Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Lovely accommodation, friendly staff
Overall great area, could use a common room for socializing however instead of only bedrooms as some poor sod has to be made as sacrifice every time people wish to chill. Food is located at a 10 minute walk away, which is great. The actual quality of the food however, is poor. Imagine taking all the reasonably decent parts of school/hospital food, and throwing it out the window. Not very healthy options as a whole, makes it a struggle to get enough protein, with the portion sizes leaving you hungry about an hour or two later as they're just practical carb fillers. The actual food is very, very bland as a whole too. Biggest notes are, for example, advertising a curry as a Korma yet having zero resemblance to the taste of an actual korma, just add the coconut flavour! Gravy has been very greasy at times also, pasta is often overcooked and desserts left out too long. Actual service of the staff is amazing, very friendly and chatty. Needs new chefs asap however!
brilliant place to stay. its in the middle of the city centre so you are beside everything.
Brilliant halls.
Lovely accommodation, nice king-sized beds, all ensuite, big rooms. All the people I've met are lovely and very welcoming. You get a weekly cleaner for your room. Could do with more common space that has sofas but we just make do and go in each others rooms. The food at whites is ok however, it is all the way on campus which can often lead to students thinking 'I can't be bothered trekking all the way down there' especially when its cold or raining. However, there is a tesco just downstairs, as well as a papa johns and also another takeaway across the road. It is very close to the city centre.
