Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

A very good place to live the first year as it was 10 min from all the main places like campus and town and the quay
Monday 2nd of October, Entry 1: I moved into Northfield a little over 2 weeks ago. The lady from downstairs knocked the door to our flat on the first day. We didn't answer and she hasn't stopped. The knocking has become part of my cognitive function and I have already accepted the fact that I will never see my family again. I am down to my last tube of toothpaste and have I uploaded the last of my duchy organic parsnips to youtube to enter into what I am told is a very sound investment in the up and coming urban psy jazz trance scene. The wifi went down last Wednesday and I've already eaten 3 of my flatmates. I am now in a dominant position of authority with the remaining 2 who I now own under Northfield Law. Tell the world of my story. Sincerely, Proud resident of flat 495.
Very good halls, would recommend.

I didn't originally apply for this accommodation, and admittedly was very surprised when allocated it, but now that I'm here, I haven't got a clue why I didn't apply here in the first place! Double bed, en suite, amazing location, very large and modern spacious flats, doesn't feel like living in halls whatsoever, its wonderful.
I didn't know this hall existed when I was applying for accommodation but I'm so glad I was placed here! There is a real community feel and you become really close with people in your block. The staff are incredibly helpful and put on loads of free events for the residents to enjoy. The living space is wonderful, spacious and enjoyable. I loved my time in Northfield :)
Though staff are friendly and maintenance is quick. Maintenance do quick fixes instead of fixing it fully. And the internet keeps dropping out.
