I didn't stay in halls as private accommodation so not from personal experience, but my friends halls were great. Go for kimber if you have the choice tho.
Full of great people very friendly environment
s*** mattresses and small kitchens
Accomodation is nice and fairly modern. Kitchens are not very nice as they are too small with no hangout spaces.
I loved staying in Kimber. Although who you get as housemates is pure luck I was very lucky with mine. The halls themselves are well managed and great to be in. The cleaning is good although sometimes they do not clean because it is 'too messy'? The common room is a really nice social room for parties or watching sport, it could do with a couple more bits and pieces but otherwise its great.
The halls are dirty, loud and uncomfortable to live in
Complete rip off, the prices are ridiculous for what it is. The rooms and especially the toilets in the rooms are outdated. Rooms are really small and dark. And got darker over the year because no one washed the windows from outside and at the end of the year they were so dusty! Kitchens are refurbished so they are okay but way too small for 10 people. Location is quite unsafe right next to St Marys, think there were three stabbings there during the year I lived in Kimber.
Great Halls, close to town and uni. Be careful of crime, and the park at night.
Good location for uni but traffic noise is so loud, kitchens are so tiny so struggle for social area other than the common room
Great experience, 5 minute walk to uni and nice rooms. Although can't change the temperature of the showers so mine was boiling hot even after making numerous complaints and them "fixing it" 3 times.
DMA is a lovely place to stay, however, when we arrived, we discovered that our kitchen had no proper ovens - instead, we had table top ovens of which one didn't work. On a side note, after realising that one of these 'ovens' did not function properly, nor the microwave, they were promptly replaced with new ones by the site management. Overall, the rooms and bathrooms are a nice size, storage and shelfing is plentiful, the common room is a tad on the small side (but then we are in the smallest halls) and the kitchens need a bit of work. It has been a good experience overall so far.
I was in David Moxon Annexe for my first year of Uni. The rooms are great the location is also great. The downside was that the cleaners pretty much did nothing and you would be lucky to ever get your post because the hatch (where you collect your post) which was meant to be open for most of the day was pretty much never open!
Great location, a little expensive but that's to be expected. Great people, also.
Not seen the residence manager at all since moving in, cleaning is good. Nice halls to live in.
Really nice halls - I lived in DMA and it was a close-knit family feel. Everyone was friendly and you got to know all of your neighbours. Bonus? You could roll out of bed at 8.50 and still make it to your 9am class on time!
Good halls, Azeem the residence manager is a good laugh but gets things done when they need to be. Only downside here is the cleaners are noisy and rarely clean the kitchen as its 'not clean enough to be cleaned'
I hate this place with a passion. Red kitchen didnt even have a real oven or table OR chairs. Was absolutely terrible and in comparison to my friends at universities such as Loughborough, Bath, UEA, etc. They paid less and seemingly got a greater living space. So again, Solent ripped us all off and made it harder to survive the year financially.
Everyone is really friendly. There is a good sense of community and all of the staff are kind and helpful.
room size is good, en-suite bathrooms are small and not very nice. some kitchens are good, some of them aren't as up to date. In Kimber there is only one common room, which is ok, but no one uses. laundry room is small and busy. cleaners are good but grumpy, management is varied, some staff are nice whereas others are quite horrible.
Completely not worth the money.
