All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The overall impression is positive, as the front desk staff is very friendly and the location is excellent. However, the equipment does appear to be somewhat outdated.
Hi, Thank you for the kind review. We agree that our location is great, being only a 3 minute walk from town and the closest university is just a 10 minute walk away :) We are striving to improve the buildings facilities all the time so we appreciate the feedback! All the best, ED Team
I move to Emily from Austen! Actually I don’t like commend everything, but when I see the score of Emily is lower than Austen I think I must help Emily! So what I wanna say is Emily is good!

Hi, Thank you for your nice review. We are glad we could be of help while you're living here. I will pass these kind words to our maintenance man. All the best, ED Team
The cost is valuable and reasonable for all non-ensuite rooms. The location is brilliant as it sits right at the coty centre and incredibly convenience for frequent trains/coach riders. However, the management in the hall is extremely poor especially it is in company transition. The washing machines and dryers are always broken even they are free to use. This situation gets worse when the company is transferred as no one is aiming to fix them and keep putting fixing labels on those broken machines. As well as the security, there are no night guard for security after the company is transferred and reception only works 9-5 that only emergency call is available. If you are focusing on locations and cost, this would be the best hall as the location is super convenient and cheap. But if you are looking for a quiet, safe and quick maintenance hall, I strongly not recommend this hall as their response will take a decade to reply and will literally **** you off even you reported it.
i think it is very good and nearby the coach and train and some supermarket, such as asda, and we can use the washing machine for free, it is very convenient
Every staff is kind and helpful.
Wonderful experience! All the staffs are so nice !
very nice officers, even you buy buy quite a lot of things they can still deal with it safely. Very enthusiastic and humorous.
Very good place with nice reception and friendly neighborhoods.
awesome place with great friendly staff members who are happy to help with anything you ask
Hello students - Halls of residence - Southampton(SO15 2PU) is a useless place to live. Never consider taking this accommodation. I moved in here in OCT 2021. From day 1 lift is not working properly. Recently for the past 10 days stopped completely and they shut down it. If I enquire about it from the beginning same answer parts are coming from China. They are saying the same story from October. Another answer they gave lift is not mandatory it seems for 5-floor building, they are providing lift facility mainly to carry your heavy packages and in the young ages, you should not use lift. Then laundry is free but useless. If you want to wash your clothes it will take half of your day. To dry it will consume a minimum of 2.5 hours. Washing another 1 hour, so think 4 hours we have to spend for washing. This is the worst washing machine I saw in my life. Always dryer will not work due to some heating problem. If you enquire about that management will say try use 1 or 2 kgs of cloths for dry
Absolutely the worst place to come to live. There are places for students that are much cheaper and have better living conditions, facilities and overall experience (Kimber for example) The location may be great, but this is genuinely the worst academic year of my life living here. Awful neighbors, machines that constantly break down, poor communicative services with the maintenance and general house keeping team Honestly, just go somewhere else (anywhere else is better), and I really do hope they stop using this place as a student hall by next year
Appalling. Unclean. Unorganised. Bad management. Always having issues. Never resolved every. Worst year of my life.
Really small and good hall feels like you are at home.
Showers are cold and keeps breaking, the walls are thin and so many people here seem to ignore the fact that some students need sleep and don’t want to hear other people’s overly loud music and talking at stupid times of the night, cleaners will b**** at you for making the slightest mess in the kitchen and the reception were awful over Christmas. I couldn’t even get some parcels about 3 days before Christmas so some people didn’t get their presents! Good value for money I suppose, but the place is pretty crap! I don’t know if they’ve let it slip because its being disused by next year or what?
Cleaners are useless, showers are ice cold, every kitchen and bathroom has a silverfish infestation, laundry machines aren't looked after or cleaned and ruin your clothes. Tacky decor.
The wifi here is terrible and the common room is tiny. Apart from there not bad
Best possible location as its right in the middle of everything but very basic and quite dear.
Tiny Common Room/kitchens/laundry. Not designed to be a halls
Very boring, at least the showers are warm
Emily Davies may be looked at as a place where losers go to live, but I feel that this is a misrepresentation of us. ED is socialable, fun and in much better condition than most of the halls. ED 4EVA <3
