(Stayed 19/20). I want to say that the flats at Frobisher House are really nice. They’re all modern, double beds, good en-suites and the kitchens are kitted out with everything you could need. That’s if things work. The maintenance staff are lovely but they work very slowly (if at all) to fix your issues. I only had one of two light working in my bedroom since I moved in, reported on the first day and it was never fixed. There was always problems in the kitchen. The kitchen appliances aren’t great but we got by. It didn’t seem like rooms and social areas were thoroughly checked before we moved in. The reception staff (reception is at Old Dairy) are quite rude, as are the security. We had an experience with them entering unannounced and without good reason at 3am which is completely unprofessional. Although the halls are nice and in a great location, I didn’t feel I had much value for money, I’m sure there is places for the same price which could be better. 5/10.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Like most student accommodation, way too expensive for what you get. Go private instead.

Awful experience at Frobisher Halls, poor management when appliances (regularly) broke. Sinks leaked, the light sensor in our corridor was broken for over 4 months so we had to walk along a pitch black corridor every day and avoid bumping into things. We were told we weren't allowed guests more than 2 times per month however the halls staff often had guests round far more frequently and were very loud causing many disturbances. This seemed unfair as the students were in a way paying for these staff to stay in the halls. The halls were extremely hot especially the kitchen - which was absolutely tiny, it was supposed to fit 7 people however there was not enough room for more than 3 of us to comfortably be in there at one time. There was a lack of space and storage also. Noise complaints were never resolved, neither were issues with staff at the halls - some of whom were exceptionally rude. Frobisher halls are a complete scam and not worth the extortionate amount charged for rent - AVOID!

Best location for accommodation since it's so close to sainsbury's, tesco and co op. It only takes 3 mins to walk to uni and the rooms and common room is better than the accommodation on campus. The only problem is that it's a little more expensive than campus accommodation but it's worth it

My experience here was only bad due to unlucky flat mates. The rooms are brilliant, modern and very comfortable for first years. I can't stress enough how hot the buildings are though, which was only enhanced by the window restraint meaning very little air could circulate rooms! Even in winter my windows were open every night! Bring a fan if you are going to be living here next year! Kerry and Steve as part of the management team were brilliant and super lovely! Although I have to comment on the manager of Victoria halls well at least I think he was, as rude and abrupt and made me feel uncomfortable the very few times I met him, but overall the location is perfect and the rooms are very luxury for students!

I have Had 2 sons stay at Frobisher house one lucky enough to have a room in Citadel in the first year of opening and one unlucky enough to have a room in Barbican academic year 15/16, Barbican has 7 bedrooms all small but 3 are extremely small.the communal area is cramped not enough room for everyone to sit at the table or lounge area at the same time. also impossible to watch the tv unless you lean on the fridge or cooker(and they had to pay a TV licence fee for this pleasure) not impressed at all especially considering the high price! make sure you check out the flat before signing the contract!

It's a lovely building in a great location. However, it is far too warm, none of my flat have once shut our windows. There aren't enough washing machines and dryers. Being in B Block, I also find that there have been no social opportunities that have allowed us to mix with people from A Block which would have been nice.

Very expensive. The lift was frequently broken and always took a long time to fix. The door to my flat often didn't lock closed so I never felt my stuff 100% safe. The building is uncomfortably hot and there is no air condition to cool you down and the Windows are locked to a certain width so opening them doesn't make much of a difference either. We were told the building had a TV license for each flat but we were then told we weren't covered. However this issue may have been resolved but we were never updated. The person who runs the office didn't know anything about rent dates because the money is paid to the uni so they have "nothing to do with it". However it would have been nice if they were aware about the cost and the due dates.

Frobisher is awesome. But like most halls in plymouth it's expensive. It's only say £4 more than halls with no double bed, or sofas, or TVs, or cinema rooms. The cinema room and study room are awesome, and the range of flat sizes are great! Definitely the best halls in plymouth!

It is a lovely accommodation to live in as the facilities are all there such as an en suite, tv and sofas. However I feel that some of the kitchen features such as the hobs are susceptible to breaking, in addition to the wifi being rather poor for mobile devices. I have met some lovely flat mates who I will be living with next year, however since we are unable to visit other flats without a specific key card I feel that it can be hard to be sociable towards them. If you tried knocking on another flats door it would be hard for them to hear, so I feel that the halls of residence lacks a general community feel. Despite this I have enjoyed my experience in Frobisher House and would recommend it. Just lower the prices if possible!!

I think halls are way to pricey but compared to other halls that are paying similar prices Frobisher provides a lot more e.g. TVs, sitting area, cinema room and study room.

Had a great time none the less, we found the cleaner sitting on our sofa having a cup of tea but I feel I overpaid a little, for £110 a week I managed to get my own flat closer to the uni, a, but it was definitely an interesting year :)

Modern halls with good living spaces. Bedrooms look and feel clean with a practical en suite. The Kitchen living pace not only includes cooking facilities but also a good socialising area with sofas and a smart TV.

Great bunch of people this year. Slightly pricey and problems not always fixed all that speedily but overall a high standard of accommodation compared to other halls.
