Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
It is a good space, with my own bathroom and has a mini fridge which means I can keep my food separately, which is good in my case as I'm gluten intolerant.
The rooms are smaller than what it looks like on the website so you aren’t able to fit much into it. Also, the only social space is the kitchen and people do not use that very often so getting to know your flatmates is harder. However, it is a good hall and I do enjoy staying in it
People keep drinking every night. Hard to get some sleep so needed some earplugs for it.
Sharing one kitchen with 25 people was annoying. Had people stealing food and using equipment without washing it up. there was no social space other than our rooms and kitchen which was never big enough if there was more than 10 of us
Changed since I studied but used to have no social space so we used the hall ways, made friends for life here
The most social hall on campus, everyone mixes in easily and you are not isolated to one flat. Cooking space a little cramped but not awful. Food cards are also great with the hall
good social uni but location is quite out of the way
I commute to university but based on friends experience the halls have a good location on campus and there is a variety to choose depending on what package you go for.
Very good experiences and value for money
Halls were an interesting experience. There were 25 people to every kitchen meaning it was a constant mess and you were lucky if they were quiet enough for you to sleep before 2am. This was made slightly easier to cope with though when everytime you walked to your room, you got high from the second hand smoke of some dude doing weed in the disabled toilets.
Didn’t stay in halls but my friends did
Would have rather lived on the streets, then in Kirkstall
i didn't like living in this hall at all.. It's saving grace was the fact that it was en suite and part catered, other than that I hated it
