clean spaces
Excellent service I really like this place
The location it’s really pretty good and easy to go to the city centre for shopping or any daily things. I love living here the staffs are absolutely amazing especially the property managers Simon, he always happy to help me and chat all the time such a lovely person. Even they having a cycle parking it’s really helping me to keep my cycle really safe. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone studying in Sheffield
nice, clean + modern, really great staff, secure letter boxes for everyone and staff held on to it for you if it didn’t fit, lovely room, felt really at home :)
In a nutshell: Awsome managers Reasonable price Great position If you're looking for a place to sleep during your term, I'd totally recommend Westbar House! A bit more in detail, now. I stayed here for a year and a couple of lockdowns. It's not always been easy: these places are designed to sleep in, not to "live in" for most of your day. But with the easing of the restrictions, it became much more enjoyable. I can't praise enough the managing staff. Both Christian and Simon have been incredibly friendly, helpful and patient. You just need to ask and they'll sort most of the accommodation issues in no time. Not much to say about the room. The furniture is standard Ikea, but it does the job. There's less storage space than it looks due to the bins and the sink stealing some cupboard space. Just grab a few plastic drawers from Wilko (they cost about 7£ each) and you'll be ok. It's still student accommodation, though, so expect some loud music and slamming doors occasionally ruining
The location of the property the facilities and the management is top!! I rent a studio with a beautiful balcony and we also have a gym that I like to use as it very convenient and included in the price. My favourite feature of the property is the roof terrace where I enjoy to drink my coffee in those sunny days and socialize. Lastly , the property manager Mr Simon is the best as he is always helpful and really taking care of this property standards. He is also very friendly and makes my day a bit nicer every time I see him in the reception.
Have had a great first experience of Sheffield with Westbar house, thanks to a friendly property manager making life at home very comfortable, particularly with the strain of the covid lockdown. Always ready to help whatever the query, have never had a issue which could not be fixed with ease. Highly recommend
Great accommodation, always lovely freebies in the foyer and comfortable study and social spaces. Also Simon, the building manager, is super friendly and helpful!
West bar house is an amazing accommodation for any type of students! I am always welcomed into reception with a big smile from Simon the property manager. He’s is always a helping hand when needed and is always easy to get a hold of (important!). I would highly recommend staying here at West Bar House :)
Really love my studio space, the view I get and the facilities in this Accomodation. Very rarely do you get a gym, constant amazing hospitality from staff and clean space in one student accom, but Westbar has it all. Simon is literally the best property manager! Always ready to help and listen to any issues you have. Highly recommend! My stay here so far has made me consider doing a PhD, so I can live here again!
Westbar House is a very good student accommodation and its just a short distance from Sheffield Hallam Uni and the property is very neat, quiet with state of the art facilities. The property is managed very well with the help of the property manager. He’s ever ready to help with whatever issues you might be having. Simon has a solution to everything!!!.. He’s our ‘Mr fix it’ and is the highlight of our stay at Westbar House.
Westbar House is a lovely place to live. Simon the property manager is the highlight of the place. He is always happy to render a helping hand. He is industrious , hardworking and creative. You have a problem on the property Simon is right on it.
As people very easily tend to write negatives reviews, I just wanted to leave evidence of positive feedbacks, specifically about a member of the staff working at WestBar House, Simon the property manager, he is always there for any question, enquiry or need that any of us (the students might need. At the same time, and in relation with the actual situation, Simon helped us by communicating with higher position of the company on behalf of us ( one thing that I very much appreciate). Also he knew how to understand us and find a solution that was convenient for everyone. Lastly to say that there is no day that he does not receive you with a smile and happy face, one thing that makes anyone’s day. I hope all these helps to considerate more those ones who are in the front of the line dealing with all the issues that comes with this period.
Westbar house building is my accommodation. I like the price of my studio and it is cozy enough for my lifestyle. It would have been nice to have multiple places to choose from that are near the city center and not only Westbar house since it is a bit far from the university of Sheffield. The staff is lovely and Mr.Simon is nice. I like everything in the building but would prefer if we had more socials (COVID or not).
Overall positive experience. Clean common areas, modern rooms and the property manager is very helpful and attentive. Totally recommend.
