Royce was not my first choice accommodation at Loughborough but it has been amazing. The social aspect of catered living has been very beneficial. All halls are cleaned frequently and just overall my experience has been great, I would recommend Royce Hall to prospective students.

Good experience with graet people.
Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy that you are having a great experience in Royce! Royce is known for it's community spirit, so it's fantastic to hear that you have been a part of that. - Harry
Awful. No service and poor network. Not worth 8k for one of the oldest buildings. Everything is falling apart- needs refurbishing. Module everywhere and thin wall. Didn’t choose the room, was allocated it and didn’t enjoy first year at all. Catered dinner is was too late for uni students and such small portion.
Great hall giving a homely feel to it
Royce hall is catered, regularly cleaned, has great location in the middle of the campus, very close to library, and has 2 common rooms. There are loads of social events throughout the year on top of weekly hey ewe and fnd. On the otherhand, the wifi cuts off in certain locations, specially in your room. The connected ethernet is very fast.
Royce was not my first choice of accommodation but after spending a year there, I wouldn’t change it for the world. A great sense of community and fun social events. Same-sex floors meant the shared bathrooms and kitchen were never an issue and our lovely cleaner kept everything very very clean. Would recommend.

I had a en-suite single bed room in Royce. The bathroom is small but has all you need. The room itself is very spacious and more than enough space and storage for everything i had. The kitchen in the block is small but for the weekend (as it’s fully catered during the week) it does the job. I would double check if you need induction pans or not and if you don’t know wait until you get here as I didn’t have induction pans and needed them! The food from the hall is great and there’s loads of options. Overall I think it’s great halls and I really enjoyed staying here 😁
Royce is an outdated, overpriced option for halls at Loughborough. The rooms have a multitude of issues and haven't been properly maintained and the kitchens are a joke. The dining hall is mediocre, while the staff are lovely, the food is served on a 3-week rota, is cheap and only occasionally good. There are no security measures to keep others out of blocks they don't live in, with anyone who lives in Royce having access to all blocks, flats and kitchens, with strangers being able to mess with fridges, appliances and food/drinks, as well as other shared facilities within blocks. The prices for the rooms are overpriced compared to other halls, with the only pros being the wonderful cleaning staff. If you are unfortunate enough to end up in Royce due to the outdated accommodation portal system (which really doesn't give you any choice of where you want to live), talk to your tutor if you are unhappy (I wish I had known I could sooner).
The common room could use some work as the pool table is always messed up and the cues are always missing.
The showers are way too small, they make me feel really uncomfortable and claustrophobic. I keep burning myself on the hot pipes and knocking myself against the shelves. I find the letters of warning left in bedrooms and kitchens are quite rude, as I’m paying for the room, I see it is unreasonable not to be able to ask not to have you room cleaned on numerous occasions especially when ill, in a meeting, revising and on your day off. Both the kitchen and bedrooms are left in a reasonably clean state so I see this as really petty and insignificant, plus a waste of paper. The fire alarm going off once a week is so not necessarily, once a month is by far good enough. The food time tables need to be mixed up a bit more the last few months of uni it feels like the staff have just given up on it and we just get whatever is easiest and quickest. I also don’t like not being noticed when people are coming into my room I find this a breach of privacy and also really unsettling
Good, positive experience, with cleaning well maintained by staff
Good value for money, lack of communal social spaces like a kitchen with a table and chairs
Generally good experience, nice room, was in good condition when I moved in. Cleaners are fantastic. Constant heating problems, radiators often didn't work in the winter and it could take days for that to be fixed, then radiators wouldn't turn off in the summer, leaving the room up to 30 degrees.
It’s great social wise due to it being a catered hall. My room gets mouldy however and my clothes also. Shared toilets rarely have seats on them. Overall I would highly recommend Royce to stay in.
I think it’s good but I believe I got luck as some people from other blacks have had negative experiences
Royce Hall is at the centre of the university campus, approximately 10 minutes from anywhere else, making it very convenient to get to lectures, labs, the gym, etc. The food quality is decent and the area is very open to social activities. The quality and response time for repairs by the maintenance team could probably improve, and the cleaners could use different chemicals to clean the rooms, as it leaves a slight smell.
Best hall there’s a reason it has won HOTY 2 years in a row
The Royce hall has been quite a comfortable place to live even for an international student. I have been very fortunate with great flatmates.
Catered food is awful. Keeps getting worse.
Social hall, great location , moderate food
Cheap and cheerful but a bit of a long walk to west park and missed lots of cleaning this year because of bank holidays and the common room is shocking because people keep breaking stuff.
Good location but little expensive
I love the community feel in Royce as well as the spaces to live in themselves. I am in a standard shared room and it is very spacious and the sink in the room is very convenient. The people in Royce are super friendly and being part of the committee has meant that I have the opportunity to come back and stay next year. ❤️🖤❤️🖤
Living in Royce for both my first year and second year has been an absolute blast. I have loved every second of it, and would probably go as far too say as it being some of the best years of my life. The social aspect is great, such a community feel, the food is good, facilities are great and it’s so convenient for lectures. I’m even planning to stay in Royce for my third year, that’s how much I love it! UP THE ROYCE 🖤❤️🖤❤️
Big up the Royce. Best hall of residence at Loughborough.
great social experience but it’s not cleaned often enough
Royce is in a good location and has friendly people
Temperamental heating system, the radiator in my room shuts off on its own at times leaving the room freezing cold.
Good location and catering but there were no common rooms for socialising and internet was inconsistent
The kitchens and all related communal spaces are being cleaned once a week and any shortcomings at the university will be attended by a simple complaint.
Great hall. Pretty much the middle of campus so never too far from anything.
If you want a social, fun and all round freshers experience, Royce is the hall for you.
Wifi never failed, however lacked the community spirit
Long queues, Vegetarian and the food was usually veggie stew everyday compared to the meat options. Outdated rooms
Great location in the centre of campus. Catered hall with decent food for which the convenience is great in 1st year.

One of the few best decisions I made by choosing Royce. Socially very active! Never run out of people to talk to! Cleaning was regular and overall was a great experience Living here!
Covid-19: I was already on my own and did not stay back.
Royce Hall has honestly given me the best first year experience of university. I was a little nervous when arriving at uni however from the moment i got there there were people helping me unpack and move into my room! Both the Fresher helpers and the committee were absolutely delightful. I found there was something for everyone ranging from punch parties and arranged nights out such as a boat party, as well as game nights and bake sales. I think one of the best aspects for me was the meals, you become so close with your Royce friends going to meals with them was the highlight of each day.
Covid-19: Royce have offered to keep the rest of my belongings in my room till it is safe for me to return to collect them.
The most welcoming hall and inclusive hall in uni. I mean you know your leaders
Your hall basically becomes your family when you are at university. Royce was great as it has a wide variety of people and because it is in the student village it close to all the other halls as well.
Hi member441343 Its great to hear that you had such a good time staying in halls and that you're proud to be part of the #LboroFamily! Tendo
There were no social spaces and compared to other halls with the same features I had it was a lot more expensive. Was in catered as well and would argue this was not worth the extra money.

An incredible hall, an incredible committee and overall amazing experience
I wasn’t a big fan of Royce hall but that was really just a personal experience . Really old rooms and I didn’t click well with the people. I’m a fan of new modern rooms, and wanted to be self catered. It’s okay for what it is I guess

Halls are expensive but you totally get your moneys worth - especially in catered halls with the food. The Dining Hall atmosphere is excellent and Halls are so sociable.
Good people and cleaning staff. Everything else is immoral. If it wasn't for the people then it would be the worst uni experience in the country. Food is a disgrace, rooms are embarrassing due to cheap furniture which gets broken and then takes ages to get replaced. Only thing that saves Royce is the freshers helpers and the committee.
Absolutely amazing hall couldn't of asked for a better first year at university, something for everyone to get involved in here
Awesome hall, food ain't great
Royce has been the ideal accommodation which opened the doors in meeting numerous students through social activities and gatherings, involving all new students (freshers) as well as returning students within the accommodation to socialise and break the age barriers
Halls are great fun, everything you needed for first year!
Spent the best year of my life in Royce and am staying there for a second I enjoyed it so much!
Living in Royce as a fresher was a great experience. Being in a catered hall was very sociable and provided the opportunity to eat three meals a day with all the other students living in the same hall. The location was also fantastic and being in the student village made it so easy to get to lectures, the library and the students' union!
I can honestly say living in halls was the best experience ever. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed and settled in straight away. People were on hand to help you move in and the committee had organised a whole host of events and activities for us. It was great to be so close to everything on campus and being in a catered hall added to the whole social experience. There’s nothing better than going out for dinner with your friends every night.
Fun and enjoyable place to live with all parts of the uni within a 15 minute walk. Possibly a bit expensive for what you get.
great hall have managed to make so many new friends in the different IMS events held and the socials. Great experience so far
Really nice, great people, good location, would be better if we had more social spaces in the blocks
One of the rowdiest, and the most outgoing hall in the uni. If you are into going out all the way during the year, and not mainly freshers. Then this is the hall for you !
Royce is decent. Fun to go out with new people though.
Rooms are tiny, but being smack middle of campus helps making going anywhere within university a breeze. Dining hall food has variety in each meal but gets dull after awhile when you realise it's the same menu every single week. Many service disruptions (eg:water disruptions) have occurred which makes life troublesome for students.
Royce has been sick so far, very lively with a massive community atmosphere
Best hall, very cosy and family like
So much going on - always something to do for everyone! Being catered gives a great social atmosphere and you meet so many more people. Royce is in a great location in the middle of the student village and close to all parts of campus
Had the most ridiculous year in Royce!
All round unbelievable hall, beyond socialable and really well setup!
I have lived in Royce for one year, it wasn't my original choice of hall but once I got there I absolutely loved the hall itself and the atmosphere that came with it! I've never thought I wanted a catered hall, but it brings everyone together and is a great way to get to know one another! I loved it that much I will be back for my second year! Best time of my life in Royce hall.
Very sociable, friendly hall with a strong involvement in rag, action and sport. Just a generally all round happy hall where you will make friends whoever you are, wouldn't change it for anything!
Food quality poor. Location fantastic
A great hall in the perfect location near to the union, library, lectures and shop. Could do with having more social areas within each block though.
cleaning staff are lovely, brilliant location, close to lecture theatres and not far from Union. Some signal problems but good for most phone companies. There's a common room but not much social space in accommodation but there's kitchen and hallways. Really good accommodation
