LFW is a fantastic Student Accommodation facility. Located in the centre of Southampton, it is ideally placed for those undertaking courses at Solent University and is well situated on transport routes for the University of Southampton's Highfield and Avenue campuses. The flats are spacious and well equipped, boasting generous individual rooms and a compliment of shared facilities. I was especially impressed by the provision of two allocated cupboards per room within the kitchen space, offering sufficient storage for utensils and ingredients alike. Where Lucia Foster Welch really excels, however, is in the customer service and support offered on site. Lizzie is especially helpful, always willing to provide assistance with a professional and friendly demeanour that made it appear that no issue was too small for her to resolve.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

For cadets it’s overpriced but I understand why
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate that this year has been more difficult for Maritime Cadets. We understand that short term flexible contracts are often not available in most student accommodation and we try our best to offer appropriate contracts where possible. Even with the increases in utility prices and other costs we are still amongst the most affordable in the city. If you have any further feedback or suggestions for improvement, please do email us or come into reception to chat to our friendly Customer Service Team. Kind regards Lizy

"Thank you Elizabeth and LFW staff for a wonderful stay at Erickson ! The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and clean facilities made my short visit exceptionally pleasant. I appreciate the hospitality and look forward to returning in the future."
Really good wifi, great socks experience (always a party somewhere) and the kitchens are cleaned and bins emptied once per week by staff! However, though it is close to clubs, it is far from campus and you don’t get the free bus pass.
Reception are always lovely, rooms are good size for the money. Silverfish in erikson block need to be resolved though
The experience was good, but that came down to a bit of luck. I have had amazing flatmates, which cleaned after themselves kept the kitchen tidy. As I have visited different flats the kitchens were very unclean, not to be confused with the cleaners not cleaning, it was the students not having any discipline. Another problem faced was winter and summer in the winter the room was freezing and had to constantly turn on heating, but because it was an “eco” unit it would turn off quickly while leaving the room still cold, summers are very hot due to the window only being allowed to be opened on micro setting. As this is a safety concern this can be overlooked. As long as winter cold can be brushed away these apartments offer phenomenal value for money with security, sent packages are always safe and the reception staff being friendly and always with a smile.
There is a lot of students here of my age and that's great, although some make a lot of noise at night while other are trying to sleep and the price per week it's a bit to much in my opinion, in terms of management they l are doing well enough but some may agree that they could always do better
Lucia Foster Welch is ana amazing accommodation with good facilities.
The experience has been pleasant so far so good They attend to requests as soon as possible. And get things fixed as soon as possible The cleaning staff does and exceptional job every time And the staff at the reception office is always courteous.
My experience of Lucia Foster welch was a pleasant one. The rooms are one of the most affordable in the whole of Southampton and offer good value for money. The staff are very helpful if there is ever an issue. There is a common room with study rooms and a very large roofed car park. Many thanks, Soydan.
The place itself is very well located. It has a good transport link to City Center and to my current work which is Southampton General Hospital as I am currently a Nurse on training. The outdoor Area is always kept clean, as well as the indoors since they provide a free weekly cleaner on communal areas. It has also a very good security system. Definitely a 5 stars for me. 👍
Great value for money and comfortable bed, cleaners do a great job too and staff and very kind and understanding!
Very friendly and helpful staff that are approachable and willing to resolve any issues. I had an issue with contract length that was sorted quickly and I had problem with my room that was also resolved quickly.
One of the first place where I stayed In 🇬🇧 UK when I come to this country, it’s a excellent and very good to the students, I would 100%recommend this place to my colleagues to live in, very nice and big parking car parking space and bike parking space, all the room are done beautifully for a comfort stay and kitchen and washroom/toilets are is a fantastic condition and cleaned every day. Best reception team and wonderful security team Hope u all will like this place to stay
Nice buildings and rooms that have all you need as a student. WiFi is really good and offers fast speeds. While the distance to the university is a bit far, there are lots of nearby stores and social areas to make up for it.
A few points for improvements: - There's a draft in the flats when it's windy. - Heating could be better.
Nice comfortable space to live and experience the southampton culture.
I love the accommodation as it is great value for money and you can easily get to the university with the bus
This accommodation is the best. I had an issue with my rent and they helped me set up a payment plan that fit my budget. That was huge for me and I appreciate the assistance. I wish to stay here till the end of my program. Thank you Lucia Foster
great staff, very helpful and always get things sorted on time,
Really good accommodation services, whenever we’ve had issues with appliances they’ve always sorted them out promptly. Very secure too with good security 24/7. Definitely enjoying my stay
Very chapter is the university and very good communication
It's good accommodation lively and privacy loved this residency
Have cleaners, theres a constant weird smell but security is lovely and is like a big family everyone i live with
It’s in a nice area, right next to Ocean Village
Although it’s far for students studying at the Uni of Southampton, the location of the halls is in a very pretty area of Southampton as it’s quite near the harbour.
Lucia Foster Welch is a great accommodation. The location is amazing, especially with my course being mainly at the docks, but for others too as it is an easy 15 minute walk to West Quay. The WiFi is on point and cleaning service is great.
excellent value for money and nice big rooms with 3/4 bed which is hard to find for accommodation however bit of a walk to the uni link bus stop for Uni of Southampton students
It has been so amazing, it is home away from home
Lucia Foster Welch is a pretty averagr residence.
The accommodation has friendly staff and they are easy to approach in time you will need assistance on anything.
It is really good. I live here happily. I can take a good rest and focus on my study. Moreover, the staff and flatmates here are very friendly. We get along very well.
Lovely place to stay, friendly staff. Cleaning although very sufficient could be a little slow at times, resulting in garbage piling up before it is removed.
Above all the staff at reception are lovely, friendly, great sense of humour and helpful when you need it most. We had trouble moving into our flat when we first moved and they made the effort to get all friends into the same flat. Bloody big thumbs up 👍🤌
Reception staff are always very helpful and approachable.
What should I say? That's my third year in Southampton as a student and Lucia Foster Welch is contributing to make it unique. The staff are incredibly helpful, polite and willing to help at all times. Whenever my flatmates and I had an issue, their answer was immediate and efficient. The location is undoubtedly the best place you would want to stay in Southampton, I love the area so much!! The closeness to the harbour and any public venue makes the spot worth. The value for money is great, I would dare to say no other place in Southampton offers as much comforts and services with such limited costs.
Lucia foster welch is a great choice for students !! Totally worth it !!
Lucia is by far the best accommodation on a budget, each flat has 10 rooms 3 bathrooms and 3 showers as well as a fully furnished kitchen. The location for Southampton students is the only downside with it being at least a 30 minute bus ride from highfield campus.
Very quiet building, I heard other buildings are loud or have some form of noise. Very cheep, kitchen quite larger then I expected. The hot tap in my opinion too hot, feels like water being poured at 100°C. Very good accommodation for the rent you have to pay.
Amazing Facilities, polite customer service from staff.
Lucia Foster Welch is great value for money and has provided me with a comfortable stay whilst studying at the university of Southampton. The rooms are comfortable and well heated and the kitchen sides corridor and toilets are cleaned regularly and well. Your experience will depend on who you are staying with and how clean they are but the same can be said for all accommodations. The transport to Southampton Uni is easily accessible by Unilink bus services and most of your social life will probably happen through Uni. All in all 8/10
It’s a good experience living in the student accommodation because I have so much comfort and good communication with my flatmates

I have been very happy with my living in this accommodation for the past academic year. The only problems I have encountered were related to the cleaning staff not doing their job properly.

Great value for money this year. Constantly cleaned and frequent work being done. Needs cleaner and clearer social spaces with tvs that work and chalk for the pool table. Would also be nice to have sky/bt sport on the television in the social space. I know many including myself would also like to be given notice earlier in advance for when builders, maintenance and cleaners are entering the flats. Once I was sent an email around 1am the day before to inform us that work would be carried out in our flat. Staff are all really friendly and respectful.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we really appreciate your feedback. At Every Student excellent service is really important to us and we will be sure to take on board your suggestions. Our dedicated team is always available to assist our residents wherever possible and our reception is open 24 hours a day should you need to come and speak to us. Thank you again for your feedback.

I found Lucia Foster Welch when looking for a cheaper alternative to the accommodation Uni of Southampton offered, as well as accommodation with parking on site. I have had no issues with my stay so far and would recommend Lucia to anyone

I've lived at 3 different accommodations at uni and my time at LFW was by far the best. They are one of the few student accommodations listen to the students requests and feedback and act on them. If you're looking to have fun and meet some good and different people at an affordable , LFW is the place for you!
Hi and thank you for your review. We’re so pleased to hear that you have had such a great experience living with us. We always welcome feedback from our students so that we can ensure we provide the best possible support and services. Thank you again
I've thoroughly enjoyed my stay here at LFW, all the staff and security are very accommodating. The rooms have been recently refurbished and they are of a very good spec. I'll be returning next academic year.
Thank you for your review and we are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay. Our staff work hard to ensure they make your stay enjoyable. We are also glad to hear you booked to stay another year with us and are pleased with the improvements we made to Lucia Foster Welch Thanks again
Great place to live and in a good location. Great value for money.
My stay in LFW has been Amazing. I met a lot of wonderful people here and staff been more than helpful. Now that flats are undergoing major upgrades, I cant wait to see my brand new room when I'm back in September.
Weak walls you can easily hear your flatmates talking, whenever someone goes out late night if they don't hold the door it wakes you up. very noisy residence. baths water cold sometimes. you can't have a proper sleep here (unless all your flatmates are caring which is very unlikely). Definitely doesn't worth the amount paid. If you have other options, go for them.
Best of the best and that's that !
nightmarish, disgusting halls, awful people. Crack pots everywhere, bullying, not to mention very unsafe. Staff couldn't care less.
Excellent and affordable place to stay.
Lucia is by far the worst halls I’ve ever stayed in, if it wasn’t for the people I live with here, I would of moved to another halls in an instant
Not the best, but met some good people there
Sometimes dirt but had the best memories here
Disgusting cess pit, no birds and cleaners steal
Halls are adequate and great social spaces
Alright. But for the price you pay you could live somewhere closer to uni and with an en suite. But is very ideal for lively first years who like to party.
Great environment, only 20 mins from uni
Really good and sociable halls, and you feel very safe there. Only downside is it’s distance from the university.
Lucia was ok.... very expensive for what was provided
Fantastic friends made at halls very far from the university
I did try and write a detailed report regarding Lucia Foster Welch accommodation unfortunately there’s a character limit therefore I will just briefly summarise; • expensive • kitchens are dreadful, not enough fridge space, ovens and hobs are ancient. • can’t change temperature in showers • loud/ noisy due to cheap door closers and traffic. • rooms are small • internet is dreadful. • they treat you like children by seeing if you are doing the washing up. • heating when working is on a timer. • mattresses are so cheap, it is like sleeping on a piece of wood. I will not recommend this accommodation to anyone, I’ve stayed in Warsash accommodation which is far superior, as you received a dining card, duvet and pillows were included and your rooms were cleaned but unfortunately it is now closed.
I am a Warsash Maritime student and have been staying in Lucia Foster Welch when carrying out my Chief Officer Ticket. I would not recommend these halls to anyone they are a high number of issues. Firstly it being very noisy, you will be next to two main roads therefore all you hear is the traffic and sirens constantly. The rooms are not very sound proof, all their doors seem to slam therefore waking you up. The shower is on push button which I kind of agree as some people may try and take long showers, however you cannot change the temperature!! The hot water has failed on us twice, they have been quick to fix it but still. Regarding the kitchen, there is not enough fridge space for 11 people in the corridor especially mature students as we study all week and do our shopping on the weekend. The hobs you can barely see what temperature they are on as they are so old. The oven is appalling. Unfortunate it will not let me write anymore but I do not recommend this place.
I have just finished living at Lucia Foster Welch and enjoyed my stay. Cleaners did a good job cleaning the flat during week days and I really enjoyed spending Freshers at this halls. You meet a great variety of people so it’s easy to socialise. Only things I would say it would be nice if the common room could be in the same building as the flats as I think it would be used more. Other than that I’ve enjoyed my stay and had little problems. Cleaners can sometimes be loud when coming in in the morning.
It's not the best place to live. Too noisy and too many buildings that just separate the students into groups instead of helping everyone getting to know each other.
The halls weren't very clean...the rooms felt like prison cells.. The corridor was dark. The rooms were poorly ventilated causing damp. If you don't like clubbing and going out at night it's hard to socialise with people... The halls were loud especially when people had been drinking... It felt unsafe to leave my door unlocked when I was in there at night.
Social life is not that great even though it's supposed to be the best for that and a lot of people agree with me, value for money is pretty good though.
Halls are functional, probably not the nicest out of the others but it does the job.
I visited many different student accommodations during my time at Southanpton Solent university and Lucia Foster was by far the best. Being put into flats of 10 gives you the chance to really bond with the people you lived with and 7 of the 9 other people I lived with back in halls i am now living with for the 3rd year.I would suggest choosing halls where you're put into flats. It is also very easy to socialize with other flats if you don't get on with the people you live with. Location is OK, 15 minute walk to uni, bit of a treck to the main nightlife square Bedford place (25 minute walk) but it wasn't the end of the world. We did have a problem with our cleaners during our stay at Lucia Foster where it was found out that they were stealing peoples food and alcohol. But it was quickly sorted out and we were given a ASDA voucher to replace items. There is also no wifi which was a bit of a pain. But internet access to laptops through Ethernet cables. Overall Choose LFW
Lots of good and great. Very little bad and negative true
Definitely got value for money, Couldn't hear much from other flats, compared to other places etc, best year I had and glad it was at LFW only negative was that it was the furthest from uni.
Better than I expected - good living space with great wifi (and Ethernet). Don't use the common room much as I just hang out with people in our flat. The lift in Hudson House is dodgy though, which sucks. Loads of storage space in the small non-en-suit rooms too.
im a mature student (23) and so far its been a bit hectic with partys and drinks (which there is nothing wrong with). Its very social here and everyone is very friendly but if it is a bit party central at the same time. other halls my be better if you want to relax more.
Very nice halls definitely worth the experience
I was here in 2013 and it was a half decent halls, I stayed in Hudson and the social/party life was buzzing, best halls for party's by far!
