All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Great quality service! The staff are all kind, sincere and genuinely helpful.
Ravenscourt House is a lovely accommodation to welcome students to London. Centrally located in Hammersmith, Ravenscourt House provides a well-rounded experience for students moving to the city. The rooms are spacious and new, the social spaces are great for studying and relaxation and the staff is incredibly helpful- making settling in a new city a seamless experience. Ravenscourt House has also been a great place to engage in online learning during Covid.
I've been at Ravenscourt for 3 years and the staff and team have been nothing but understanding and caring of all the students who stay there. The location is great as it's in the hub of West London with a lot of places to eat nearby and shop. The building is always clean and organized and social spaces are modern and comfy. It's a great place to make friends as the community and culture of Ravenscourt house is very inviting. Seasonal events here are great and everyone is involved, so it feels like being a part of one big family! Highly reccomend. - Wali
The overall experience was a big mix of good and bad really. Good: -Marianna (and most but not all the people) in reception are very nice people, easy to talk to and to sort things out with. -Parcel collection is easy because reception takes it in Bad: -The accommodation spaces are "decorated" to look good to reflect the price we pay but the furniture themselves are very low quality -Kitchen ventilation doesn't work. And to no surprise I accidentally set off the fire alarm while cooking for that very reason and had to pay Ravenscourt House 50 Pounds for that (which could be argued wasn't even my fault). -Loads of fees. I moved into a semi clean room. I left it at the exact same state with MAYBE 1-2 cardboard boxes I left on the floor on accident? I had to pay 105 pounds for them deep clean the whole room and replace the mattress cover because I "stained" it. trust me, those mattress covers are already stained and are never replaced -My bike got stolen from inside the accommodation.
Beautiful accommodation!
A great place with all necessities. Great facilities to rewind after getting back from University. Location is just perfect. Situated a bit away from central London, in around a quieter residential area, but with 2 tube lines running, city centre can be reached in mere minutes. Helpful staff, always there to solve any issues or to answer any questions. And an affordable price range to choose from. Overall just a great and a lovely place to stay.

The location is perfect. A bit away from the busy crowded central London yet still connected to the central. It’s in the residential area so it’s safe and quiet enough to make you feel home instead of dorm. Staff on site are friendly and attentive. The common area are new and perfectly in shape. Would recommend to everyone who’s finding a decent accommodation in zone 2
I would absolutely recommend this accommodation to every students. All staffs are friendly and helpful. Perfect location and only 4-5 minute walk from the train station. The rooms and facilities were amazing, clean and new.
