Most helpful review

It costs students north of 230 per week to live in Tyler B, and for what the accommodation offers, its not great value for money. However, considering what other University accommodation offers, I'd say its alright. Rooms are clean, social spaces are very well maintained, and floors are clean too. Close proximity to laundry room.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I’ve enjoyed this side of campus for the last few years. However I just strongly believe there should be no wet rooms and proper showers only. For many reasons but specifically being the fact that it causes ‘silverfish’ considering how expensive accommodation has gotten and was anyway, It’s not acceptable to be having any insect problem where you’re staying.

The room is okay nothing special I don't feel as if I'm getting my full rent value. I have had several issues with my room already such as the flush not working or the chair being flimsy , which i reported almost a month ago and there were bugs in my light. The kitchen can get very smelly depending on your flat mates. But overall I will give it a 6/10

I wish you best if you’re staying at Tyler Court A, the rooms are very small - so it can be quite claustrophobic. Social wise, it’s hard to socialise because the kitchens are tiny and there’s no actual social spaces.

The rooms in Tyler court are pretty tidy. Big beds and plenty of space. You've also got plenty of cupboards etc to fit your stuff around. At the moment I live in a house but much preferred my room in Tyler court. The kitchen is also quite spacious and a good place to socialise in

I had the best time in Tyler court! It’s in a great place - easy to get to everything and all my flat mates were amazing. Having a en suite and a double bed was exactly what I needed, it was great to have my own space. The kitchen area was of a great size and a really good place to socialise with the rest of the flat

Typical poor quality, overpriced student accommodation. I was put in block A, which is much older and less luxurious than the other two more modern blocks. Not worth £6,400! Unlike in the other two blocks, the beds are single with notoriously uncomfortable, poorly sprung mattresses, with many people having to buy mattress toppers so they can't feel the springs. The en suite is just a small wet room type thing (and not the luxurious kind!). The kitchen shared between eight people is pretty small, the table is stupidly high up with no chairs only stools which are pretty uncomfortable to sit on. The cleaners are absolute dragons who seem to spend more time whinging, making threats and bossing about students and confiscating their bathroom bleach than they do actually cleaning. The one redeeming feature about TC was it's convenient location as it is near to the Cinema where most of my lectures are held, as well as a shortcut for walking into the city centre.

The rooms in Tyler B are a really good size and the kitchen is lush. However the "ensuites" are basically just a walk in shower and often the water will spill out under the door and make the carpet wet. Also the heat detectors are quite sensitive which can be incredibly annoying. But overall Tyler court is definitely one of the best places to live on campus.

I live in Tyler Court C and thought I'd be disappointed because my first choice was Turing, but it is just as nice! It's great to have a double bed and en suite, especially as I happened to be put with 6 guys. The kitchen is lovely and modern, however there are only 5 stools for 8 people which is annoying, and a corner sofa which isn't very sociable. My flat is on the bottom floor so the big windows have views of the woodland outside which is nice. This halls is the best should you want to walk into town or to the train station frequently as it only takes about 15/20 minutes and it's also very close to most lecture theatres and about 7 minutes from venue, so a great location. It's also not too loud as we're set off down a hill from central campus so there are rarely drunk people wandering about and banging on Windows which my friend at Keynes has experienced. All in all, it's a fab halls if you're willing to spend £6k on it (my student loan didn't nearly cover it but it was worth it)

Tyler court B is really nice and modern. The rooms are spacious and have a lot of storage space and it has a double bed. The layout of the rooms look like a hotel which is really nice. Also the kitchen is very well eauipped with 2 stoves and 2 ovens and 2 sinks. However the seating area and couches in the kitchen are rather uncomfortable and not very comfy.

Tyler court A was a great place to live in my first year. It's such a sociable halls, it'd be impossible for you not to make friends- who ever you are! The only bad side is the lack of space to socialise. We don't have a communal/ common area, so the only place to socialise were in the kitchens and they were quite small.

Good place to socialise if you want to, but there's not communial space aside from the study area. This is nice because it means when you need to concentrate for your work you can, and when you want to party you can easily go out to Origins or Venue etc.

En suite was perfect for my needs, and the room although small had the correct amount of storage so surprisingly everything fitted. Only thing that I would have to say is the social area is poor as we only have a small ish kitchen with horrible high stools and a tiny sofa. But that's tyler court A- apparently B and C are better.

It is expensive , the location Is good as it is near most things as well as being close to bus stop meaning you can get into town easily. the cleaning in the communal area is done on a weakly basis and is done well how ever it never stays clean so you would have to clean it again yourselves. I Was on the first floor in a small section of the corridor with only five people which is good if you like quite and the social experience isn't your main priority however for me going out and being able to have party is a important part of the university experience however the other parts of the building are longer corridors meaning you can socialise better I think it would be beneficial if they did a questionnaire at the begin to try and house you with people with similar interests especially when it comes to social life and parties. Overall I have been happy with the accommodation

As nice as this modernly refurbished halls is, the cost of it is extortionate and out ways all good things about it. Hall management is basically non existent, unless you're deemed to be making too much noise, for instance I had water coming through my fire alarm, yes water through an electrical device, and yet they could do nothing?!?! And finally, my biggest gripe of them all is the particular corridor I am placed on. What you should be aware of is, at Kent they place you with whoever they feel like. So for my first year it was greatly ruined by two of my flat mates, who for their own reasons will be living here for the rest of their time at uni.. One of whom is a very noisy drama student who only likes girls and the sound of his own voice, any noise made by you will be instantly reported to campus watch, but in his words you are to desensitise yourself from his noise. If you are given a room ranging from 105-109 then quickly ring and ask to change!!!!!!!!
