This residency was the perfect accommodation to create an amazing first year experience. The common room with TV, pool table, games and a small gym allowed my to make friends and socialise. The amenities inside the flat were also great, with a washing machine and dryer in the kitchen, so did not have to deal with circuit laundry. The staff in the office were super friendly, and took in your post and packages which was really useful.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
good accommodation, common room is great
A great location for a great price. Shared bathrooms were not an issue at all and were regularly cleaned.

Great value for money, having a washer and dryer in the flat instead of circuit laundry was unbeatable. Nice BBQ area with benches outside and grass which was lovely in summer. Really close to uni, felt safe and comfortable, pretty much everyone I met there was nice. Rooms are great with tonnes of storage, I thought I had a lot of stuff and didn't even use all the storage space! Only downside is the wardens are very strict on noise and flat parties, which can be frustrating but is fine especially if you value your peace and quiet. Overall would definitely recommend.
Horrible- over run by silverfish for 9 months
absolutely incredible accomodation!!!!! and the only with washing machines in the rooms, and the rooms are massive. Bathrooms are spotless and the people are great, 10/10 recommend I had a great year here and ignore the 3/2 star reviews, they’re fake and trying to turn people away APPLY FOR MONTY B!!!!!
Covid-19: they’ve cancelled rent
Amazing accommodation , the best accommodation i’ve ever stayed in! There is a group chat trying to butcher the reviews so people don’t apply there, they’re being petty because they want a place in the accom. APPLY FOR MONTY B it’s THE BEST !!!!!
Covid-19: Sent home currently due to the virus
People are writing fake reviews for this residence to stop people applying this year- all the 2 and 3 star review from April are FAKE!!! Do not be put off applying by these selfish people
Covid-19: Not sure how it’s helped during covid 19
Honestly the best accommodation I visited throughout first year. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews about it not being social however this wasn’t my experience at all. It largely depends on who you get put in a flat with but if you’re in a 9 it’s usually a really good mix. The location is perfect as it’s 5/10 mins from the uni and close to town, which is very handy on a night out. The only downsides to the accommodation is that the wardens are very strict, our flat was loud and got a fair few warnings and eventually some fines, however it’s worth it for the money you save from such a cheap accommodation. Also silver fish aren’t an issue really, you do see them a bit but they’re harmless and tiny.
Covid-19: They have refunded everyone who left due to the left, and were helpful in offering support and help to those who stayed.
this is my review of the halls
Not my first choice, but the best and most underrated halls in Leeds!! Newly refurbished, good and social if you're willing to say hi to the people on floors below because the 9 person flats mean tonnes of people and personalities. Free pizza and ice cream often, subwardens and warden can be a bit weird about noise but they give it up and not massive consequences. 10 mins walk to uni maximum, even less if you try, not far to shops and town centre, great wifi!! So underrated, more people need to hear about it, and so cheap compared to other places!! No ensuite but trust me that's no problem, toilets and showers get cleaned once a week and you share with 3 people which is fine. TONNES of bedroom storage, good kitchen storage, great dining/living area, makes you feel like a proper adult ;) BBQ area is cute and fun when it's warm.
Nice but very average at best. Not very sociable
If you want to party, stay at Hillhead.
I chose Monty B because I was on a budget, but also lazy, so I couldn't be bothered to travel far to uni. I wasn't expecting much, but I couldn't have chosen a better halls. 5-10 minutes walk from uni, not far from the city centre. The wardens sometimes come if you have a loud pres, but they'll just tell you to turn the music down or close the window or go out if it's particularly late. It's all been refurbished 1 or 2 years ago (or is currently being refurbished), the decor is v modern and the rooms are bigger and better-lit than most. The flats are either 4 or 9 people. Sharing a bathroom between 2 or 3 is fine, they get cleaned weekly. Good showers. Best of all - there's a washing machine AND a dryer INSIDE the flat that you can use for FREE. The bbq area is good for socials, especially in summer. I'd say it's a very social accommodation, lots of events (Otley runs etc). No one else you meet has ever heard of it, but who cares. It's a hidden gem, couldn't recommend more.
Such good value for money if you are in one of the refurbished blocks, which I believe most/all will be by September 2018. Rooms are of average size but contain all you could need, modernly decorated with tonnes of storage space and amazing lighting. If you are placed in a nine-bedroom flat, this contains three toilets and three showers and i can honestly say that sharing these facilities has been no problem at all over the last six months. What sets aside Monty B from other residences I have visited over my time is the social spaces provided within the flat, which include a large dining area (perfect for pre's) and a living room area, which is a hard thing to find at such a reasonable price. These spaces are perfect to help you get to know the new people you're living with. Though i did not initially choose Monty B i could not be more happy with where I was placed, making me so glad I did not get my original choice of Henry Price, as it is nowhere near as good value for money imo.
Great location Excellent value for money Shame about the creepy subwarden that kept showing students indecent pictures on his phone.
Get to socialise with lots of different flats especially with all the great socials we've had this year. BBQ area is great in the summer and at freshers week
I have had the best year at Monty B! It is so easy to make friends beyond your flat and you will get to know the rest of your block really well. Everyone spends so much time in the BBQ area during the evenings of freshers week so I would definitely recommend getting out there then! It is safe to say it is not the most glamorous of halls but in my opinion that is what uni life is all about. It is a great location to uni and town despite the hill.
Good location and decent for the money but still very basic and not as sociable as other halls.
Great location- only 5 minutes from uni. Loads of outdoor spaces including bbq area which is lovely in summer, Reasonably priced, however not the nicest living area and shared bathroom/kitchen. No indoor social spaces
MontyB is cheap and cheerful where you get what you pay for. It may not be the fanciest of accommodations, but the social side of it is amazing, and it's easy to make friends!
Spacious rooms, great location
May be one of the cheaper options without a common room, but the layout means you will have the best social experience (having spoke to most people from the other accommodations). BBQ/grass area in the centre and the sort of circle layout means you are constantly bumping into people and having a chat, if you're more bothered about making friends and having the best social vibe over an expensive room, Monty B is the one!
The lack of indoor social space was a shame, but the outdoor BBQ area came to life in the summer. Monty B was good value for money and unbeatable location/proximity to uni - you could roll out of bed 10 mins before a lecture and get there on time. We had to use Ethernet cables for our internet (!!!!), but I think there's Wifi now.
Landed a disabled flat so lots of space and washing machine in kitchen. No common room or toaster given. Though not my thing, there are smoking flats available. Excellent distance from Uni of Leeds, only a short five minute walk uphill. Not near to any large supermarkets, unless you walk into the city centre for Morrisons. Very happy with accommodation although many people have mentioned limited storage space - so be prepared!
Ended up in a boring flat of people not interested in socialising, had to find so able people outside my halls to drink with
Good for the summer with the outdoor communal area and being close to uni helps. Cheap(er) and cheerful
Great outdoor area. Poor facilities but well worth the price. Location is prime.
Really nice and handy location. Not far from uni and a nice walk into the city too. Close to Leodis and not high rise makes it a great place to socialise as does the outside bbq area. Only problem is that there are no common rooms so all socialising is to be done in bedrooms or a usually messy kitchen. For student accommodation the value for money isn't too bad but the bathroom is shared and there is no common area so it could be cheaper to be fair.
Cheap and crap, but good if you're on a budget
The location is excellent and the barbecue area great for socialising. I have truly made friends for life here.
Cheap and close to the university campus and town, not many other positives No common room/living area
Best halls in Leeds, much cheaper than campus halls and so close to the uni! Flat system makes meeting people in other flats somewhat difficult but a very sociable environment so works out fine! Perfect location and lovely grounds with grass and BBQ area in the centre with 14 pretty red brick blocks surrounding it. Would definitely recommend
Good halls, quite basic and very quiet. Not social at all. Nice bbq area but not used often and very few hall events. Bedroom and kitchen are the living spaces and bathrooms are shared.
very social, near campus, good cleaning services, lacked common room but the bbq area was great during the nice weather
Fairly nice place. Slightly horrible decor and a shame about the shared shower/bathroom, but nice and close to the uni with a decent kitchen and bedroom.
Great for socialising as the blocks hold small numbers. No social space but big kitchens and outdoor area.
Probably one of the least nice looking halls in Leeds but it's a good price, close to uni and very social!
The only problem is the wardens seem to be much stricter here than other halls
Brilliant year here - so sociable and the barbecue area is great - wouldn't want to be anywhere else!!
Good location but difficult to socialize. There are no international flats to meet new, different people and no common room.
Great if no one lives there but the ceilings and walls are too thin, was up all most every night when anyone came in drunk (which was every night). Had a really horrible year, so glad it's over Unite owned places are better and cheaper
There is no social spaces but the location is great (10-15 minute walk). Even without a social space all my block is incredibly social and always meet in the kitchens. Good to not pay as much as other places eg Central Village. Not much of a looker but a brilliant place to stay for first year!
Good location. Poor facilities in halls that are always breaking. The accommodation office are poor. The decor in the rooms is so dated and not nice to look at. For the extra price for some of the other accommodations, they have much better facilities like sofas and tv's. I wouldn't recommend Monty B.
