Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Fantastic location, very noisy but does mean that it is sociable. the noise of the fire doors makes it hard to sleep. small rooms, very small bed, but nice jack and jill bathroom. good storage space for a small room
The accommodation should not charge on laundry services for £203 a week. It should also allow each room to choose their air conditioning preference.

Nice accommodation would recommend.

A nice place to rest and socialize with friends. However, there would be evening drinking parties outside and can sometimes be very noisy.
Great location, so close to everything on campus. Kitchen facilities are great and very convenient having washing machine and dryer in the kitchen. However I found it very difficult to bond with fellow residents due to being put in a kitchen with 4 2nd years at the end of the corridor who understandably didn’t want to socialise with 1st years. My floor had a large group of people from the same area who either knew each other or had mutual friends so weren’t interested in socialising with anyone else. The fob only giving you access to your own kitchen and floor limited how much you can meet other people.
really great halls but very expensive
Nice halls, cleaned frequently and with good kitchen facilities. The rooms feel small at first but they're actually really well furnished and the en suite is one of the best choices I made in first year. The people were nice on the whole, and always up for a laugh and a drink. Major issue was the lack of quiet periods. It was almost always possible to hear people in other rooms and, because of the amount of parties and pre-drinks hosted all over the building, it meant that getting to bed or doing any work until well after midnight almost impossible, for the entire time I was there. The warden staff often said they would assist and did not, and if they did go to a room to ask them to stop any noise it rarely helped.
Tiny room but the kitchen/living room is the largest one I have ever seen in all the students accommodation. The night staff are nice and helpful. Although during the 39 weeks our corridor had the toilet leaking problem for 6 times and could never feel the heater in the kitchen working, it was still a lovely stay.
Very noisy at night with students screaming and shouting.
Amazing facilities and ease of catering and on campus!
Luxurious and lovely, but probably not worth the horrific price
Charles is a great place to sit back unwind and enjoy your university experience in style and luxury
Expensive halls but great for location. Dobree and Whetton have shared bathrooms between 2 and small rooms but nice kitchen areas
Great, fun and amazing place to spend first year - couldn't have imagined starting uni anywhere else. Great access to campus; food is good and the gym facilities / easy access into town top it off. Plus, you're living in a hall that is designed to host conferences over summer - and has a 4* rating, so it's pretty damn good!
Had the best time in my freshers last year and if I ever had to pick again or recommend anyone, this would be the place definitely!
Way too expensive for what you get. No locks on toilet doors in dobree
These halls swayed me for how sleek and modern they are - both the bedrooms/en suites and living areas are all kitted out to a really high standard. However, considering what you pay for them it's probably not worth it for the amount of space you get. Also, although they look nice, the halls really don't have a very comfortable feel. I didn't get on with the majority of my flat mates and felt quite isolated from meeting other people as your fobs don't give you access to any other floors/kitchens than your own. This was made worse by being in the flat right at the end of the corridor. Felt more like living in a hotel than in halls, not great at all for social experience - especially if you're a slightly quieter person and don't get on with your own flatmates.
Feels like a hotel! Amazing top quality room right in the heart of campus- it couldn't be easier in first year! Although, the food at the refectory isn't great but for someone who couldn't cook at all in first year, its just what I needed!
