All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The location is pretty close to UCL(only 5 mins on walk), and the facilities in kitchen are good as well.
It is such a Wonderful place. I highly recommend students who study at UCL live here. Also, the staff Zoe is very friendly.
Thank you for your review. We hope you continue to enjoy your stay :)
Janet Poole House is a great choice for accommodation. It's extremely close to UCL, just 2 min to walk. Excellent maintenance of furnitures are also offered.
Coming from up North to study in London I was really excited , however I was slightly concerned with regards to finding suitable accommodation. My concerns were put to rest by the landlord and the smooth process of exchange. Janet Poole House is located a stones throw away from some of the most prestigious universities in London. The facilities are modern and clean, centrally located, everything one could ask for and more. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Janet Poole House at all.
Very satisfied on the whole. First of all, in terms of location, the apartment is very close to UNIVERSITY College London. Secondly, I am also satisfied with the size of the room and facilities. In addition to the hardware facilities, the services in the apartment are very good. The staff did their best to give us timely help. For example they help us print materials and provide any stuff we want if they have.
Janet Poole house is a very comfortable place to live. It has fantastic location which is just 5 minutes walk to UCL and you can easily get access to various shops. What’s more, the facilities here are very convenient, the rubbish bag were supplied on time and there some snacks for free everyday. I really enjoyed staying here!
Janet Poole house is very nice. CLean and neat, calm and peaceful location.
It is quite good!Very close to ucl and many supermarkets!People here are nice too!!!
I couldn’t rate this accommodation any higher. Location wise you couldn’t ask for more, close to uni but also ideally located for commuting across London to see the sites of the city. The site team have been lovely every time I see them and couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming. Don’t think about living here. Just book and experience it for yourself.
Although this is a old building it is very beautiful. staff are excellent and very helpful since the changes made in management last year. UCL opposite the accomodation and the area is very good for travelling in London.
It's very convenient to live here. UCL main campous is on the same street. Due to the COVID-19, not many people live here, so it's very silent but lonely. I live with my roomate in a twins studio. Enough space and feel well though we couldn't go out as usual. Receptionist is very kind and helpful. An old house but facilities are new.
Briefly main points Value for money: we paid 770 per week for 2 people and I believe that you can find a much more decent choice. Location: location is really great, especially if you study at UCL. 1-10 min to the campuses and location in central London has many advantages. Property management: cant say that evth was alright. Upon arrival we saw several issues (no cold water, broken hob, not closing windows (was starting to getting cold before winter) and some others). Briefly, how they were solved: hot water- we got it in mid-January (settled in on 20 of September). Even then the boiler was leaking and it should have been turned off for the night (or water would get insanely hot) Not closing windows- was solved quite quickly (1-2 months) as it was getting colder before winter. Hob- wasn't repaired at all. I'm getting out of crctrs. Other aspects were quite ok. Regarding the pandemic, we were told that no money would be returned at all. Would I recommend you to stay here- NO.
Hi everyone, I lived in a double room on the first floor in Janet poole house and here is my quick review. Overall, value for money is okay, but think it is a little bit overpriced. The location is perfect, it is just in front of UCL, so even in the furthest campuses you can get in 5-10 min. As well there are plenty of restaurants nearby, so it was cool. Wifi was great and social areas look great too, but wasnt using them by myself. The greatest problem is with the Property management and small requirements required. TV, hood werent working and we didnt get them on till the end of the stay. The boiler and the hot water got after 4 months. Windows weren't closing, so got them after 2 months. Overall, wasnt that bad and great location compensate everything. Good luck
