Totally worth the money, I've lived here for 2 years and going into my 3rd year living here. Lovely spacious kitchens, decently sized rooms and bathrooms big enough to fit everything you need. I've had the odd maintanace issue, but give the maintance team an email and it will be sorted ASAP. staff are lovely and helpful. Be sure to talk to the reception staff as they're a lovely bunch. Cleaning is usually don't by the students themselves, but cleaners do come in every term to clean the showers and change the bins in the kitchen every week. My only complaint is poor signal, but that's beyond the staffs control. I recommend for students wanting to socialise and have a spacious area for a decent price. Definitely prefer this over accomodations in the city centre.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
I'm a first year student and loving my stay here at Carr Mills. I had a few issues with my room concerning some leaks in my first two months of moving here, but the maintenance staff were so efficient and time effective. They were quick to work out the problems, without disrupting my schedule, and always keeping me in the loop. Whilst the amendments were underway I was given a new room to stay in and then offered my old room back once it was sorted. Although, it ended up being for the best as I much prefer my new space! What could have been a very stressful and anxiety- inducing situation for me was quickly turned around and I felt very supported and reassured instantly.

washing machines don't work often, loads of noise(to be expected). comfortable rooms
For the most part this accomodation is okay but some things are annoying. The shower drain smells bad and you need to use drain cleaner every few days. I tried reporting this but all they cab do is put drain cleaner down. Another thing is there's a lot of uphill walking to leeds arts university, whixh is 15 minutes away. The closest shop is a petrol station shop whixh is very expensive. There is a bus stop nearby which can take you to town however, which is good. My floor has smelled bad since I moved in. I've used two bottles if carpet cleaner and it's now mucy less thankfully. There are good parts tho, the space they give is nice and there's underbed space for storage. Also they give a bedside drawer and more drawers. The radiator is also really good! Also the pricing was pretty good ad there was an offer for Leeds arts students.
The location of Carr Mills is at the bottom of a hill from campus. It is also not close to any amenities or social places - I felt that I had to spend most of my time on campus to find places to eat and buy food. The walk to the accommodation at times felt dodgy and unsafe - it is in a strange area of town.
People in the office have a trick in the card machine so if you pay with an international card, you end up paying much more than the contract says. Also, they made me pay more for the rent at the end because they lost track of my payments and when I came with my receipts, they agreed to reimburse me for the extra money they took from me but THEY NEVER GAVE ME MY MONEY BACK
Great international communication for people leaving abroad that would like to move in Really friendly staff ,easy to use and access facilities , great kitchen equipment for cooking , reiterating and .... The has surprisingly good speed Would really recommend as well if your planing to study In leeds art University since its like 10 minutes away .
Not very social. Parties we’ve had this year have been shut down for no specific reasons and been threatened of calling the police. The social area closes at 11 and there’s not really any benches in the court yard so no places to just meet other students. When I arrived I had several problems with my room, was dirty and my chair was broken which didn’t get replaced for 2 weeks. Carpet and toilet were just not very clean either. The rooms are reasonably big and quite a bit of storage room. Is like a 20 min walk into town and 15 to Hyde park. Some of the staff are lovely and very helpful but there are others which act very strange and frequently get drunk at the local pub. Also the security guards are very contradictory on what they say. Sometimes we’re allowed to do things and then sometimes we’re not even allowed to go out for a cig after 11pm??? Wish I went to another accommodation. Nice green area behind it though.
I currently live here and I would not recommend personally. If your thinking of having flat parties and gatherings this is not the right place. Every party, even a small party, has been broken up, we have had threats off security guards to call the police and kick us out even though we weren’t disturbing anyone. The common room gets shut at 11 whereas other accommodations have 24hour common rooms. Accommodation wise it’s a nice place to live, room was in good condition when I arrived and a lovely view out the windows. So if you hate parties and socialising this is the place for you.
Carr Mills is in a great location, not too far from Leeds Arts University and a few shops. great value for money since refurbishment. I’ve met some brilliant people here. Green areas around and nice routes into town eventhough it’s all up hill. Would recommend if you want a decent cheap place for a year.
Nice rooms, good people, good facilities, bit far from a shop but we make do
To put it briefly I would never live here again. Even though the price is great, my flat was extremely dirty when moving in and there where multiple damages within the kitchen and bedroom. My bathroom had sliver fish CONSANTLY as well as multiple different students finding them in other flats as well. Another student was blamed for mould growing in their flat while they weren’t even in area. To add to this at the end of my stay there was a bunch of charges I was not made aware of when moving in. And thing from tiny marks on the wall or a dirty fridge when moving will cost you a fine. Even though when I moved in the kitchen was flithy. Honestly suggesting that if any money was taken from students last year it didn’t go to cleaning. During my entire stay there where no communal areas and the ones they are only now including as students are moving out are nothing special. I would have picked a high priced accommodation if I knew these things. Just avoid it.
The staff here are absolutely lovely, 24 hour security, and a regular cleaner that pops through and changes the bins. Management are super friendly and check up on us all the time. I can't thank them enough for being so supportive and understanding during corona.
Really happy with the move in and communication. Rooms great. Shared living area well equipped and spacious. Problems all sorted really quickly. Staff very friendly and helpful. Looking good to the year ahead.
This is my first time moving away from home and I have moved whilst corona virus has been around. At first I was extremely nervous however people on site and Maria(especially) has helped me overcome that anxiety with corona. I can’t thank them enough for being so supportive and so welcoming.
Carr Mills is reasonably priced, well run and has a safe and secure gated entrance, with 24 hour security. It’s about 20 minutes walk from University of Leeds. Rooms are a good size.. There are student rooms in the main building and private flats in the former Mill building, so a mix of residents. Staff are nice and can be helpful.
I have been here about 2 weeks. The accomodation let me move one arly despite there still doing maintenance. This really helped me as very little accomodation would let me move in that early. They have been very helpful with me whilst ive been here and with covid they have been very respectful of people who are more nervous about getting infected etc. The overall place is very enjoyable to stay in.
My daughter stayed here last year 2019 - 2020. It was not her first choice and we hadnt viewed it on accommodation day. I had initial reservations due to poor reviews and wasnt looking forward to moving in day. How wrong I was. Whilst a few initial issues these were speedily sorted out and management couldn't have been better. Lovely and warm with large kitchen, lounge space with TV. My daughter had a fantastic time and there is nothing negative I can say. Well managed who hold student to account which I believe is a good thing. Lots of competitions to win prizes which was a nice touch. Well done, she would hesitate to return.
Good - View and location are good (trees and forest) if you plan on staying a year. If not then it doesn't matter, all you'll see is bare - They take the bins out for you. Bad - Management is shocking but the day to day staff are nice. I have been asked if my post had drugs in them and with later inspection, I saw that there was a rip in my package before I opened it. - Silverfish come up through the shower holes and cracks. - While the pandemic happened all private and non-private accommodations realised students in Leeds however Carr Mills did not which forced students to be away from their families during a crisis. - There is a lot of false action by management. They say 'we'll try' to sort out issues but try is a no. (Two of my flatmates couldn't stop fighting through the year. During the pandemic, one of them wanted to move to an empty flat to solve the issues. He ended up moving home instead :/ Guess why) - Coldwater after midnight, we pay for basic needs but don't get it
Good value for money, I stayed here 2 years in row. Short 10-15 minute walk to the university of Leeds closer than other accommodations. Plenty of parking space and friendly staff.
Very poor accommodation and would not recommend this company. They have been harassing and threatening for money when most of the other student accommodations have waived the last term fees or greatly reduced them. Do not waste your money on this company complete bandits
The worst accommodation ever, waste of money!
Covid-19: They did not help at all, they took the full amount of the 3rd payment even tho we weren’t using it. Disgraceful, Scandalous , and horrible!
My daughter stayed here this year. Whilst not her first choice and initial reservations she had a fantastic year. Well managed and lots of interaction with students. Any issues resolved without quibble. Reasonable sized room with good shared space. Very well heated throughout -did think the heater wouldnt be suffucient but her room was always very warm. Good security.
