Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Such nice flats, cleaners come everyday and do a good job.

Made no friends. Plumbing was always an issue. Cleaners lovely. No social area. Central to campus like all other acccomdation.
Incredible place to live, excellent facilities, on campus so great location. Really clean and hygienic. Fantastic social spaces to meet new people and hang out.
Very modern hall with great staff cleaners who are a pleasure to see every morning.
Lovely accommodation, can’t fault it really other than all saints don’t have a common area
Bit costly but loving living on campus and made some really good mates
It’s really social and you get to know people really quickly
Bang average not worth the money at all Just because your a student doesn’t mean you have to get rippped off , do your research about the price of a normal rental property before here, Probably worth renting a normal house for a couple of years
Small kitchen Rubbish appliances
I do not live on campus however my friend that does seems happy
Very lovely and spacious rooms! Kitchens are great and have a lot of space.
Nice room, quite big, big kitchen, only 6 to a flat, cleaners in 5 days a week. Only complaints are the shower and the wifi being a bit iffy
Good to roll out if bed and go straight to lecture with it being on campus. There should be an option to decide what type of people you are living with though e.g. very social, not social etc
Poor WiFi, lights went out a few times, repair man was very efficient and helpful, always cleaned to a High standard.
Very very expensive, but the only good choice you have unless you want to share a bathroom with 9 others.
Clean, friendly cleaners, nice halls
I stayed here in my first year and loved it. There was a cleaner who would clean your kitchen/communal area every day and would clean your room once ever 2 weeks. It was on campus so it was a 5 minute walk to your lesson, and there is a shuttle to the local supermarket and the train station so you weren't too far away from everything.
The halls were well clean and basic. The social space wasn’t great as you couldn’t find more than 10 people in the kitchen.
Right on campus, cleaning staff were lovely and did a great job!
No common room, some cleaners were nice some were not, same with security
Lovely sized rooms with nice en-suites, lights in the kitchen can be very annoying as they are sensored.
Brilliant hall - underfloor heating, ensuite and modern facilities
