University of Plymouth
Arts University Plymouth
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Pros: Best place to live in Plymouth. Absolutely worth the money. Highly reliable in terms of maintenance and comfort. Feels extremely like home Cons: Bit far from some uni buildings. Fire alarm's a bit annoying
It is a little pricer than other accommodations but is reasonable for what you get and the location. The staff are very friendly and quick to respond so I hope to be staying next year too!
very quick to respond to any maintenance issues and the staff are friendly. lots of storage space in rooms and a good size for the price you pay.
Unfriendly staff! Overall okay accommodation but very expensive.
it’s very expensive for what you get considering it’s circuit laundry as well. gym is basic and sofas are not comfortable or inviting
Spacey rooms and kitchen, everything in amazing condition. Best uni accommodation in Plymouth for a great cheaper price and rooms are in great condition. 5 minute walk to Plymouth university and right near to some shops. Staff are so lovely. Definitely recommend
Good overall for the location, money, and social areas. Friendly reception staff, very good Ethernet accessibility and speed, wireless can have connection issues but otherwise fast. Common room with a pool table and tv with extras is a great idea
This is a great accommodation, I moved into a standard en-suite September 2021 and I love it! The kitchen is great, very spacious and lots of storage with a comfortable sitting area and tv. The room are very well kept, lots of cupboard space and the en-suite is so nice. Much better than uni Accomadation. There’s also a common room which is cozy.
I used to stay in one of the studios at Mary Parker for one year ... I have to say it was a nice experience , It’s close from the Main Campus around 10 min walk ...The Stuff are Friendly and The Maintenance team was good and used to fix my issues quickly... There is Spar , Tesco and Co-op Supermarkets in a walking distance. It’s in a good quiet and safe neighborhood and my flat mates where not noisy . I would love to come back to Mary Parker again in the future. I recommend it specially for first year and international students .
Amazing accommodation! 5 mins from Uni and right by the train station! Brilliantly managed by the super lovely Lauren! She is super helpful and very accmodating! She made sure that I have everything I need in my stay in a prompt and smooth manner! 5 stars in every department!
I have also lived in university halls in the student village and Mary Parker is so much better in comparison. You get lots more for your money and the staff have been absolutely lovely. Would recommend!
I did not feel very safe at MPH. There were several times where security was breeched or insufficient.
Would have been 5 stars for most but social spaces were closed due to Covid, which meant I couldn’t use all the facilities or meet as many people as hoped. However staff were nice and the flats/ rooms were well maintained.
Living at Mary Parker House for the past academic year has been an absolutely delightful experience! All the staff are so friendly and helpful and strive to make MPH a convenient and comfortable place to live! They were understanding and helpful when I had to book an extra week before the start of my contract and delay payment of the 1st instalment until I had received my student finance payment. Maintenance is always up to date and any reported issues are dealt with properly. You can always rely on the staff to collect and store your mail safely for you. Your well-being and comfort really are key to the staff, and they ensure to always keep up a welcoming environment. The facilities are excellent - on-site laundry, gym, and common room. The standard ensuite is the perfect size for me, with a modern bathroom, and the kitchen has plenty of space and is well equipped. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed living here and would highly recommend to anyone considering living here!
It has been fantastic here, the staff are very nice, even though this year was very difficult with COVID and everything, I still had a wonderful time living here and definitely recommend this place to everyone
The experience at Mary Parker House has been a divided one due to the effect of COVID-19 keeping me away from the building but in the time that I have spent in the building I have always felt safe comfortable and content. The staff are exceptionally lovely they treat even the smallest of problems like it's a priority and they have always kept me in the loop when problems have arisen and dealt with them swiftly. The surrounding area is less than perfect, the people of the city being on more than one occasion rather unagreeable but the building is indeed a good escape from this. I can only recommend Mary Parker House and regret that I have not spent as long there as I would have liked.
Really nice place and the rooms are really spacious! I think the access to mutley and the train station is good but was a little far from other halls. Because of Covid I wasn’t able to get much social experience as I would’ve liked but I know in a different year it would be better!
The staff are the true prize of this accommodation! So kind and caring! I lived my room and have made friends for life
Nothing can be faulted. The staff are very welcoming and loving. Wouldn’t recommend anywhere else!! Very efficient too😁 thanks MP for a fab weird year❤️
Overall I've had a good time here at Mary Parker House. The rooms are very modern and clean with great social spaces in the common room and onsite gym. The kitchen is a great size and has been a really nice social space to cook and chill and watch TV with my flat mates. The staff are lovely, Mark is always about to help with anything maintenance, Lynn is such a beam of sunshine down at reception, and Lauren, the new house manager has already made massive improvements to the management of the house since taking over. I've had a great social experience here and you really do feel part of the family with regular flat competitions and quizes. One word of caution is that this is right beside the train track which can be quite loud however you do really get used to then. And another point to be aware of, CRM Students (the company that tuns the house) refused refunds or rent rebates during the 3rd lockdown - the staff here are lovely, but the management company are quite frankly dreadful.
Such a lovely place to live. Amazing staff, great rooms, really is a home away from home
Amazing experience staying at Mary Parker hence why me and my friends decided to stay here for our three years of study. The accommodation team are super friendly, the location is perfect (being right next to the train station, mutely plain and the university) plus Mary Parker is really safe, feeling like a home from home. I really recommend staying here to all students especially first years. You’ll get settled really quick and meet loads of amazing people
Good Accommodation with big rooms.
Very good accommodation. Rooms are modern and are well ventilated so when it was hot I was able to keep cool and when it was cold the radiator in my room worked a charm. Walls are also reasonably noise proof I could hardly hear any of my flatmates in their rooms. Kitchens were also good with two large fridge freezers and lots of cupboard space. WiFi as in most student accommodation was great and the on site staff were super friendly would always say hello and were always good for a chat. However, there was a bit of unsociable behaviour from a few of the residence that put myself and a lot of others at unease which I wished more was done to punish them. My only real complaint about the building is the fire alarms are overly sensitive. On a few occasions it would go off and it would be as a result of people burning sausage rolls and then the alarms will blare until someone come to turn them off which is rather disruptive. However, overall the accomodation is great.
Rebooked for next year! It’s amazing
Lovely clean place, good rooms, nice and Modern with good space to socialise, 10 minute walk from campus
