Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The location of this property is convenient, but sadly, that’s where the positives end. When I moved in, the apartment was filthy, with dust and spider webs everywhere. New tenants should be prepared to do a thorough deep cleaning right away. The building’s amenities are very disappointing. The elevator rarely works, which is a major hassle if you need to move heavy items. The heating and hot water are also unreliable, and the maintenance staff seems incompetent. Worse still, they often enter the apartment without permission, leading to thefts—my phone and earbuds were stolen, and I received no remedies for these losses. frequent disruptions from refurbishments, inspections, happening at least two times a month. I asked to terminate my tenancy due to these issues, They allowed me, but now they are unresponsive and uncooperative regarding the refund for the remaining 10 weeks of rent. Save yourself the hassle and money, avoid this place at all costs and don't book with them.
Insanely expensive for what it is. No iron or anything to clean the floor i.e. mop or hoover, unless you go to reception. literally next to a 24/7 train track as well, which unless you’re a heavy sleeper keeps you up most nights. woken up every day recently due to building work across the road to build a new accommodation even closer to the train tracks. do not choose this accommodation unless you have nothing left to choose from.
The staff are pretty friendly, the communal areas could be cleaner and a bit more available instructions would be good!

Kindest reception staffs! I like them!
Big social space with table tennis table (plenty of space around the table too for stand back shots 😅) Added bonus of being able to use the cinema room/ PlayStation room with the latest games. Lovely staff that are happy to help with any problems. I have been living here for 4 years and have made lots friends for life and made good use of the services provided by IQ
Really enjoyed living here. the staff are very lovely and welcoming, really caring and understanding as well. Due to COVID the social spaces weren’t open however they have been nice since being opened. It’s overpriced for what you actually get, social spaces like the kitchen are small and don’t accommodate the amount of people that live there.
The staff are lovely and very accommodating, my stay was affected by covid but they did everything they could to make our stay special
Such an amazing place to live, so much to do in the social areas where you can meet lots of new people and are welcomed in by all the friendly, helpful staff
Great flatmates if you are lucky.good management.
Pig sty! Absolutely dirty! People are very unfriendly. The place smells terrible. Also have an infection. DO NOT be deceived by what you see online. It is FAR from the truth. I will not recommend anyone live here unless you want to turn to a shadow of yourself!
