Amazing campus, such a vibrant city and overall great uni.
The uni is great but the wifi is just like all my acquaintances, lasts no more than a few minutes.
There are many opportunities, good accommodation, very nice place to be. Also even though it's a city uni, everything is close together which gives it a somewhat campus feel.
Itense work but a good laugh. Don’t make the mistake of not joining any societies or sports like I did because you will end up with no mates lol
Amazing, fantastic, mind blowing!
Best choice in University, love the community feel I get here and the nightlife and city is amazing
Excellent university!! I actually cannot imagine myself going to a different one!!! The only reason 4 star for facilities is the 1st year accommodation is a mile away
This is a great university in the north of England.
very good univeristy and i would recommend it to all
Perfect. One of the best 100 universities in the world
good place to study and make friends
Some departments are better than others
Alright uni but i get the feeling that if you dont do ket or like drum&bass you'll never truly belong
Close to Sheffield city center
Probably the worst 6 months of my life were spent at this uni. Accomodation was sterile and desperately lonely. Course was academically competent but isolated. I found myself unable to establish a decent friendship groups given lectures of 200+ students and seminars with different people everytime. Support I got from the SU and other university facilities was blunt and largely unhelpful. Nightlife here, though plentiful, is horrendously overrated and outside of the university faciliites the city depressing at best. Avoid.
Some degrees make more use of the facilities than others, so can't really comment on how good they are but the Wifi seems strong no matter where you are
I'm a current undergrad student who was excited to look into Sheffiled for graduate opportunities. I sent a list of questions to the admission coordinators and not only did I not get answers from one, although they attempted to schedule a skype call (which was rescheduled), as my list was "huge", but they continued to send surprisingly unprofessional emails or not getting back to me claiming that answering my email wouldn't be "logical". I am understanding that my inquiries may have been exhaustive and that they are very busy but I reached out to multiple universities and never had as much issue. I was made to feel that my inquiries were not important which is surprising considering you'd think they'd want international students. For anyone concerned, the department in question was the Urban Studies and Planning school.
BY FAR THE BEST STUDENTS' UNION IN THE UK
Sheffield uni is an amazingly friendly environment with lots of exciting things to get involved in and great academic and social support
Everyone is so lovely and the facilities are amazing!! The uni as a whole is super super good and the city is perfect for a student...did anybody say £5 round???
Best campus but needs faster internet.
Awesome uni, love every minute of it
Everyone should consider Sheffield, it's been a great place to be a student
Great university, best place to be!
A university bursting with culture, diversity and community spirit, best Uni ever!
Amazing support from staff. They help you with you CV amd keep you up to date with all the new opportunities. The SU is incredible ,so many soxities and organizmsation to join in order to learn nee things and meet new people
Poor teaching quality (Archaeology department). Sub-par pastoral care. Abysmal resources (Archaeology department). Hostile student population that can, and have gotten violent. Riddled with strikes and other disruptive events.
Really good place to study and live
Very inclusive and had some of my favourite first year memories at the union club nights
Fantastic Facilities, brilliant staff.
Sheffield University is one of the best unis in the UK, they offer great courses and also care about student welfare as much as education
A lovely environment with friendly, helpful staff
Great first year. Really good student experience
Very welcoming university with great people and groundbreaking research!
Very good uni with amazing facilities
Great time, great place, great people
Amazing university with an fabulous range if facilities and societies that are supported by the students uniin. Overall an amazing place to study
Can’t complain everything I could ever want is here and if I don’t think it is I send out an email and I am given a close replacement!
Where great research, great experiences and an excellent location combine with knowledgeable and compassionate staff to bring an overall fantastic experience.
Fantastic environment. Perfect for anyone looking to grow up and become truly independent.
I’ve just graduated and I’m gutted to be leaving sheff! Absolute best 3 years in the best uni city!
Everything about my university is great apart from my actual course. I found Japanese Studies to be quite a nightmare and that only the strong seem to survive in the East Asian Studies Department. I’ve requested to change course to Korean next year, and if I want to survive, I guess I’ll have to become a workaholic.
I would recommend going to Sheffield University to anyone. It's where I have the good balance of an excellent academic life woth inspirational lecturers to get smashed at the weekends and having a laugh at the pub. I love the city and love the uni! I will forever look back on my years as the best years of my life
Great school factolies are good Eli
Great school factolies are good Eli
Very glad to go to Uni of Sheffield
In a great city with a lot of choice of social activities and fantastic teaching
Best university ever a Russell group in a city that literally caters for all individual music tastes.
An excellent university with amazing facilities and friendly staff
Good. SU is the best in the country, city is friendly and the nightlife is fantastic.
Atmosphere is relaxed and fun, students union is right to claim to be the best, society's range from elitist and inaccessible to so relaxed they barely do anything
Really, really bad if you're disabled and/or LGBT+. Not only are many of the staff LGBT+ phobic, but they are against "excuses" in regards to disability. There are very few policies that allow disabled students to have kind of alternate learning. Many university buildings are not accessible. The university health service has consistently neglected my disability despite me making appointments each month to ask for help. I would not recommend this university to anyone.
Never come to this university for Phd and Masters. I Have suffered so much and dropped out in PhD. It was my mistake to trust them when was not happy in masters. Low quality of teaching in masters and not trust in PhD supervisors. Overall it has got a sick academic and staff environment. It has got amazing Student Union but my main aim was the quality of my degree not clubs and etc. then there is no point to rank them. Many PhDs have suffered so far with a poor relationship with their supervisors in this university. so many trustworthy supervisors are leaving the university as well. Be very careful. Just teens and bachelors with native languages are happy.
Well my cousin was here for work and lets just say that they are very disorganized. He now wants to share his experience.
Extremely well organised and accommodating university with very fair and flexible administration. Top quality teaching and graduate opportunities with links to industry leading companies. The best disability services of any university.
Awesome place, people and excellent Wifi and Great feel all round. Don't miss the Tuesday club!
One of the best Unions in the country with so much going on. Great facilities including media rooms, cafes, labs, WiFi, new study spaces.
tuesday club is a fun night out library is good but not enough seats
Speak to almost any University of Sheffield student (both past and current) and they will tell you that Sheffield is the perfect place to be a student, and that Sheffield University is a great university (good resources/teaching/reputation). However, I write from the perspective of a graduate who went to the university having attended an international school in Brussels, and being of half Italian descent. My personal experience of Sheffield was dreadful. I found the students to be very insular/English in nature, not accommodating at all to those of us who had grown up in other non-British contexts. I would say the majority of students there (however bright and successful on an academic level) where culturally typically 'British' and knew nothing outside of Middle/provincial England. The type of attitude which views anything across the Channel as being 'foreign' and therefore inferior. I would urge anyone from my background NOT to choose this uni.
Wasn’t even my first choice uni but wouldn’t change coming here for the world!! Amazing facilities and perfect location on the edge of Sheffield City Centre. Loads of support given by staff too.
Offers an amazing sense of community where you can take part in Residence life sport activities and social events.
Good library service: 4 libraries on campus and online resources are great (most of the books can be read online)
It was really good i love sheffield, especially sheffield 3 accommodation
Most buildings are located ideally and not too far away from one another. The union provides a good place to hang around during breaks or in between classes with good food and good environment
A uni with many social and curricular activities provided!
Amazing teaching and learning environment with an ultramodern engineering building! Couldn't have chosen a better place to study!
Friendly, Peace and Calm environment.
Students' Union is too militant, but campus is nice in the city and everything else is great.
Very nice Students Union, a wide array of societies to join and a lot of facilities ready to be put to use. Eduroam is awful though.
Everything except the course is fine. As an MA student and experiencing then uni for the first time, I had high expectations. I have received little help from a tutor who EMAILED me to tell me to change classes even though the other MA students had the same grades as me. I was then told in my second semester a module I had been allowed to take was actually not permitted, so my timetable clashes could not be altered and if I wished to continue the module, I would have to miss the main of the two classes and basically teach myself. Compared to my much smaller, nowhere near as highly acclaimed former university, I have found my overall studying experience very dissapointing and stressful.
Had a really bad experience and haven't enjoyed my time
I am doing a masters course here and hate it! Buildings are miserable, cold and unwelcoming.. teachers are rude and I struggle to understand their English... Everything (including tuition) is overpriced.... There are not enough facilities for the number of students (in class/labs/computers in library)... The location is dismal... and to top it all off, the course material is useless unless you want to work within the university after (it only teaches things specific to the universities specialisms, at least in science).
Brilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Great University! The staff is great!
Firstly - so many interesting societies! Also I think possibly the best Union nights out of any uni? Make sure you look beyond Plug and Pop Tarts and you'll see that Sheffield nightlife is actually pretty damn good. Ah, and who could forget the sustainability library? Once you start looking, you realise there is so much to explore here.
Wonderful place to read and educate with superior teaching staff
I have loved everything about the University of Sheffield so far. I can't explain what it is that makes it such an enjoyable experience, but I don't wake up dreading the idea of University the way I did with college or high school. I feel like there is always something to do and it is always done with the students in mind. It feels like a community who are all happy to be here and are enjoying themselves.
Great extra services available from 301 for academic skills.
Internet could be improved around student accomodation
I'm really impressed with the high standards of the University of Sheffield. The library facilities are just amazing and I have a great time in some of the societies. The Union is really good as well. Strongly reccomend
Absolutely great, wifi in the rooms isint great though
Woo, you have the time of your life, and it's beautiful.
The union is great! It has such a variety of things to do, clubs to join, sports to play and paces to eat and socialise!
Loved being at this uni, nothing really negative I can say about it
Has been a relatively OK experience so far
Absolutely quality - couldnt see myself anywhere else
the most amazing experience I have ever lived. Everyone is helpful, friendly and polite. You can find anything you want from sports and activities to societies and clubbing.
Amazing Uni, amazing city, amazing people.
Currently having the best freshers experience here, the city feels very safe and is very easy to get around cheaply.
Had the absolute best time ever. Endcliffe village is an amazing place to live.
Amazing university, amazing place to be, Sheffield is incredible! The SU is the best, the city campus is easy to navigate around and the city is incredible
Large variety of societies and activities to participate in
Amazing city, amazing union and societies
Many memories made facilities all very good especially student union and endcliffe living accomodation. Very good uuniersity and city
Best place, amazing city,great facilities
Plenty of modern, well equipped facilities
Internet is quick but unreliable
The union is a happy place you can go to, to drink copious amounts of beverages
WiFi in any uni building, top up to date facilities, loads of societies with great people in them and a union packed with features that hosts regular top nights out. Careers service is a bit meh, but only a small negative
Sheffield is the best, and there's no argument that any university can make against it that will be true. No other words to put it other than that
