Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Excellent accommodation for a first time at university
My accommodation is very spacious and has lots of plants and greenery. It’s well located to the bus stop and main campus. We have a big kitchen and a big room with lots of storage in the room and a double bed. However, there are some issues that have not been addressed by maintenance which we have said about for a few weeks now. Nevertheless, the accommodation is very nice, people are friendly and the reception staff always try and help and are always happy and helpful.
Excellent accommodation, really great rooms and facilities
I liked my time at Turing, but it was way too overpriced
I did pay less for Turing houses than they are now but have been very happy with the experience
Lovey accommodation, the rooms are nice and big and have room to move and nice big beds depending on what size you pick and the kitchen areas are lovely and modern and again spacious good for socialising with others and getting to know your flat mates.
Nice en-suite room, modern facilities
Looks good, spacious, rich kids basically.
First year to stay in the new Turing flats. Not well built, things fell apart
Best at Kent in my opinion. Incredibly modern and clean.
Spacious room and a big kitchen space that really creates a social atmosphere
Bad social space, nice big room
It’s a Turing house so I share a bathroom with one other housemate but I get along with all my housemates and have no complaints with it what-so-ever
UP THE TURING, best halls on campus
Cleaners constantly hoovering at 9am/interfering with everyone, it didn't feel like a home/personal space with cleaners making noise all the time.
Best place to live at Uni. Great location, very clean, feeling of safety, excellent rooms.
Good sized rooms. Very good amenities and cleaned to a good standard.
Turing is the best accommodation offered at Kent
The halls were average, for the price, i would expect more considering it’s the most expensive on campus
It’s a nice accommodation, absolutely loved it
Lovely halls, were very new but cheap
Turing is a great accommodation, it’s near everything on campus and the rooms are a great size
Amazing facilities in a great location
I cried when I had to move out! Was the best part me and my flat were so close and still are! Nothing bad about Turing
Really good for socialising and pres, would recommend the houses over flats apart from having a single bed they are much more sociable
Turing is quite expensive but definitely worth it. It’s modern, looks good, is very safe (has campus security wondering by often and security cameras etc.) and has great communal areas for socialising, especially the kitchens which are really big and have lots of seating.
Modern with big rooms, ensuite bathrooms and nice kitchens
Everyone is friendly and good places to go socially
Good and clean. Close to main campus. Best college in Kent uni
Of course it’s never going to be spotless when you are living with seven other strangers !! However I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay !
So modern and great experience
the wifi is great, the people i shared my flat with were really nice, but some people aren't that lucky
Such a nice accommodation and so close to everything on campus. The cleaners come regularly and in my experience it was a very sociable accommodation
While somewhat expensive, an overall good experience, clean with lots of space.
Turing is very expensive but if you can afford it then its a great accommodation! There's 9-12 people per Turing house (not sure about flats but its around the same) and a large living space to socialise. Sometimes it would get crowded though as although it's big 9-12 people in it was a lot. It's in a great location to get onto main campus and has hut8 nearby to enjoy food, study or socialise. One of the only downsides though was because its a new accommodation, every time my housemates and I would have pres or hung out in the evening and we were being too loud, campus security would always come and tell us to be quiet or go somewhere else and sometimes they would give fines even when it wasn't late and we weren't being that loud! Whenever I went to Parkwood, campus security would never come found as it's much further away. But in general its one of the best accommodation for its modernity and space but its very pricey.
Met alot of new friends that are all really chill and nice, great for being new to/ bad at social interaction.
I love my accommodation! Though it’s pricey it’s definitely worth it
Very big, clean and close to everything
Worst internet experience. Getting Ethernet connected and setup is literally the worst. You first setup the wifi connection which is easy and straightforward. Then comes the ethernet connection with a long list of procedures. Upon which to authorise the user, you have to switch off wifi and plug in the Ethernet cable and magically hopes that your browser doesn't stop loading because it lost connection with the dns server.
Albeit pricey, Turing is beautiful. When I first started university I could not believe how big Turing accommodation is, especially the houses. I would really recommend living in a house as the communal downstairs area is massive and sharing a toilet with one other person is really not an issue- especially as the bathrooms are so nice!
The pricier accommodation, but you really get what you pay for, miles above the other accommodations
Turing is the best to meet nice people
Good halls but hit and miss with flat mates
I lived in H block and the houses are nice and modern with huge, well equipped kitchens. You only share the bathroom with one other person which is nice and the bathrooms aren't wet rooms like the en suite accommodating on campus. Location is good and it's very easy to get into town as well as being relatively close to central campus. However, living with 11 other people makes cooking and keeping the kitchen tidy difficult and in my opinion living with 11 other people is too many, especially if you don't get on well. I'd say Turing houses are good if you want a loud typical fresher experience and to go out every night but to avoid them if you're slightly less social. Turing also seems to be filled with stereotypical loud inconsiderate rich kids who are very clique-y and show lots of disrespect to staff such as the cleaners (but that's just my experience). In hindsight I wish I saved the extra 1k a year and picked Park Wood.
Double beds and clean, large kitchens which are great for pres and close to central campus. Pretty and loads more space than every other accommodation. They're also new.
Great accommodation, definitely recommend, especially the houses
Amazing big rooms, clean and spacious. However the doors break all the time, not too much of a problem though as they get fixed very quickly.
Its really luxurious and the rooms are spacious but the common room has nothing intresting about it! A big TV should be added in the common room for everyone to use and gather around. Even of we have our own tv in the rooms. Since it is the most expensive college, more facilities should be added!
Absolute disgrace. It had rats and builders present all year round.
The best I've seen. WiFi is slightly better than around campus generally.
Really spacious, massive rooms, and such a large difference in price between ensuite and shared - but you only share with one person
Expensive, but worth it for the new kitchen and en suite
Never been so impressed with an accommodation! The thing which made me choose Turing over Keynes was the bathroom! The bathroom is incredible and is not a wet room (which floods in keynes) it is a well build shower which is more hygienic and easier to clean. The lighting in the rooms is good and the rooms are very modern and neutral colours. The kitchens are bright and spacious aswell. Very pleased.
It is a good hall for the price you pay (maybe a little too much), you don't socialise that much with other houses/flats though.
Although the most expensive Turing is easily the best, most modern with the best facilities!
Nice clean! Good rooms little pricey for what they are! Especially when comparing to other universities and in the 9 bedroom flats there isn't enough space in the kitchen :(
Love the whole social side of Turing everyone is so close. The rooms are very nice and kitchens are very good.
With friends in various other colleges, nowhere matches up to the living space of Turing
There are some positives such as good location, nice bathrooms and bedrooms and its nice to be on a floor as opposed to in a hall. However there is a constant sewage smell across all 3 floors and the space in the communal area and kitchen is so poorly designed. There are no surfaces to prepare food in the kitchen and two cupboards per person is not enough to store all food - let alone all the pots and pans needed. Two small sinks and a tiny drying rack is not enough for between 12 people. We have no space to cook or clean so many of us rely on ready meals as it is just too stressful to try to cook something proper with that amount of people in that amount of space. There is almost too much space in the living room which is such a shame as it would be much better to have used that as a bigger kitchen. Our door had a crack in when we got here which has grown further. The glass is now completely smashed and it has not been fixed for over a week.
Fantastic, spacious room in Block A with a gorgeous en-suite. The view from the kitchen (Canterbury, can see the Cathedral!) especially at night or in the morning is absolutely gorgeous. It's pretty far from everything but it's a nice walk to lectures, seminars, etc but obviously this is a downside when you're carrying several bags of shopping, but most people just order now from Tesco or Asda so there are ways around it. All in all, it is an absolutely stunning accommodation and I am glad to be living in it... even if it does cost 1.5k more than my loan aha (but it does include a TV and a licence, which is always a great thing!) Just make sure to get a part-time job when you're here though and it should be no big deal.
The houses have too many people in them. If you're prepared to share with 11 other people, then go ahead. With so many people comes clashing and arguments. I have encountered some catty people. The house will never be clean/stay clean due to the number of people sharing one small kitchen. There's not enough kitchen cupboard or fridge freezer space for the amount of people. Rental agreements were constantly being fringed by other members of the household. If you like a very vibrant and active social life, then go ahead. But I found that strangers were brought in to the house almost every night (which housemates MUST ask other housemates' permission to do so - I was never asked) which made me uncomfortable. And the noise level was unbearable. If you're lucky enough to be housed with the loveliest people in the world, go ahead, but you may not be that lucky. If you're looking for the ultimate fresher experience of drinking, hangovers, dirty living space, then be my guest...
Amazing room size and luxuriously large kitchens in the flats (block A). Love the double bed and ensuite. Wish there were lifts, as walking up 6 flights of stairs with loads of shopping isn't fun! Was messed around loads at the beginning of the year and were put up in temporary accommodation. Living on a building site has been difficult plus without the hub being open (which will host washing machines, computers and food outlets) the experience hasn't been as good as I would of hoped. 4 washing machines between 400 people is not ideal. Hopefully after the construction is finished and the hub is open it will be an amazing accommodation for future students. (wish it was the case for me!!!)
The Hub hasn't been opened yet and we have no information about it; which contains our washing machines and study hubs. Cleaner never really cleans our bathrooms properly. Does his best on a small time limit though. Social aspect is ok as we are right on campus and you can't argue with how big the rooms are/kitchen (which means you'll always host people's birthdays and parties etc). Hopefully it will be better managed next year as this is only the first year.
it was amazing living in Turing but they barely ever come to clean it
our hall was not built so I can not give a rating for that. The kitchen/common room is okay but I do not like socialising in a kitchen too often, also our heater would not turn off so that made the kitchen very hot! Although it is a very nice accommodation, it's like living in a hotel.
Wasn't done on time so it kind of ruined the entire experience.
