All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Great building with good location. Excellent service and well being support from Valerie and Siu Yu at front desk. Love it!!
Accommodation for name sake is STUDENT ACCOMMODATION. Place doesn’t have a STUDY SPACE. Don’t waste your money here. Totally NOT recommended and I CAN’T stress this enough
If you want to feel like royalty come and stay here. There staff is professional yet very approachable and they bend over backwards to ensure you have everything that you need or want. You always feel safe when here and the facilities are practically 5 star which cannot be emphasised enough and you are in walking distance of the most beautiful and practical spots in the city. You get more than enough value for your money. Really won’t regret it.
great location Annette and Danielle always willing to help us. Fantastic experience Great memory
The locations and room is really nice and staffs are kind.
Annette and Danielle are amazing and always there to help and the accommodation is in such a good location and nice to live in
It offered me a great accommodation living experence with my first time in UK. It was a reaaly nice choice that met my expactaion.
The accommodation here is excellent and this is mainly underpinned by the staff that work here. They create a friendly atmosphere from day 1 and helped me settle in quickly.
Great rooms here with great facilities. I've got a room on top floor and the view is amazing! Also really good that they allow dual occupancy here when most halls don't offer the option. I've been in other student halls before but I honestly love my room here so much! It's close to many restaurants, pubs and supermarkets and having Co-op right across the road really makes a difference. I also love the staff here, they are super friendly and helpful and genuinely care about the students here, so thank you!
I hope the rent can be cheaper. The staff members are super nice and friendly.
Great location, but a bit expensive in comparison with other new studios.
Excellent service by the staff at the building helping us with a room change. Great people!
Amazing reception team. Only wish there was a gym on site.
it' s a very good studios to live!!!!
It's a wonderful apartment to live in! We can always get little surprises from the reception desk. After half a year, we have become good friends. If I could, I would like to live here forever!
This is a great studio, and the friendly staff is my main preference for this studio.
really good environment, good location
It is an amazing experience living in Queen street studios. It would be perfect if the price get cheaper since the room is small.
Wonderful place - feel like living at home away from home
Staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are lovely with great views, everything is always clean, the wifi is very fast and the location is amazingly helpful
My stay at Queen Street studios was excellent and I am so glad I chose to stay with them this year. The reception staff are brilliant at what they do and go above and beyond to make memorable experiences for students. Being able to have friendly chats with Annette and Danielle was a great part of my stay, whether it was to ask questions or have a brief conversation. This was really useful considering how courses had to be learnt remotely and social experiences were very limited this year. Unfortunately, the pandemic meant that social spaces couldn't be used because of guidelines. Which is a shame given how it looked so nice with the decorating. I was also really impressed with how the team safeguarded against Covid, which made me feel safe throughout my stay. Besides this, everything that could have been done was carried out with the highest standards. I couldn't recommend staying there more as someone who took a lot of time searching for student studio apartments.
Lovely reception, amazing experience.
I booked my room in summer 2020 and from the first instance they took the phone I already felt the kindness of the staff. They are very pleasant and welcoming. Every now and then the team will offer pastries and sweets to the residents. Small acts that make a huge difference when being away from home. Small acts that reassure your nice and modern studio as your second home.
Its fantastic, one of the best accomodation in Exeter. Staff are superb and facilities are also great.
It has a great location and very friendly and responsible staff members!
Located in the Queen Street, the rooms are spacious, affordable especially when you're willing to prefer dual occupancy. Excellent Wifi, 24/7 hot water, includes all the bills, you get good wardrobe space, a kettle, a fridge, an oven and a room heater. Friendly staff.
