Honestly the only thing going for this place is the location. Rooms are small, beds are squeaky and give you joint pain, bathrooms are mouldy. Most kitchens have no windows and only a tiny ventilation fan, so bad that ours had a huge mould problem halfway through the year. Also absolutely nowhere to socialise if you’re more than the few people who can fit at the kitchen table. This accommodation could really benefit from one of the room being turned into a common area for each block. Cleaners basically stopped cleaning anything after a few months. It’s obvious the plumbing is cheap cause there’s always so much noise coming from the pipes that sometimes it’s hard to sleep. Had major wifi connectivity issues and was told there was nothing they could do. I can’t wait to get out of this place.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

No window in the kitchen, toilet wouldn't flush properly, smallest shower with a really bad pressure, really really bad water (could not drink it) a tiny fridge split between 5 people, small and overly priced. Wifi barely worked on my phone all year.
Decent if you go to kitchens to socialise... group chat is vital, and wifi cuts out on YouTube videos. Great for location and response to issues is excellent, but absolutely no sound proofing from windows or walls so able to hear when house mates leave or enter the flat, not an issue if your the one going out. Generally well kept and security is decent. Already found housemates for next year so think about it early.
I dislike my room, dirty carpet, limescale in shower, dirty walls, broken closet, radiator doesn't work, other than that the location is perfect, kitchen is a great (but the only) space to socialize
The kitchens need updating in all 3 blocks, and potentially need to try to create a common room area but apart from that I've met lots of brilliant people and had a brilliant first year there
Made loads of new friends as its all open halls, have your own bathroom which is always handy, perfect location being opposite the uni entrance meaning I can leave 2 minuets before my lecture starts.. Rooms are a fairly decent size too! Only down side is that there is no common room and there's 15+ of us on a Friday night that have to try and pre drink in a tiny kitchen, not ideal but overall I couldn't have had a better first year of uni thanks to hollybank
All rooms ensuite. So handy for lectures held on Parkgate road campus. SU and gym/pool v close.
Simple rooms for any first years need with a bathroom in every room you can't go wrong. All this place needs is a common room
This needs to be fully refurbished doing all 3 blocks. Kitchens are unsafe and my room grew mould! We also had no communal room but for only living in it a year I loved the mates socialising and my en-suit
