All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Very decent, great location, great people.
WiFi wasn’t good and wasn’t very many social spaces. Quite a quiet accom
needham court social area was very very very lacking
Loud, not good for people with Anxiety or Autism, People smoke and do drugs, The maintenance and security team are usually rude and dismiss you without doing a proper job like fixing my burst pipe, the kitchen was never tidied by anyone I never cooked once and lived off practically no food.
The main reason I opted for Needham court was because of its location. Rooms are fairly big for student accommodation the bathroom is like a shower room and the kitchen is of a reasonable size, however after living their for a year we found issues. The wifi isn’t that great it is often very slow. Some parts of it is a bit run down e.g paint peeling There is a big issue with silver fish in bathrooms and bedrooms across all flats . There was also a rat problem with one getting into someone’s kitchen on an upper floor. The washing is run by circuit laundry but their app isn’t reliable for timings and there’s two dryers but one has been broken all year and hasn’t been fixed. The security are nice but with Needham court being away from the main reception where they are based they only come over around every hour and walk around the courtyard. Our flat also had an incident with a member of the public breaking in and stealing from us and the cctv was wiped before the police could collect it.
Socially needham court has been phenomenal, all my closest friends live in my flat or in the block. It’s lovely student accommodation and I feel lucky to have gotten a place here as it’s far more lavish than many of the other others and it’s 5 minutes away from university so it’s so convenient. It’s at the heart of everything.
Hi, Thank you for your review. We are very fortunate to have a campus with all the facilities you need close at hand. The choice of our accommodation aims to have something to meet everyone’s needs.
